So, I just re-watched all three E3 presentations in a row for the second time, and each one was special in their own way, but my hat is tipped for Sony's overall appeasement to the fans. They stuck to what they did best; making great games and offering new features when we want them.

The thing I really liked about Sony's E3 presentation, aside from the occasional wry humor, was the focus on the history of the brand. From enduring consoles, PS1 2 and 3, not to mention the PSP, to lengthy Resistance 2 gameplay and LittleBigPlanet awesomeness, Sony stuck to their guns. They also stuck to their word. I expected a great presentation, nothing especially new, but reassurement that the games coming this year and the next will be as good as I know they are, and I walked away satisfied.

Tretton didn't drag on too long; he always seemed to know when viewers were reaching their time of lowest concentration, and he didn't seem to let any ego get in the way of presenting games this important. I was a bit appalled at Microsoft's attitude during E3, but Sony handled themselves exceptionally well.

Overall, I was impressed by this year's E3. I may have this reaction because my expectations weren't higher than I could handle, something many people let slip, thus being disappointed. As long as you don't put all your eggs in one basket, you'll appreciate the ones that hatch.

Thanks, Sony, for running an entertaining yet informative E3 presentation this year. I can't wait until this holiday season, and better yet, next year.

I thought Nintendo was really disappointing in a sense, but man Sony was just boring. They did not have anything really new to show us. Most of it was stats and all about their games in the past.

I didn't get to see Microsoft's performance, but I definitely thought Nintendo had it over Sony.

This is going to get lost in a sea of comments here... I was more impressed by Sony's simply because of several big things they are working on that still haven't shown(twisted metal, heavy rain, ico project, linger in shadows, killzone 2 etc)... overall it seemed like a ton of content from Sony, admittedly not all of it was interesting to me, but I know there are people that are interested in this stuff.

That being said I think it's fairly funny that the biggest things that people are discussing from MS (FF13) and Sony (Video service/trophy integration) are basically playing catchup to the other.

Sony - 8 (showed the most titles but failed to show them well, laggy DC univers, God of War just a 20 second trailer and MAG mostly CGI. Had more on offer but not too much of interest that will come out soon).

Microsoft - 7 (average presentation most of the way through but new layout and FFXIII along with some cool XBL arcade titles made it interesting)

Nintendo - 6 (had some interesting stuff but nothing great, needed more casual games. Did manage to show the next step of the Wii with the new accessory thing though)

Also while I think Sony won E3 I found FFXIII announcement mattered most to me.

@Sparx: I'll buy it if it's reviews suggest it's changed from the old games really basic style. Too human might have been big when they thought it was good, I tried the demo and I didn't find it too impressive. It's pretty good but not a big game anymore in my opinion. Obviously some will disagree but it's still okay, I'll probably get it when it drops price.

Yep and that suits me fine cos TGS is great too and it spreads it out a little atleast. Gets the companies to focus on more japanese titles which is more my taste anyway.

Like you I also played the first Fable, I have Lost Chapters for my PC. It wasn't bad but nothing that I would bother buying again. What I'm curious about is why they volutarily chose to do Multiplatform games. Wasn't Too Human supposed to be big for them? Why not show that?

The fact is E3 will never be the same again. While Sony did announce a few new titles (aside from GoW3 nothing that interests me much either) the time and place for announcing new products is now either TGS or GDC and because of that fact alone, deciding to show a couple new things earned them some extra points. Also every year theres always a joke about "maybe company X will say that something is available now during the show", while tonight isn't exaclty "now" the fact that they said it'll be up that soon certainly left quite a few speechless.

wow, that's it? MS won by a landslide, but that seems more by default than anything else. Nintendo had nothing, and Sony had too much of what we've already seen. Props to Sony though for impressive studio support on day one of their download service.

Netflix and FFXIII are huge for MS, but only on a very superficial level. The reality probably is that the Sony service will provide better content than Netflix, but Netflix will get MS a lot of mainstream press. Same with FFXIII -- won't translate into too many sales or console purchases, but it makes a great headline.

@Sparx: I wouldn't say it looks sad, it looks pretty good but it might not appeal to you. I played through the first and found it to be crap so I'm wary of this one but it doesn't mean it can't be good, Killzone was crap but Killzone 2 isn't looking bad. I agree it's all about taste but equally that's what made Sony's even seem weak to me too. I'm a fan of RPG, fighting games and FPS mostly, MS and Sony may not be doing much fighting game wise but RPG wise MS is owning the PS3. FPS (and shooter) wise I'm happy with Fallout 3, Gears of war 2 and portal but Killzone 2 does look tempting.
I admit MS had a weak showing other than FFXIII but since what's already announced interests me that doesn't bother me much. I can see where your coming from though, if your not an Xbox fan then apart from FFXIII MS did very little to pull new people in.

