But hopefully this game will be good. Free Radical's history isn't that of a brilliant developer, but they're talented enough-- the TimeSplitters games occasionally rose to almost-greatness, and were generally fairly competent, but Haze was an utter abomination. They've never really been farmed this kind of property, though. Got to think LucasArts is giving these guys free reign to 'reinvent' Battlefront as they see the franchise, because I can't see any other reason why Free Radical would've been picked to head this project. I'm very wary about this one...

Can't figure Free Radical would be doing anything more than the 360 and PS3 versions, though. Some chop-shop developers are probably getting the task of churning out the other versions.

They were responsible for 4 of my favourite games last gen Timesplitters 1-3 and Second Sight (underrated Gem) and I forgive them for haze.

What should have been added was, did the internal changes and massive layoffs cut comissions short or was it just handed to FR before the Haze fiasco. Lucasarts never dumped the Battlefront series since it was never a game made by them. Lucasarts were just a publisher and it was Pandemic who designed and developed the game from the ground up (both I & II). Now the third one will be a Free Radical game. Lucasarts just sell the game and offer the rights to the Star Wars universe, and have nothing to do with the development ...

Battlefront 1 was great, 2 to a lesser extent - Only because the Jet Trooper's Commando Pistols overheated. If they bring them back, and the pistols are God mode again, that's reason enough to buy it.

Battlefront is an amazing game. I remember being a master at destroying the other team. I remember I used to finish with 65 kills in first place and number two was 24. I was hardcore. My only problem now is the developers of Haze are making it. I think their Goldeneye days are over. Please bring back Pandemic!

It'll allow you to save on processing power while maintaining bold visuals, increase your sales to the young crowd, and fulfill my greatest battlefront wish, which I'm sure is of the greatest concern to free radical. Wait, why am I adressing free radical through kotaku? It's not like they read this site.

Anyway, in a perfect world the Battlefront games could use some other cool upgrades too.
Bigger levels, including massive city levels for siege
Drop ships that land guys into command posts (rather than having them magically spawn)
A new storyline with some new locales (Clone wars please)
Squad based AI
Bigger and better space battles, and the option for multiple command ships.
Improved galactic conquest.
New galactic conquest modes (chess!)
For the love of Pete cell shade the wii version!

I hope the game turns out good, because Pandemic did a GREAT job with the other two. BFII did die rather fast on the PC though... maybe thats why they decided not to do a PC version this time around.

You also have to take into account PC hardware. Games like WoW and the Sims have sold crazy amounts at least in part because most PCs can run them. You can't run Unreal Tournament III or Call of Duty 4 on just any PC, but any 360 or PS3 can run them.

And they aren't losing money. They just aren't makign as much as they would like. Crysis broke 1 million copies ... at $50/game ... minus several million for production and a modest marketing budget ... is still multi-million dollar profit.

I am very torn on this. If the PS360 versions are much better than the PSP and Wii versions (very likely), this could be the game that finally pushes me to buy one of those systems. But if Pandemic is not working on it, I am very skeptical.

This is from the now crappy developer who brought us the piss poor nothing great about it Haze.

(just a side note, the Battlefront series took a lot of inspiration from Panedemic's earlier game Battlezone I & II, and those two games also ROCKED!)
