It's time for our favourite conference party game: Justify Your Game. This time around we go 15 seconds with Hironobu Takeshita, the producer of Mega Man 9.
@Xtreme_Hindu_Cow: Yea, but the key difference is that those old school skills had to be honed to a razor point because death actually meant something back then because you had things like lives and limited continues. You don't have to try as hard nowadays simply because you don't have to beat it in one sitting, you can just limp your way through a game if you needed to.
As far as 1 & 2 being on VC? My GCN Mega Man Anniversary Collection kinda negates my need for those.

@KaneRobot: Yeah, let's make fun of the man because his name, which I'm sure kicks ass in Japan, happens to coincide unfortunately with another phrase here...
"Can you justify your Mega Man misterrrr... Take a shit? Sir, this is a serious event please take your immature shenanigans elsewhere."

@Darth Navster: I don't know about that. I can still beat the first Contra without dying, but have difficulty with Contra 4. I think part of that was having the second screen of action, which means you have a lot more real estate to keep track of. Or sometimes you have a bullet that originates in the gap between the screens, and you have almost no time to react to it.
In short, I think Contra 4 is actually a good bit harder than the older Contras, so I wouldn't use that as a good indicator of what your skills are now compared to then.
I heard that this game is designed to be old school hard. I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand it will help me relive the days of challenging difficulty on the NES, but playing Contra 4 made me realize that my old school skills have atrophied so much that I shouldn't even bother.
Why waste time trying to justify games that really need none? I'd personally like Kotaku to talk to one of the Konami people and have them try to justify Castlevania Judgment, 15 seconds or otherwise.
1) Restores the "normal" and "Hard" difficulties to 2?
2) Doesn't have those annoying pop ups
3) Retains all the original HUD?
4) Plays on a close approximation of the NES controller?
Not that I'm trying to convince you, 'cause you sound pretty convinced already . . .
YES! Megaman 2 on VC finally! i hate playing megaman on a gamecube controller!
also i thought it was kinda funny that he called it Megaman 9 instead of Rockman 9.

@Tubatic: I know this is and old topic already, but I felt I needed to answer:
1) Restores the "normal" and "Hard" difficulties to 2? Normal and Hard difficulties are selectable for ALL Mega Man games in Anniversary Collection, or better said, Easy and Normal difficulties :)
2) Doesn't have those annoying pop ups You can turn them off from the options screen at start.
3) Retains all the original HUD? You can also turn them off from the options screen at start. Same with remixed music. In fact you can make it look and feel exactly as the original versions.
4) Plays on a close approximation of the NES controller?
The MMAC is available for PS2, XB and NGC, so choose the controller you most like :D
Well, after this shameful advertisement, I walk away :P
LOL Sam! I was not prepared to see him, though I never am.

I doubt that. It's just that we've played through all the levels in the old Contras dozens or even hundreds of times. A decade later, that still counts for something.
There were actually different Boxarts in different Euopean countries. Link: [www.retropelihuolto.com]
Most of Europe actually got the middle box.
