Alan Wake To Appear At TGS For Sure (Maybe)
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:20 PM on July 19, 2008
Remedy's Alan Wake was noticeably absent at E3 2008, a void left even more dark and encompassing by the inclusion of titles like You're In The Movies. Fear not, fans of mysterious mysteries, as the Xbox 360 and Windows Vista title is going to make its next public appearance at Tokyo Game Show at the latest, according to one web site.
A Windows branded contest — one that actually dates back to March of last year(!) — tells us that we'll be seeing Alan Wake in Tokyo, at least in trailer form. It's entirely possible that we'll see the title as Games Convention, PAX or some other big gaming get together. But for now, pencil in a date with Mr. Wake for October. That's pencil, not pen.
"WOW" Be A Face In The Game [Microsoft - thanks, SS!]

I hope to see a Vista DX10.5 version. Even if it won't affect gameplay seeing stuff like Stalker Clear Skies with haze wind effects was pretty wicked.

Alan Wake was one of those launch titles that supposedly was to be the Microsoft's best. Now with it staying in limbo for so long, who knows how the game will be. Hopefully the game won't become another Alone in the Dark.

Heh. "Thanks for stopping by. The Windows Vista "Wow" Prize Draw closed on 30th March 2007." Are you sure this wasn't for the 2007 TGS and ended up not appearing? Seems kinda weird.

@KingBroly: Well, the developers probably understand that a larger portion of internet-going American gamers follow TGS just as much as E3, so they figured it wouldn't really matter. And of course they probably didn't have anything ready for E3.

@snakepliskin: Hahahah, so true... It would explode because my self detonation would resonate through my computer to Kotaku and to the pictures of TGS retroactively, so they all were destroyed at the same time they were taken...
Team Ico has the chance to rule TGS... I hope Sony learns how to be ruthless.

But was it really dismal? I agree with you of course, but they weren't courting US. They were courting soccer moms, casual "gamers", and grand parents. "Looks at us. We're crazy, cool, playing video games....although we aren't really playing a game with no real purpose or meaning (wii music)."

@ch777p: I think skies of arcadia will show up at tgs but more likely than not as a wii game. In fact i think nintendo will show up big at tgs after their dismal e3.

I really, really hope this game lives up to...
My imagination?
I'm not sure what it is about this game that's had me exciting for so long when there's so little that's been showed over time...
Interesting concept, that's for sure. I just hope it doesn't lose to a long development cycle and a 'wow' factor that may have subsided over time.
Hoping it will be like the first Fable - not in terms of gameplay (of course), but in that - being in development for so long, while maybe not living up to the hype, still manages to provivde a solid, entertaining experience.

@snakepliskin:
Maybe, but I really doubt it. Every title they showed, even the 1 or 2 DS titles, were excessively casual. Hell, they even re released (only big N fan boys will argue otherwise)the GC(or was it the DS version) Animal Crossing and just added stuff into in. COME ON! Nintendo is just going to slowly factor hardcore gamers out entirely at one point. Third party devs are going to end up being the only ones who even have a chance, and on the Wii....why would they care either?
Sammo21
snakepliskin
Posted 2:48 PM 19/7/08
@Sammo21: I think it was dismal only because nintendo just showed up for the sake of showing up. I think they're holding all their cards for tgs and that left nothing for e3.

You know, this game is SOOOOO huge and ... I don't know why. We know so very LITTLE about it, so I guess its completely based on the little we've seen and Remedy's reputation.

I hope they announce it, show some footage and then release the fucking thing a month later. I am sick of seeing games 5 years before they are released. Next will be given stories of a dream the developer had just last night.
How about developers get 90% done and then announce. This way I don't get pissed off when a game is delayed 2 years with no release in sight. The initial excitement would turn into direct sales.
The problem with E3 this year was almost every game we have known about since E3 2005. Boring.

This game was one of the reasons I had my eye on the 360 in the first place, so I can not wait to see some more solid details surrounding it. It has such a great atmosphere, and I have a lot of faith in Remedy. I'm still skeptical that it's going to get released even within the next year, or maybe even at all, but I know that Microsoft has poured a lot of money and time into this along with Remedy, so let's hope something good comes of it.
