LOS ANGELES, July 15 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) today unveiled a broad line up of software for PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)), PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable), and PLAYSTATION(R)Network during a press event to kick off the annual E3 Media & Business Summit 2008. An extensive look into Resistance 2(TM), the highly anticipated sequel of PS3 launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man(R), was given by Insomniac Games President Ted Price to kick off the show.
"The PlayStation family of products is unsurpassed in 2008 with a lineup of exclusive content for all platforms developed by the best and brightest development teams in the world," said Scott A. The highly-acclaimed Ratchet & Clank(R) series makes an appearance with a fresh title created specifically for PLAYSTATION Network by Insomniac Games, Ratchet & Clank(R) Future: Quest for Booty. Other original content available through PLAYSTATION Network was also on display, granting guest access to previously unseen footage of the experimental PixelJunk(TM) Eden from Q-Games, independent gaming experience of Flower, the episodic Siren: Blood Curse and previously unannounced games like Crash Commando and Fat Princess.
SCEA also announced some of its most entertaining titles making their portable premieres on the PSP system with the quiz show fun of BUZZ!(TM) Master Quiz, an updated and portable version of the classic arcade game Super Stardust Portable and sequels to two of the most innovative platform action games to hit PSP; LocoRoco(TM)2 and Patapon(TM)2. Unveiled to the public for the first time was Resistance: Retribution(TM), a third person shooter developed by SCEA's Bend Studio based in the Resistance universe and featuring a proprietary control system designed specifically for the PSP system.
In addition to SCEA's robust first-party line-up, PlayStation fans will have further reason to get excited about expanding their game libraries as over 350 new titles from their publishing partners will be released this fiscal year for the PS3, PLAYSTATION Network, PSP and PlayStation(R)2 systems, encompassing industry leading franchises as well as new intellectual properties from Capcom(R), Midway(R), NAMCO BANDAI GAMES AMERICA, and Sega(R). @jfx316:
I thought Sony was pretty unimpressive to be honest.
So, without anymore detail, I'll answer your question and say I think MS won this year.
And I don't even care about Final Fantasy.

If we look at it all from a business sense then MS 'won'. By getting a 360 version of ffxiii they have helped make up the minds of a huge amount of ff fans yet to buy a ps3, reducing potential sales for ps3. Also, love It or hate it, the new dash update is a huge announcement that is aimed at making the 360 much more accessable and undaunting new gamers looking to go from wii to 360.
PS3 showed little to stimulate interest with the only really interesting stuff being god of war confimation and MAG which is only really at the ideas stage. Video marketplace is a plus but nothing that hasn't been done before. Business wise it was very much 'watch this space'.
Whilst ninty was very more of the same.

I'm confused. Is there a Valkyria Chronicles for the PSP? It's not on the list.

That is weird that they list Heavy Rain on this list. I would have loved to have seen it.
@jfx316:
I am sure that this will be discussed at length, but to me personally, Sony had the most titles that excited me and made me want to get a PS3, since I only have a Wii right now. Getting an exclusive to go multiplatform is important, but not as compelling as showing a lot of fresh original content.

no one won, i was not very impressed with any of the showings.. i mean i loved the games sony showed, i guess i was just expecting more or better suprises. 360 gettings Fantasy XIII was killer but their overall showing i thought was weak too.. and nintendo, well it was just very weak

i asked this question in the god of war thread, but i'll post it here ass well:
who "won" E3?
does MS win for stealing one of the PS3 most sought after titles that isn't even close to coming out and showing almost nothing new that we didn't know about, introducing a new dashboard and movie partnership, and opening up more as a "casual" colsole?
or
does sony win for dropping the price of the PS3, introducing the video store, (tonight!!!) showing the holiday line up on all systems and early next year that most look actually really cool?
thoughts? fanboy/internet memes need not apply.

PS3 did not have a price drop. You are getting the 40gb machine (no PS2 ability) with an 80gb HDD. Basically they are giving you an extra 40gb for the same price. Whoopty-fucking-do. I guess people will pick it up though because it seems "better".
If I had to pick I would say MS "won". The games were great, just a shame we knew about almost all of them before. The GUI redo looks great. The new clearance price should help sell consoles and I am betting the 60gb will drop to the new price just in time for X-mas. MS won't shoot themselves in the foot by announcing a price drop. Netflix is also a nice addition. FFXIII was HUGE. A lot of people who haven't decided on a system will be swayed by this.
Second I give to Nintendo. I am excited about the new adapter for increased control accuracy. This is my favorite news of the show so far. Tiger Woods Golf just got a lot more interesting. Game announcements are ok.
Sony didn't do much worse than the others. The new games look awesome, much better than MS, and Nintendo. The movie thing is ok, buying a movie is cool. The 256 player online game (MAG) looks spectacular. I just hope they can make it fun and really work at all.
I am happy with the news since I own all 3 consoles. Together the news is great!

@thegreatseal: i wouldn't say unimpressive as much as we've seen most of this stuff already. i got that feeling overall with all the press conferences. i think we might hear more later on this week. E3 IS still going on, you know.
the video store sounds interesting. if it works as well as the new storefront, i'll give it a go. but only if i can watch ATHF.

@Frank: By strange contrast though, I'm actually pretty hopeful for the PSP given the recent announcements. >_> Amazing how things work out.

Given what's happened over the past few days, all I'm gonna say is that Sony seem resigned to let the PS3 become a less-expensive-than-the-dedicated video player with games as an added side function.

Mag looks amazing, but to be honest, they really needed to come out and kill it for me buy a PS3 (and a lot of my friends who were watching). They needed some blockbuster announcements, and all we got were more delays and announcements about God of War III that could be years and years away.
I was going to get a PS3 in 2 months, but I will spend my money elsewhere and enjoy my 360.

I think what a few people are forgetting about MAG is that when they interviewed developers the common response was untapped resources still left. Theres a big chunk of the PS3 power they have yet to tap into. These were not Sony Developers, these were many different ones who said this.
Zipper mentioned that MAG has been three years into production and will be released next year. Oh yah, they also mentioned that it was coming close to pushing the PS3 full potential. Last time we saw something like that was MGS. Imagine a online game with similar power that MGS possessed. This game could be really really good.

@TheRealMaxPower:
Funny you go touting the 360 price drop and the launch of a 60GB for the same price, but then you bash Sony a bit for doing something identical. Both companies are essentially doing away with the two skus and introducing new skus with 40GB more.
For $50 more im getting 20GB more space (which in MS world is like $80 worth), along with built in wifi and bluray player. How is this not a good deal?
MS won because the games were great? Good then the PS3 should win as well, seeing as a big chunk of MS's Presser were multiplatform games. Yes they are now sharing FF, which is great for all gamers, except for the ones who were eagerly waiting for this game next year who dont live in Japan. Those who were, both PS3 and for the 360, will have to wait a few months LONGER, maybe even a year.
Netlfix was huge. Then how come Sonys almost identical offer through there video store, which btw, was live tonight.
Nintendo 2nd??? You think the Waggle Control + for the Game Cube + was a good addition worthy enough for a ES presser? Yay i get to play instruments that arent there and throw frisbees to a fake dog. Or I could actually go out and do all those things!

@jfx316:
Well that FF13 announcment was quite a shock so yeah..
but admittedly I never liked any JRPGs so um, big news in the industry, but nothing too big for me personally.
However the new PSN titles, GOWIII and video service left me satisfied.

@tehFluffz: square admitted that FF13 isn't coming until at least 2010. so, getting FF13 from sony isn't going to have any impact NOW. minus that, MS didn't really have anything other then GoW2 and the new halo, whenever MS says it's cool to talk about it.
