Animal Crossing Wii At E3 Already Confirmed?
If Nintendo reveals the Wii iteration of Animal Crossing, we shan't use a single exclamation point in our liveblog upon the announcement. We already know that Nintendo of Japan has tentatively dated the game for a 2008 release at home and just assume that Nintendo of America will follow suit. According to the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine, it sounds like the announcement has already happened.
Tom East, online editor for ONM, writes on his blog that "those of you who have read the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine should already know that Animal Crossing Wii will be unveiled at the conference". QED, I guess.
Since we've yet to see any ONM subscribers excitedly spill the details from the mag online — if there are any details, that is, outside of the brief Animal Crossing Wii mention we've already seen — we're going to hold tight on this almost-confirmation. But yeah, Animal Crossing Wii. We'll be shocked if it doesn't come up next Tuesday.

I played the first one obsessively.
Second one? I got a good 20 hours in on it. It was kinda hard to get anymore with those damned friend codes (and not having many friends who had the game... or a DS, for that matter).
I really wish Nintendo gave you the option to go online with random people. It kills this game to not have that option, especially when all 3 of my roomates aren't gamers.

Waits for starfox......The 2 hardcore games are gonna be Starfox and Kid Icarus......and this piece of garbage animal crossing........Looks boring....and looks childish Im a action gammer (core gamer) Not a little child who wants to clean up houses and do chores.....Not looking forward to this at all!
and Zelda people its not going to be demo or pics...reggie even said so himself back in march Reggie Said "Comon We just had a zelda and mario game" Newsperson "Then what is it?" Reggie said "Its not that hard,we have nothing up or sleeves" Newsperson "Is it a new Donkey kong Reggie said "Dont Even get me started there"
Sothe big 3 is Starfox,Kid Icarus,And Animal Boring Peeps *yawns*
Thepower109
What's with all the animal crossing hating? Its fun, cute and the closest we'll ever get to a utopian society (besides the fact that its all based around cramming as much shit into one room as you can, but what's life without consumerism?. I'm just hoping Nintendo takes an example of Bioshock. how great would it be to see Tom Nook hopped up on plasmids ranting about how were all slaves forced to pick fruit and fish for the all mighty Bell.
jfuzz
Hopefully they get rid of all of that tedious train travel and saving bullshit with Resetti. Kids just don't get why they have to spend 20 minutes listening to some mole's bullshit just because mom (or little Billy) turned off the GameCube.
mariospants
Yeah, I personally don't GET Animal Crossing.
I find it extremely dull. Bought both GC and DS versions to try to get into it.
In real life I own a house with a huge garden, I have a mortgage and chores.
I don't really want to play a virtual version of this.
I want escapism.
krisb
Yay! I can't wait to get back to my town! I'm hoping for even more stuff. And if they make it where I can transfer my metroids from AC:WW to AC:Wii, I'll be the happiest ferret in all the land.
Salen
I really can't wait to visit Tom Nook again...
Handbanana37
I'm not sure if I'm willing to start fro scratch after all that time that I put into Wild World.
TF2Soldier914
I always forget about my town. Then it looks like a goddamn ghost town when I come back a month later, full of weeds and everyone asking me how I rose from the dead. At which point I convince them I'm Jesus. Soon I'm an animal cult leader and whip out the Dixie cups and anti-freeze.
J0hnny-Kickass
Cool. I played the last two for 8-12 months on average... so I will probably have to pick up the Wii version. Not unexpected, but I'm happy about it.
2NinjasTapedTogether
I <3 Animal Crossing, and will play it on Wii, especially now that I live with my girlfriend in an apartment. That is all.

@Foxstar Sixtail: Everyone can and I guarantee WILL state their opinion about something. I don't enjoy the game, I was saying, I hope they work on something else like STARFOX or a new Super Metroid.
@Mact: I don't like the character design. Is that bad of me to, maybe re-instate my previous statement after people didn't agree with me. I don't care if you don't agree with me. I don't care if you don't like my opinion. But, when I hate character design... I really hate it. Character design is a good argument. They bore me. If I can't like characters in a game, I have a hard time liking the damn thing. I WILL get bored. I'd like to see decent design, online play (yeah right), LARGE cities. This game needs something different, not the same game every time. I never said the game was for kids. I said it was childish; there is a difference. I can't play and be expected to pay full price for a game I don't enjoy. If supposedly this game wasn't for children, that would make me part of the target audience. Therefore, I have every right to not enjoy a game, express my opinion, and essentially critique the game. It was supposedly made for people like me, (the target audience) so I should be able to say what I want. I respect that SO MANY people enjoy this game. I am just someone who doesn't.
The only way I would like this game is something Mr. Fap Fap (lol) said. The idea of a massive online community would kick ass.
AND one last thing.
Crash McCloud said:
"Thia might be news to you but it's A KIDS GAME."
Tell him your opinion. I never said it was a kids game. I said it was childish.