Probably already been said, but I find it really hard to get excited over the GOW3 teaser trailer. I have played the crap out of GOW and GOW2. We all knew GOW3 was coming. It feels like Sony just hurried and put together something. Without even an ounce of gameplay footage no one knows how far off this is. Now if they gave an approximate release date it would have made all the difference IMO.

they might as well have just played the ending to GOW2 and said GOW3 is coming.... eventually... trust us. That would have been about as useful.

I think a large problem with E3 is that the console makers aren't always working with the third parties enough. Like MS got to announce FFXIII but they couldn't do it for just any game they wanted. For example if EA made something new and great they'd have there own showing. It'd be a lot cooler if it was just 3 presentations (from Sony, MS and Ninty) and all the companies (EA, SE and whatnot) came to all 3 to show people what they were doing for each console.

The main problem I find is that there's not enough announcements. 360 had one really good announcement (FFXIII) and the PS3 lot was messed up (DC universe looked buggy, God of war and MAG were all CGI) but atleast they got a few announcements out. We need more cool announcements at E3 rather than boring sales pitches followed by a stocking filler or two to keep us happy for listening.

Well Fable2 looks pretty sad and Moleynox doesn't exactly have the best track record. I could care less about Gears, Portal, or Halo Wars because thats not my style. You have your tastes and I have mine. What I was trying to tell you was that RE5, FO3 were some of their biggest headliners and yet those are multiplatform games. I don't rent movies so Netflix is a waste of my time as well. That just leaves the Avatars, new interface, and lips and to me, that all equates to one big snoozefest. If it wasn't for FFXIII MS would've been about on par with Nintendo and thats saying a lot

Hmmm, I didn't know this until someone mentioned it to me, but Sony Computer Entertainment owns (roughly) 9% of Square Enix's shares and is its third largest shareholder (probably due to the losses SE had to deal with due to The Spirits Within).

Wow, E3 sucked for everyone but Microsoft. I officially learned from Nintendo what happens when you buy a Launch System from them. You pay Nintendo to beta test their product. And no games worth a damn on the Wii... I am seriously thinking of selling mine now, if it wasn't for my brats it would be gone. As for Sony, I think I might have heard some groaning or shifting while it still lay comatose on the floor from the FF XIII raping they took, of course then again that could have been the sound of maggots trying to chew their way out of a diseased corpse.

gears of war 2 - because it's the only shooter showing anything remotely innovative and fun as far as gameplay goes.
Fallout 3 - because of it's open world, 100 hrs of gameplay, and great rpg elements
RE5 - cause it looks scary
Left 4 Dead - It's Valve. 'Nuff said.
Half-life: ep 3 - because of it's great immersive story with no cut-scenes

I wouldn't say this was disappointing, any more than I found MS's presser last year disappointing. Since when is it a bad thing to show you what is coming in the very near future? WHy should Sony show some ultra-secret and ultra-new title? Was anything they showed a total let-down? DC Online, could be good if you like the MMO stuff, granted WOW would have been a much larger bomb-shell.

They showed a solid line-up of games that will be out in the next few months, same as MS. They showed a bit of innovation in expanding their PSN and Live funtionalities. I saw a lot of PR spin, but I would say they were both pretty even.

In terms of "shock value" and surprise, well the showmanship likely goes to MS with the FF13 announcement, but nothing short of Halo on the PS3 would have equaled that.

I think we're all just looking at E3 in the wrong way.

Its not the same as it was as an opened-for-gamers event, booths for each publisher, big lights and effects, and of course, loads of announcements.

Now its more of the boring,for journalists-and-full-with-boring-useless-statistics and only several gameplay(which excludes Sony) trailers. That's because the actual audience this information is intended to is just not around the stage anymore.

E3 today has become a series of boring(most of the times) or unsurprising\unsatisfying conferences, at least when compared to previous years of glory.

I guess the big 3 will save their more exciting surprises\announcements for TGS or other not journalists-only events.

FFXIII was the biggest announcement in E3 so far, but it doesn't look like the PS3 is going the way of the Dreamcast. I was glad to see a few games that aren't FPS's share some of the spotlight like Fat Princess (I'm hoping that it's hella funny and just wrong) and Flower. Hopefully RPGs will come out for the PS3 like they did for the PS2.

LBP is too cute, and I'm interested in the R&C series. Since I have yet to play a single game (only watched my friends play) from the series, I am looking forward to the episodic content. That SONY can give developers looking at the PS3 great customer service and really encourage them that it's worth it to make games for the system.

