Rumour: Wii Music Dated for Japan, Different Coloured Straps In-Coming
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 11:00 PM on July 24, 2008
Not confirmed, but Nintendo-centric Japanese blog Rambing Man has a street date for Wii Music: The game will apparently be released on October 16th for ¥5,800 ($US 54) as part of the Touch Generation Series and will have Wi-Fi. Other details floating include a Japanese release date for Captain Rainbow (August 28th for ¥6,800 or $US 63) and Valkyrie Profile DS (October 2nd for ¥5040 or $US 47). Oh, new Wii-mote straps, too. Make that new, coloured Wii-mote straps. Priced at ¥300 a piece, they'll come in white, pink, blue and green. All four will be available for ¥1,000. Those will be out this September, says Rambling Man.
Quick show of hands: Who's interested in picking up Wii Music? Who's keen for new strap colours?

@Fujoshi: EXACTLY why I removed mine, I noticed its color compared to the other ones was incredibly darker... wash, wahs, wash.
Nintendo didn't foresee we would spend so much time playing , eh?

Sure, I'll pick up Wii Music. I know at least one person in the house that would be thrilled. And I'll be happy for any new strap at this point. Mine are all the original replacements and they're kinda filthy at this point.

@SteveeVader: Jesus, Stevee, your comment is just plain... wrong and ugly.
@danny841: I understand where youre comming from, im the #1 sad Wii owner after this E3 faield to produce Wii interations of F-Zero/Starfox/Pilotwings, but you have to understand Nintendo made the DS and the Wii to generate new audience. You have to trust in me that there no humanly possible way wii Music took a month to make.
I say we better wait and see, I also saw eveyone bashing Castlevania Wii wihtou even seeing the game in motion, as I saw Megaman 9 being acclaimed froma single still image.
Besides, Nintendo isnt forcing anyne to buy anything. IT is, in the end, your choice.
Don't worry, tough, I think they got the message quite clearly that we Wii* owners tha have had Nintendo systems since the NES are not happy about this E3 showing.
*Lol, I finnaly did it, I wrote "We Wii" in a setence. Im proud. Exiting stage to the left.

Yeh great the game doesn't even have an objective or anything except sounding like I am being raped by a childrens toy box.

@danny841: You're making quite a lot of assumptions in there. Maybe the game will suck, maybe it won't. Maybe it won't have any more input than shaking a baby toy, maybe it will. Maybe it'll be boring, maybe it'll be fun. Maybe, like all Nintendo's other casual games, it'll be a pretty good casual game but probably not enough to keep a 'hardcore' gamer entertained for long.
Don't get me wrong I'm not planning to buy it, I just think it would be a good idea not to jump to conclusions before the final version is done and there's reviews out.

@Shiryu: Yeah conditions in Japan would be quite different. I mean I have a whole room for my gaming, but to most people that just isn't possible. Wii Music has no added on peripherals right? Besides the board, which is not even close to the size of a drum set, so to those people who don't have room for a RockBand this will be huge.
@danny841: That is one thing I don't really like about Wii Music, its lack of goals.

@Shiryu:
I expect this game to sell very well, especially in Japan. But Japanese games are usually of the hands off variety, that is to say there's not much game to them. This is the same country with an entire genre devoted to games entirely comprised of text and scantily clad teens. The fact that they're million sellers does not make them good games.

@Satis24: I have not seen first party Nintendo Games selling out over here, with the exception of Mario Galaxy wich was (understandbly) sold out for 2 weeks after its launch.
you raise a good point, tough. We usualy only think our surroundings. All the people nay saying Wii music with their own reasons seldom think that living space in Japan is small. And by small I mean tiny. Thigs liek tmagochi seem crazed to us, but in japan, where having a pet was quite uncommom for most kids, it sold billions. I don't reckon most japanese familie shave the sort of space at home to acoomodaet a full set of Rock Band instruments (thaths why they go to the arcades for this stuff, after all, right?) so Wii Music may have appeal to those people.
Speakign for myself, I sleep in the living room, so if I don't have my own room, it's hard to to justify having such a setup on the livign room...

