TF2 + Legos = Amazle
Posted by Owen Good at 3:00 AM on July 21, 2008
Swear, I don't have a sentry gun fetish. Although it would be cool to meet a girl who did (I don't judge). Last week we churned up a video of a guy who developed a paintball sentry, and now reader Mohammed I. passes along a less functional, but no less impressive version: A Lego Sentry. Props to the builder, and especially for the game-screen render around it. Seriously, new desktop pic. It's a work of art and should stand for all time. Until some bastard-arse Spy whips up a Lego sapper.

I have seen some mighty impressive lego creations in my time, but that really is one of the most impressive I've seen. Darth Vader would agree, "most impressive!"

Wow. That's impressive, but I have to say I'd rather see what the Halo kid would make of Team Fortress 2 if we gave him twelve pounds of cardboard and five rolls of duct tape. I wouldn't put it past him to make the screen render itself out of cardboard.
Kids > adults.

If I had to guess, I'd say he used a lot of Lego Technic parts. Technic usually has a lot more elaborate pieces.

Exactly. So basically, this isnt LEGO. LEGO would be something like this:
[www.blogsmithmedia.com]
THAT would be cool. But this TF2 sentry gun? It's not as impressive. Not when you think that the parts are basically built so you can create things like this... it's like me sending in a photo of a car I built out of METAL of all things.
Don't get me wrong, it's cool, but it's not LEGO as we know it. It's far less impressive.

@MrsXBob:
Personally I think Lego Technic creations that use a minimum number of pieces to achieve the right proportions and details are a lot more impressive than gigantic structures built out of generic 2x4 bricks.
The former requires a lot of creativity and familiarity with the various parts that are available. The latter is just a matter of using enough bricks to achieve sufficient resolution.

Good Morning TF2 fans! I posted this on the Steampowered TF2 forums late last night, what an excellent surprise to wake up to! Thanks for your kind words and interest! What an exceptional amount of feedback! Special thanks too to Owen Good & Mµrdoc for the crosslinks. Answers to some of the questions: Build time: approx 11 hours Part count: unsure, but a lot! It's bigger than it looks... Height: 44 cm / 17 inches Dispenser: maybe someday, I will post it if it happens :) Contrary to appearances, and apparently some opinions, it is made entirely out of LEGO. Building with LEGO is my main hobby, so my collection and this creation contain parts you might not be familiar with. Pretty much the entire base is made from the LEGO Technic beam elements, the only way to get the strength I needed for such a large freestanding model. Thanks again for the comments, keep 'em coming! See you in the servers, Steve LEGO_Mancer _________________________________________________________________

Clearly, noliferuin saw the ZP review of Lego Indy Jones. Anyway, that is pretty cool. Level 3 and everything. I wonder if there actually will be TF2 Lego kits. I bet they'd sell.... There is Weighted Companion Cube merch, after all, so it's not impossible.