@UCB-Disco: "There* not THAT dumb, people."

Oh, the irony. Kind of. Not really.

@Foxstar Sixtail:
"Zelda's at least one more full year away, there's no way in hell a new Zelda is going to show it's face before 2009."
I'll betcha a dollar on PayPal that Retro's Zelda game shows up.
Mr. Fap☆Fap!
@BradOFarrell:
I'll say 'yes' to the city thing.
Not huge, mind you, but something.
Little expansions.
Like on the GCN where after getting a certain number of people to move in, you could put in a new bridge. That got me kind of excited, but that ended up being it.
I'd like to see something more come out of keeping neighbors in town. It'd be nice to see them expand their own homes.
I'd also like to see the one home for each player concept return. It's hard sharing one home, no matter how expansive, and sharing it with siblings is a little rough.
While I enjoy Wild World, it was more or less the same thing with slight expansions. Regathering items was a chore this time around. Which brings up another matter: they need more ways to obtain items.
Mact
@udiie:
Cue neon irony signs.
Mact
@udiie:
The target audience for Animal Crossing isn't little kids. You also essentially mentioned the same thing three times (design, character design, and characters being 'pathetically' simple). Not that that is a good argument against a game in the first place.
Mact
@NeVeRMoRe666:
Well, the GCN version was more than worth it if you take in the fact that at least ten NES games were crammed into it. At $5 a pop now, it was well worth my buck.
Mact
@BPMν:
For me, it wasn't so much an issue with not having real life holidays, but the fact that it made playing during different times of the year far less exciting. The real problem for me is that they took out all the fun holidays but then failed to add in enough fake ones to take their place. The ones that were added were more or less reduced to visiting the mayor on that day.
For instance, they could have a founder's day holiday that mimicked the Thanksgiving and just put it in some other day of the year. Have a 'Couple's Day' in place of Valentine's and stick it in August. Stuff like that.
I did quite enjoy the real life holidays though, but I wouldn't have minded their absence as I did had they filled in the hole properly.
Mact
@hrabbit:Zelda's at least one more full year away, there's no way in hell a new Zelda is going to show it's face before 2009.
@udiie:Cool you don't enjoy the game. Good for you. So you won't be posting any more in any future AC posts on here? Because you don't need to restate your points.
@Shiryu:Dude, you are so getting your hopes up only to have them dashed. I'm warning you right now, none of those games will show up before E3 2009.
@udiie:Maybe it's not the design, but the fact that it's not for you?
@BPMν:It's almost better to leave 'real' hoildays out instead of running the risk of offending SOMEONE who will raise a stink and maybe even a lawsuit if their hoilday is not in the game.
Foxstar Sixtail
The is an awesome picture.
M
again, i lost an entire season of my life to AC on the gamecube, mostly just fishing to pay debts, then bug-chasing. i strangely look forward to this one, cant wait - again, even nintendo's worst online efforts will work better for this one than most titles. its what was missing last time.
TheIrishNinja
I will be blown away when they introduce USB HD capability. You hear me Nintendo? I WILL BE BLOWN AWAY. DO IT.
Thanks!
Saxboy
If you have roommates (er, or a family, I guess), this game can provide all of you hours of entertainment. It's a game that is best played in small increments over the course of months, though if you're like me, you'll burn through everything there is to do in a couple weeks and get frustrated. Hopefully, online play will help keep things interesting.
thesycophant
*is still waiting for a zelda announcement at e3* :3
hrabbit
I love AC and got a lot of my family into it. I just hope it's not another rehash of the 64 version. WiWo was such a dissapointment when I found out it wasn't a new game. Time for a new world guys. I won't be buying it otherwise.
Aflack: Likes slushies
I've been playing for the past 2 1/2 years and only missed 9 or so days. When the Wii version comes out (and Spore), I will gain close to 725 lbs and never leave my house.
I. Can't. Wait.
waterhand
I have the mag. There are no details... >__>
Just that hint.
fadecy
I stopped playing because Tom Nook started to break my character's knee caps whenever his mortgage payment wasn't on time. I hope they remove that feature in this version.
