Don't Expect Bungie's 'Announcement' At PAX
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 12:40 PM on July 25, 2008
When Bungie's plans to announce their new game went tits-up at E3 last week, it meant they'd have to save it, and go announce it at the next big event. That big event obviously wasn't Comic-Con, so a quick look on the calendar reveals...oh, could it be PAX, which kicks off on August 29? No, silly. Bungie have issued the following statement on their website:
For the record, we have no plans to make any big announcements or huge reveals at PAX this year. While we will have some Halo 3 multiplayer stuff for you to check out, this is not going to be the "big announcement" many of our fans are clamouring for. Rest assured that when the time is right, we will be making announcements and talking about the stuff we're currently working on. At the moment we do have three distinct projects underway within Bungie - some familiar, some not. Some on a closer horizon, some quite far off.
Three projects, at least one of them a Halo project, noted, thanks. Oh, and for the disappointed, just because they're keeping mum at PAX doesn't mean they can't announce anything at Leipzig, which starts August 20.

@Your-Friendly-Neighborhood-Atheist: I think the big deal with THIS delay is that unlike a dev delay, no one knows why this one was made. As you said, at least you know with a dev delay they are putting more work into the product.
No one really knows what is going on behind the scenes with this delay though. I think that is why everyone is making such a big deal out of it.

I am sure that whatever Bungie announces, it will be brilliant. I don't know why people trip about delays. Especially when it is a development delay, it just means they are putting more quality into the product. Of course that is not the case here but it needed to be said.
There are tons of great games to enjoy right now. Be happy with what you currently have right now and have some patience. I can't even catch up to my back log of un-played games.

@Your-Friendly-Neighborhood-Atheist: I'm sure Sony would be happy to have those games.
In fact, I'd love to see Bungie games go multiplatform, so that the usual Bungie/Halo bashing might die down.
On the other hand, you should shut up.

I hope that the relationship between MS and Bungie stays strong. This news has started to worry me. I would hate to see Bungie making games on any of those Sony platforms

I remember stating in a comment last week that it was pretty presumptuous of Kotaku to assume that the E3 announcement was Halo related, and was flamed to hell for it.
Finally, it's Seiru's turn to laugh!
Ha ha ha ha!

I want to see what crazy stuff they come up with to make the most of their newfound freedom. Will they branch out to other genres? Hopefully, whatever these other projects are, they keep local cooperative play as high a priority as they've made it for the Halo series. Really looking forward to any announcement from them.

* Opens up calender and X's off E3 week and circles Comic-Con *
"We have nothing to announce today"
* X's off Comic-Con and circles PAX *
"we have no plans to make any big announcements or huge reveals at PAX this year"
* X's off PAX and circles Leipzig *
I hope they announce this think thing soon. I am running out of ink.

@Tyrannical:
Touche sir. Though they have said that one of their projects is very near, which you know, maybe in Bungie world is a year and a half. Tear...

Oh well, it's not like an official announcement makes Nov '09 come any quicker.

@STARSBarry:
lol... I'm sure Bungie will make an announcement about Ensemble studio's Halo Wars.
Hopefully they'll also tell us about how Gears of war 2's online component will handle host advantage issues?
Or When MGS5 will be releasing?

@STARSBarry: Halo Wars isn't a Bungie project. You'll need to talk to Ensemble and MS.

would it be naive of me to think that bungie might start their own "ubi-days"-type event? Certainly not a annual thing, but maybe something that would help create some fanfare in the reveal of three new projects?

Seems like a perfect strategy for them. Use Halo to get the revenue stream, using it to fund a potentially risky but amazing and innovative (I hope) new IP. With a dude with a plunger.

Bungie has been really disappointing lately,
they say they're independent and make a lot of noise about, then they act like Microsoft's puppies

I bet this game is going to focus on one of the maintenance crew on the pillar of autumn. It'll show the entire Halo series through the eyes of an average joe. Think Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead meets Halo.

Despite whatever eased into the ether regarding what we're working on at Bungie, speculative hunches and guesswork certainly don't tell the full tale. I'd go so far as to say these ramblings are barely even a Prologue, not even a Foreword to the storybook we're putting together. Rest assured, there are multiple machinations afoot at Bungie, one is so close you can feel its familiar warmth on your cheek while you sleep; another so far off and foreign that like a faint star in deep space, you can only look to the heavens as its light speeds ever closer.
Lo, there is still another