(superfrogsavestokyo doesn't own a PS# or stock in SONY. In fact, superfrogsavestokyo owns a 360, DS, and bought a few months prior a PSP.[Hell, I didn't even own a PS2 and had to rely on generous friends to play games on it. Gotta love pity loans.] Superfrogsavestokyo is stoked about a ffxiii game coming out on the 360 and isn't fond of the exclusive games.)

I don't care about anyone's negative thoughts about Sony's press conference. I thought they did a really good job. I was very impressed by the amount of video content that will be available day one.

Microsoft 'bitch slapped' Sony pretty hard by getting Final Fantasy 13 (that is saying a lot coming from a proud PS3 fanboy like myself... lol) but Sony was able to slap them back by having so many video store partners on day one.

I think (meaning I might be wrong) that it took Microsoft much longer to acquire this many partners for their video store and for Sony to announce a service AND have it available the day it is announced with a bunch of content is quite impressive. :-)

Here's the difference between Microsoft's E3 presser and Sony's in a nutshell.

Microsoft displayed more material that will be ready within a year. In Sony's case, we saw a lot of promising, potentially awesome stuff, but we have no idea when it's going to be ready. HOME isn't ready for beta and all we know is that MAG and GoW 3 are in development. Sony has given me nothing be excited about in the near future, just a lot of vague promises for 2010 and beyond.

Pretty good presentation from Sony. I was kinda looking for Kill Zone 2 but hell we've all seen a lot of it already. The rest of the year's line up sure looks promising. Fallout, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm 2 etc.

I found it amusing that FFXIII was not even presented even in their snippets, still we know it's coming after what? 2 years?

God of War 3 was awesome, seeing Kratos up there all in his HD glory was great.

I'm very much interested in M.A.G., don't know how they'll pull that off but 250+ players? damn.....thought Resistance got it made with the 60+ players but this one takes the cake.

That Sackboy presentation was just so darn cute. Go Sackboy.

Sony has some good software coming up but their showing didn't compare to Microsoft's. MS just had too much up it's sleeve. Sony is just playing catch up again (video store and the weather/news) as far as PSN goes. I am excited to play Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet though. And hopefully MAG turns out really good. I'll be following that one.

...and when is FFXIII releasing? In the US? Cause as far as I know, it's still exclusive to PS3 in japan, and THEN they are gonna work on it for 360 when they begin localizing. And Versus XIII is still exclusive to PS3.

While FFXIII going to 360 is a hit to PS's pride. It's not anything THAT major.

Sony showed more "new" IP's than MS this year. MS is still just trying to copy what has been done in the past, while Sony (and nintendo as well) are working towards the future.

Want more of the same? Go with MS.

Want something to look forward to? Go with PS or Wii.

The LBP presentation was really innovative, but I almost fell asleep watching the rest of it. A pity really: I was really rooting for Sony to counter with some competition after the FF13 debacle.

Rather disappointed Sony neglected to show off White Knight or any other RPG based titles. It was better than Nintendo's but I didn't see enough to really neglect the blow of FF13 losing it's exclusivity on the console.

The best things from this conference are:

- Video service
- GOW3
- Resistance 2 is now confirmed amazing
- PSP Resistance, Patapon2, LocoRoco 2

I hate Sony for not giving any GOW3 gameplay, no MAG gameplay, and leaving out titles like Heavy Rain completely. I was expecting something fucking huge and I got CG trailers. Way to go.

This is disappointing, but it definitely outdid Microsoft and Nintendo, solely because of the LBP presentation of numbers. That rocked the boat big time.

But yeah, I missed 3rd party exclusive announcements and stuff like that. And CG trailers are shite, simple as that.

I liked the look and idea of DC universe but it was buggy as crap so seemed a bit poorly done. Fat princess looked cool to me XD MAG is nothing to me, might be fun now and then but I doubt it's fun when you die early and the game continues for another 30 minutes. Plus it was almost all CGI. God of war 3 was just a 20 second trailer but we know it'll come so whatever.

Sony announced more, and if what they announced interests you then they probably won E3, but for me I'm just going to be happy with Final fantasy 13 and have my own opinion that MS won E3 this round.

Well, this conference beat the crap out of Nintendo's, although it didn't have any truly earth-shattering news (see: FF13 and Netflix on Xbox 360)

Also, for me the price is STILL too high even with the cut on the 80 GB unit. That said, MAG does look pretty interesting.

God of War III, Infamous (is it even platform exclusive?), and MAG...okay. I'm eager for the first, I'll be playing Infamous on 9/16 (it's called The Force Unleashed), and MAG...sounds like WOW in FPS mode. As a PS3 owner I give Sony's presser a 6.75/10
