About that losing your save files.. what about getting the HD out, put a NEW one in. When the Fix is out, you can put the old one back in ?? Just an Idea, also for future Problems, since the formating the HD thing seems to be an Universal Solution for a lots of problems (GTAIV anyone?)

@TheIrishNinja: Back up your data on a memory stick. That's what I do... I hope the SSHD patch is re-released as well. I got the 2.40 update with no problems, so I bought SSHD 2 days later for the trophies. Sadly, they took the patch down for it when they took the firmware update down, so I spent a fiver on nothing (although it's still a great game I guess)

@Iarwain: The problem are games with save files you can't back-up... I have a few that are locked and I can't make a back-up of, so if I lose my hard drive, they are gone. They should really remove that so people can back up their saves for all games, period.

@photoboy: I sent one of my old computer harddrives in for recovery once. The quote I recieved was $1600. I'm not sure if this would cause the same type of damage (maybe not since it's not physical), but it'd just be easier to reformat and go again.

So what's Sony's solution for the people who have bricked PS3s? Are they stuck with losing their save games or do they have to send their console back to Sony (and possibly still lose their save games)?

@photoboy: It's annoying that even if you have backed up your game saves, if you have Rock Band you have to redo everything which is annoying. That's more a problem with that game though than anything.

2.40 has been running fine for me, however I've said before that I've noticed the HD light on a lot more than it used to be. Just going from left to right in the XMB makes its flash for a few seconds now, and I can hear it as well. I haven't used the PS3 since reading of all this, and by the time I get back to it 2.41 should be out.

I'd love to know what the issue was. If its only bricking select machines, it must be due to some setting, savefile, or leftover file that was only on those machines.

I'm going to go with something involving the server side or downloading of the firmware.If you mess with the power or cut off a PS3 during firmware loading,you will cause some of the issues that people have seen.Possibly even brick your PS3.
At that point,you can only reformat your HDD and start new.

Well I hope this works out for people. I actually happy that this is being tagged by Kotaku because I plan to avoid the internet the week of the June NPDs and the fact of whether 2.4 is fixed or not will become fuel for the shitty console wars along with other favorites like the dominance of MGS4.

No problems with 2.40 on my end. Downloaded in about 10 or so minutes, and installed quicker than that. I believe the 2nd half of its inception, something got corrupted and the latter got infected with defunct installation files.

Over 80% of my friendslist are on 2.40 with no problems. But the fix is very much welcome just to put my mind at ease. Unless the fix comes with more problems, but rarely does it do that..... does it?

@enewtabie: This is why i bought a ups last year.I changed a bios setting on my pc.Exited to save and restart, at that very moment power fluctuated due to lightning 10 miles away and my motherboard was no more,probably with half the bios saved.Talk about bad luck.
I now have 2 pcs and my ps3 attached to my ups.The power has gone off altogether quite a few times since and i just keep on gaming or whatever till it`s back on.Well worth the money.

@ kylo4, The HD access light comes on more because everything thats saved on it has to be accessed to be displayed when you move from left to right. It's accessing the HD most likely because the RAM is occupied by the game. Less access light when not in game 'cuz all those thumbnails, etc., are in the RAM. Gotta be!

From what I understand, the game is not doing Trophies at this time.

I'm never rushing to update my system anymore.. It's like i have to use other ppl as guinea pigs first, especially when the forums seem to come alive with all the chatter about something crashing. My 20 gig may not be all that sexy anymore but it still does the job for me.. and does it well. I want to keep it this way.
