I filed Marvel vs. Capcom games in the same lot as Square Enix/Disney's "Kingdom Hearts" franchise because the concept and subsequent popularity disturbed me. If I want to play a fighting game, well then it's gotta be Street Fighter 2. Feel the urge to read comics, yeah, you sorta get the basic idea. Once you start meshing fictional universes for profit nothing feels 'sacred' anymore, its integrity is being butchered by the masses.

This is good. Marvel vs Capcom always was great. I don't know why but their roster kinda "fits" for such a game. Too bad they can't put Batman in it as well, since that's the only (and best of all) good superhero in the DC universe. Including his villains of course. Yea I said it, DC sucks except for Batman and related :P

Which is why I won't be picking up MK vs DC, probably. Maybe for cheap because of Batman and Joker. Maybe. It really doesn't do anything for me to have Superman or Green Lantern in a fighting game, sorry.

The title they're referring to is the Tatsunoko vs Capcom game. They're implying that it's relatively easy to replace the characters with Marvel's. The core gameplay can remain untouched. Which if you think about it is true. Though I highly doubt Capcom would undermine the impending release of SFIV with another fighting game...

I'd really like to see this-- Marvel is definitely more my thing than DC, and if they really blew out the roster-- went totally nuts with loads and loads of characters, I'd be in like Flynn. I like fighting games, but I rarely really "get into" them. MvC2 (on DC of course) did it for me, though, and I would love to see a third. HD hand-drawn over-the-top sprites ftw.

And to whoever mentioned balancing issues, I really hope they don't steamroll everyone for balance's sake. When you have 60-some characters, balance is less necessary, just play with similar tier fighters if you're that serious about it. It wouldn't even make sense logically for the whole variety of characters to be balanced - they wouldn't be themselves anymore.

Besides, half the fun was getting good enough to beat your friends with your team of Roll, Servbot, and Sonson. Or rapidly exchanging Servbot for Colossus in the middle of a fight.

The main reason I love MvsC games is because its one of the only games that does not butcher the characters like all the other Comic book games seem to. I am salivating over the idea of this game. Mainly cuz I need my Gambit/Omega Red team fix, and this is the only place I can do it.

Oh, and if they use the SF4/TvC engine (I assume they are similar, because their base does look alike) I would be all over this.

Not a fan of this series, but I know it does have its followers. & Marvel need to sort their act out, gaming wise. MK vs DC is looking fun, & DCUO is getting a lot of attention right now. Marvel dropped the ball (as did MS) not getting Marvel Universe Online off the ground, & Ultimate alliance 2 is look vanilla at best, at the moment. & don't get me started on the Hulk & iron man movie games.

People, please, read the article before demanding the game to be in 2D. The game this rumored MvC3 is supposed to be based on, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, is in 3D. Not to mention that 2D would be more expensive and riskier for Capcom as they'd have to redraw all the sprites if it were to be in HD resolution. Look how much time and money it's taken to produce SF2 HD Remix - it would take even longer to make a 2D high-def version of an MvC game, especially when MvC2 had 56 characters. 2D will *not* happen.

Is it that hard for you folks to read and/or be realistic about this?

MvC3 would/will be great, but will they "fix" the utter brokenness that is Cable/Storm/Sentinel/Magneto? MvC2 at highest level play degenerates mostly into teams comprised of these four people. (Not saying most other fighters aren't like this, but MvC2 is really extreme)

Personally, I hope they don't change it. If they do, some people might stick with MvC2 (I play Smash, I know how it is for developers to screw up a fighter).

As far as I thought, Marvel signed the license over to Activision and EA. I was pretty sure we couldn't see a new MvC game until that was sorted, and I didn't think it was going to really happen at all. I think it'd be great if they could fix the super brokenness of MvC, but still keep the wild, hyper fighting. Capcom should go back to making awesome Marvel games like X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, Marvel Super Heroes, and pick up Acclaim and LJN classics like Spider-Man and Venom: Separation Anxiety and Spider-Man and X-Men: Arcade's Revenge.

On a somewhat weird note, I was describing MK vs DC to my girlfriend and I called it "Mortal Kombat vs Dreamcast". Dreamcast on the brain lately!

While it's very cool, and I would buy it in a heartbeat, I really think it just would be a rehash.

A difficulty with fighting games is that they can't let go of the core cast, and MvC has probably the largest core cast of any fighting game. It's not like they could pass on wolverine, spiderman, captain america, or gambit to add new characters without alienating fans, and of course, ryu.

They can't really alter them that much either. So chances are you'd see maybe 60% or higher of the fighters being the same people we've played over and over again. It would be cool as having a definitive edition of the game, but I'd bet actual innovation would be limited to popping in a few new capcom characters like dante.

Its too bad because of licensing issues, but a Capcom vs Anime would be an awesome game.

When you crossover anything into another medium and find it necessary to change the story, isn't that the same as saying nothing is sacred anymore? It sounds like you don't like games based off of comics and movies, movies based off of games and comics, or comics based off of movies and games because the universes get flipped.

Things to avoid:
-Comic book and game crossovers, such as the titles in question here
-Video game crossovers, such as Capcom vs. SNK (despite the second one's being amazing) and Namco vs. Capcom
-Revenge of Shinobi, with the faux Spider-Man appearance and the uncredited Batman
-Super Smash Bros. Brawl
-Metal Gear Solid, with its meta-references to other Kojima works

If they've got it again, they could probably make people just as happy releasing MvC2 on PSN/XBLA (as Trowble (XBL/PSN) mentioned) instead of making a 3D sequel. Though, that could be pretty sweet if done well.

Didn't Capcom say they wanted to get Tatsunoko vs. Capcom released in the US, and aren't they even bringing it to Evo for location testing? I doubt they would bother doing that for a game they don't intend to ever sell.

I don't think it would be impossible to get the licenses at all: with the sole exception of Ken from Gatchaman--which was released many ways by many different people and whose license was last in the hands of the dying ADV Films, which might give some trouble -- these characters are both total unknowns in North America and all in the hands of Tatsunoko. This is very different from a Super Robot Wars situation, where the Western rights to many of the characters are in the hands of a bunch of small video companies that don't want to play nice with each other.

As for MVC3, I'm sure the new game would be popular and do well, but nobody can ever replace MVC2 for the hardcore players. That game is so broken it transcends itself and becomes beautiful.

This was the reason that I had hoped that MK vs. DC would sell very well. Now that MK/DC actually looks enjoyable, I'm hoping that will give Capcom the incentive to give us what we've waited for for so long...a brand new Buster Bros!!...I mean, Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Yeah, that's what I meant. :-P

If they released MvC2 in HD and crossed out the "2" to write "3" I would still buy the game day one at full price. Possibly two in order to keep one sealed. The Spiedy games have done great for the most part MUA 1 was great and MUA2 looks great to.
