Gulliver's Travels Meets SimCity
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 10:00 PM on July 24, 2008
It's SimCity meets Gulliver's Travels. Dubbed A Kingdom for Keflings, players construct a kingdom, well, for the Keflings in this Ninja Bee developed Xbox Live Arcade title. Kinda like the idea of building stuff for little people — but only if I can smash it to smithereens when I'm finished!

That actually looks kind of cool. Too bad I don't have a 360. Looks like it's time to start pitching this game to my friends.

I've never seen smithereens in print before...
But I agree with your appetite for destruction of innocent villagers.

Since XBLA games tend to be cheap this will probably offer some worthwhile entertainment, besides I like building cities.
The Bee was awesome also.

Sounds like the Settlers but with more control over your people. I'm interested.

@Erwos: Wild animals maybe?
Of course, technically speaking... the whole point of the game is to build a castle. Hard to imagine what good a castle is other than to keep baddies out.
I'm guessing AI-controlled "bandits" and such... maybe. Since the game is co-op, I'm guessing there's no one else working toward the same goals in your game (otherwise a competitive mode would seem simple enough), so any opponents are likely less organized belligerents.

They really should create some sort of universal language (Why can I not think of the technical term?) for these XBL/PSN/WiiWare games. I don't think any of the games can't be ported due to technical restrictions.
Also, that ninja bee is awesome.

@dv8godd: He's building a gatehouse. You don't need gates unless there's something to fight against.
I'm a huge Ninja Bee fan, so I'm definitely looking forward to this game.

@dv8godd: Upon perusing the article, no mention of any "combat" or competition of any type that I picked up. But that said, after reading, I'm still interested.
A streamlined and slightly-arcade-y SimCity type game, along the lines of what Cid did for Civ Revolution, might be pretty interesting.
Either way, even though I'm still a fan of the massively huge empire building games like Civ, SoaSE, etc... it's really great to see companies taking an interest in creating more smoothed out experiences for when I don't feel like dedicating 30 hours to a single round.
Of course... a 10-12 hour playthrough on this particular title makes me wonder if it's actually that simple.
Definitely keeping an eye.

Crap, I can see myself losing track of many many hours with this game.

Is it just me or do Live Arcade and PSN games have their own unique "style" where you can just look the graphics/interface and tell which console it's for?

I'll follow it. Not sure what the point is by looking at that vid, but I'm a sucker for building vast empires of things.
Of course, getting to smack the hell out of the little people in the neighboring village by sheer numerical, technological, and tactical superiority is where it really gets good, so I sure hope it's got some of that.

<3 Ninja Bee! They've consistently put out good games on XBLA. This one looks like it'll continue the trend.

Crappy music, interesting game. More like Black and White than Sim City.
