From my understanding, the only problems were during the install. It's when the board gets flashed, and it restarts for the first time under 2.40, where the problem will exist.

If it flashes correctly and restarts properly that first time, you're golden and have no problem and no fear.

Yay! Just got back home from visiting the family and get to try it out!

I didn't get to install 2.40, due to the 850 mile distance between myself and the PS3. So now I get to try out trophies, in-game XMB, and all that good stuff... Tomorrow.

You see, I just got back to Virginia from Michigan after a 16 hour drive through traffic, at least six collective hours of a four year old repeating "I have to pee, I have to pee, I have to pee," and at least two dirty shirts due to an infant puking all over them.

I came on long enough to catch up, see that my name is an extreme long shot on the King of Commenters job, and now I'm going to bed to hibernate like a good PapaBear should.

People, Sony has given us quite a few firmware updates so far with the PS3, and this is the first one to ever give any significant issue to any number of people. There is no reason to believe that this 2.41 is going to make your system into a doorstop anymore than anyone had a reason to believe 2.40 would.

It was a fluke, and they fixed it rather quickly. Let's all just be happy and move on, shall we?

@Maldron: True, i don't normally use it, but when it comes to the chase scene and your trying to aim at moving targets while you're moving and you can't kill anyone and have to conserve ammo(solar gun) it's essential

Switch between solar and tranq gun(lock-on is your friend). Both do one shot knockouts. Stun grenades are also helpful. Something useful is that if you hold triangle you hide behind big mama reducing the chance of being hit.

With that one blast, he kills a tank battalion and the enemies main HQ, thus ending the game and saving everyone approximately sixty four hours in cut scenes.

Remove hard drive from PS3. Connect it to PC. Format hard drive. Replace in PS3. Format drive in PS3.

Saves and other stuff have gone but PS3 works - but if hard drive was trashed in the first place you've effectively already lost your data so formatting means you're not actually getting rid of your game saves etc.

Being a Sony fanboy, I think 2.40/2.41 sucks. All the fuss over in-game xmb and trophies, and you can't do anything useful with it except in-game messaging. The trophies feel so generic too, but I'm not an achievement whore anyways.

Only niggle I found (updating from 2.40 to 2.41) was that my PSN Avatar had defaulted and stuck to the generic square smiley faced one. Simple to fix, just had to re-apply it in the PSN < Account Management < Profile section and it was back to normal. So far no problems (other than having to scroll through 15+ pages of avatars to find mine again). Noticed they added a new feature (for the lack of not noticing before probably) when updating firmware that asks you if you would like the system to auto shutdown when it's done and as far as I can tell it auto installs (again may have done before but for the lack of not noticing) when the download completes.

ughh still weak! I had 2.40 and now have 2.41 and I see no difference if anything in game xmb is slower when I play SSHD and my friggin trophy icon is STILL a ? WTF? Thank god I still have a year of XBL, maby by then I can do half the stuff on PSN I can do on XBL. Really doesnt matter though complete in game xmb or not the facts still remain- No one has a headset & if they do they A. dont talk B. make stupid sounds, then trophies are going to be on a fraction of the ps3 library. I think its safe to say that the psn is permanently gimped for this gen- none of the 10 people I know w/ ps3s cared when I told them this update is coming nor do they ever plan on buying headsets. I am just giving up, I planned to retire my xbl account when it was up but sadly the xbox is the king when it comes to online. Its funny, I was expecting PSN to have less people w/ headsets but the people who did were older/mature nope! that fraction of people who have mics are worse than the worst on xbl. Im salty as hell, I love everything about the ps3 opposed to the 360 except the online which is a nice chunk of my gaming.

@Garo: It's a method claim. You can achieve the same functionality as long you have a different way of doing it. Usually, companies would try to make the patent application (i.e. claims) as broad as possible to try to cover a multitude of possibilities. Regardless, Sony can do it as long as they found their own way of doing it.