Wii Music looks terribly boring. I can't imagine adults playing this full knowing you're not really doing anything, there's no point system, no goals, no new songs to pick up, you don't even have to DO anything in particular to make a song to play. I mean you waggle the controller and sound comes out. I liked it better when I had the toy as a baby. There's just something terribly annoying about the lack of a real game here. At the very least people defending this could at least admit it's a glorified tech demo.
Maybe I shouldn't be so angry at the game. But there are just so many nagging complaints I have. Like the fact that this being played by so many casual gamers (i.e. Soccer Moms) means this will perpetuate the myth that games are only toys. And the fact that Nintendo (one of the richest companies in the industry and the only one that makes a profit on consoles sold) can manufacture a game that in all honesty took a month to develop.
Am I alone here?

Truth be told, if it is dull and shallow I hope it flops and flops big. Maybe that would send a message to Nintendo.

Will the supply be able to keep up with the demand of Wii Music though? Otherwise it will just be like another Rock Band situation.

Wii Music...no.
Colored straps? Yes please!! I've been waiting for these since launch day. It reminds me of keitai straps. They could make these for every game and game company out there. It would make a great little pre-order bonus. Though they would probably be more popular in Japan, since said keitai straps are also pretty much only in Japan.

@Satis24: Wii owners got their choices made for them, since at the time, Rock Band wasn't even announced it would come to the Wii. Lets face it, if they coudnt keep up with the supply for the 360/PS3 version in the US alone, imagine the disaster it would have been to meet the demand fromWii owners. In fact, the game is out and I have yet to see a single copy of it in my country, with reports of it not being seen in preety much anywhere in Euroland.

@Shiryu: haha thats fantastic. I held out for Rock Band assuming it would be the better of the two, because it came out with just the guitar. Maybe its just a personal perference but I only really played it the month/2 months after I got it, I really haven't touched it since. Thats why I'm hesitant to even consider Wii Music because I think that the same thing will happen.

@Woodwater: About the lack of challenge/pointlessness:
Ah, but the key thing is that in a game about making music, what matters is whether it *sounds* good - and no computer can tell you that (ever tried harmonising in singstar?). But people come with pre-installed ears that can do that. So, yes there's a challenge to it, but it is outside of the game.
You can tell from the cacophony at the Nintendo presser - that it won't be quite as easy as people seem to make out.

@Woodwater: That's what im saying too, it appeals more to people who are not musicans, it has the Nintendo "Blue Ocean" strategy all over it: please and excite people who have never touched a videogame before (even if not a game in the regular sense) or never played an instrument in their life. Im also quite looking forward GH4 for it's music making capabilities.

@Shiryu: I'm a once professional, now hobbyist musician, and I see no problem with Wii music as well. I have a hell of a time with Guitar Hero and I'm looking forward to the GH4 drums. What I'm saying, is that, I just can't see myself being excited about it. I think part of the reason GH or even Rock Band are motivating people to pick up a real guitar is because there's some sort of challenge to it.
Like I said, I'm SURE they'll sell a crap load, and, I'm sure that, when I go to a Christmas party once the game is released everyone will try it and everyone will enjoy it. Perhaps even me.
It's just that it seems pointless in it's execution. Which, maybe is what it's supposed to be.
But I truly feel that joining an air band would accomplish the same thing.

@Satis24: I've stayed away from them at first (physical space issues) and I prefer to make music for real (you would be amazed with the quantity of synths that are software emulated to perfection these days), but could not resisit all the madness around Guitar Hero 3, so I decided to buy it for the Wii last Xmas (note: Rock Band was nowehre in sight for the Wii at the time, and we still don't really have it in Europe). Bought GH3 Aerosmith last month. My dad looks at me funny when I play it, he is either wondering "How can I play that without looking like a dofus liek him?" or "Dammit, we raised himwrong!". You are, however correcct, there is a saturation of music games in the market already, this is Nintendo's take on that pie, I think theyre different enought to warrant the purchase (and the fact I wont need any exta peripherals sure helps my decision).

I have no interest in Wii Music. It didn't look particularly fun when they were showing it on stage. Holding a Wiimote like an instrument and dancing just doesn't appeal to me. If I could play the game by wildly waving my Wiimote in the air and there is no difference in the outcome between me playing right, I don't want to play. As far as straps go, I would rather wait for the green Wiimotes.
