iDOLMASTER Tickets Are Crazy Expensive
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 8:00 PM on July 7, 2008
Fans of Namco's Xbox 360-exclusive, J-pop idol sim THE iDOLM@STER are rich, it seems. Tickets for the iDOLM@STER event "THE iDOLM@STER 3rd Anniversary Live later this month have been going bananas. Auction prices have hit as high as ¥138,000 or $US 1,292 (starting at ¥6,500 or $US 61) and fetching about $US 470 on average. The event will have the full iDOLM@STER voice cast in attendance, so perhaps these prices are understandable.
No, no they are not.

Man I think $61 for a concert ticket is high, much less the minimum bid.
Then again with ticketscammer you don't have a great choice in ticket prices.

@SupaPhly: I really hope they decide to go cheaper when Soul Calibur IV DLC rolls around...

@Nirolak: talking about Soul Calibur IV DLC ... can you imagine hearing: "Darth Vader versus Hoshii Miki"?

This is why it doesn't matter that Idolmaster is only available for the Microsoft Idolmaster Player (er, sorry, they still call it Xbox 360? wow, that's a branding mistake).
So that average $470 - how does that compare to the tout/resale prices for some 'real-life artist' concerts in Japan? Just hoping there might be some way to calibrate the level of this... you know, are they bigger than (a) the rolling stones, (b) the beatles, (c) Jesus, etc...

Oh, shit. I would go to that concert.

So, uh, iDOLMASTER tickets are overpriced? Duh. So is their DLC for Ace Combat 6. If they actually cared about their fans, maybe they'd sell their cute, pink, googly-eyed girl-embossed aircraft at a GOOD price.

@Shiryu: Nope, you're not missing anything. Japan really, truly does have a lot of widespread social disorders that are manifesting themselves in strange ways, like this.
I fully recant though, if this is a young girls only type of thing, but I get the feeling that the actual bulk of fandom is males 25-40.

@Shiryu: Seriously. And why are there always so many articles posted about it each month? Not to sound rude, as it isn't my site and Kotaku can post whatever the hell they want, but does it really appeal to that many people that view the site? Seeing as there are only 12 comments I would think not. Oh well.

Oh, and the article is incorrect -- the voice actress for Yukiho (short straight-haired girl with a timid mind and the tendency to dig a hole to cry in), Yurisii, won't be showing up.

@Fox: If he was he'd know that these inflated prices dip down severely a week before the showing. They're doing this at a 5000+ people capacity hall consisting of 3 floors, and right now for some reason even the shittiest of seats are fetching high prices -- something that'll change once it becomes days away and people with unsold crap seats start getting desparate.
The seats fetching these insane prices right now are only the front row seats, btw. I got help from a buddy to get some tickets, we're on the front end of the second floor which means it'll be a little far away but will actually have a better view than most people on the 1st floor.

I have no trouble believing the article here. I went to TGS in 2006 and the idol master display scared me shitless. There we had thousands of balding middle age japanese men watching little girls on a screen and grinning like crazed pedofiles. So basically, what we have with the game is a large fanbase of closet pedo's with a large disposable income willing to show the world on rare occasions.(much like how the little kids are at harajuku, normal by day, freaking monsters with too much makeup and odd transvestite maid fetishes by night.)

I can see charging that much because people will pay it.
Maybe $20 off for anyone who's spend over $500 on DLC?

Okay. I could see paying $450 if it's going for charity, but probably not for a normal ticket. Now me personally I'd pay $100 if given the opportunity, but not $400+ @_@.

Crazy prices!
But not very surprizing... people in Japan have money to spend.
Be it in absurdly expensive stores in Ginza, or in otaku events such as this one.
What I find real interesting is that posts about idolmaster or whatever japanese game with anime characters are like douche magnets.
There will always be someone saying about how japanese culture is screwed up, and how japanese are pedo and such.
Because of course, western society is the pinnacle of civilization.
People seems to fail to realise that while ok, Japan has lolicon and several other open sexual deviations, it's here in the western countries that we have more pedophilia-related crimes, violence and general cultural problems.
I'd rather 10x have some closet pedos that play, read and watch lolicon related stuff and pays for events like these every now and then than tons of priests and closet pedos that will really abuse children and commit crimes which happens A LOT in western countries.
I'd also like to add a F*CK YOU to people who thinks Japan is only that.