ThaiGrocer
Hooray!
I love Animal Crossing, and how bizarre the characters can be (they say some really strange things). Plus, its cute.
And while I do enjoy it muchly, its an on/off thing for me. I'll play it for a bit, not visit it again for a few weeks/months, then I'll hear about my boyfriend playing it or something like that, so I start playing again...
I look forward to seeing what they do with it on the Wii. I hope there are lots of new things and suprises!
.em.
@Ryumeka:
Great ideas. I like 'em both.
BPMν
@BPMν: Why not include some foreign characters? Several animals who 'support' holidays like Hannukah. They can even send invites to the rest of the animals like "Come to my Hannukah party! Whatever date it is!" They can even include little information texts too.
I'd like animal relationships to be upped too. Not as far as dates (we have enough fanfics and images...) but I'd like animals to maybe ask me to come fishing for an hour.
Ryumeka
Animal Crossing is incredibly addicting.
BobTheChainsaw
The cats out of the bag. Lets see if this cat will be better than the DS other than more items, bigger map and limited online.
mikes_stalker
@NeVeRMoRe666: Yeah, a game where the whole point is to simulate a slow quiet life in a small town should be expanded to BUSY LIFE IN THE BIG CITY in the sequel, and also you should get a SWORD and fight DEMONS, and it'd be cool if there was a hot chick sidekick with giant tits and TWO guns.
BradOFarrell
No doubt they will bring out a new Animal Crossing Wii. My other prediction is that it will be the same exact game for the 4th time now with nothing new but a new control scheme.
I'm not an Animal Crossing hater I just felt a little burned buying AC:WW after playing AC for the GCN.
iamspoo
I will be monitering those exclamation points, McWhertor.
Green-clad Gamer Dude
@immikeulate: I believe that is blasphemy good sir! Man, I love animal crossing so much. It doesn't help that I'm OCD. 1,2,3. That im OCD. 1,2,3. OCD.
Gfunksnow
@BPMν:
And they shall call it...
Animal Crossing: Christmachannukwanzamuertanabata4 Edition.
I don't like Animal Crossing. I'm one of those folks who doesn't get it. But I do love the idea of making it a huge multicultural online affair like that.
Mr. Fap☆Fap!
@Ryumeka:
Yeah, that was the biggest disappointment with Wild World. I kinda understand why they did so, so that the DS version would be identical for all regions (unlike the GCN version which varied a bit, due to each region's local holidays), thus removing any issues with connecting with international friends (although, the JP version could only connect with the JP version...).
But the made-up holidays, for the most part, blew. I mean, Yay Day? Ugh.
Here's an idea, Nintendo: not less holidays, MORE holidays! Make a multicultural affair! In one game you can celebrate and learn about the Fourth of July, Tanabata Festival, Dia de los Muertos, Christmas, Channukah, Kwanzaa, etc.
It doesn't hurt to learn about another culture's special days. Because knowledge is power!
BPMν
@DukeOfPwn: Heh, I would do the same thing in Animal Crossing. It got to the point where every villager in town was wearing one of my offensive shirts.
I was already expecting Animal Crossing Wii to be "revealed" at E3. I do enjoy the series, especially whenever I hang out in AC with one of my friends from Canada. But I can see why other people don't like it, or just couldn't get into it.
Mazakona
Wow, I can't believe the AC hate.
I've been playing ACWW for the DS everyday since it game out, and before that the original on GCN.
I will play this probably EVERYDAY until FOREVER.
Terance: All you have to First question.
i hope they bring some cool online features to this, i want them to make this a flagship online game.....then again it is nintendo
mbeck
@DukeOfPwn: One thing I did enjoy... LOL.
udiie
@Crash McCloud: I never said it was news to me... I was just saying that I don't enjoy the game. I personally hope for a new Metroid game for the ds, not an fps metroid either. And a new starfox for the Wii, because it would let me dust that piece of shit off. I haven't touched the damn thing for at least a year.
udiie
I loved making offensive T-shirt designs at Mabel's. It was even funnier to see some of my town's residents buy the shirts!
DukeOfPwn
My mom, who is over 50 and was a gamecube AC addict, will be thrilled.
Calandrind
@ everyone who doesn't 'get' the animal crossing phenomenon: I think it helps to either be 10 years old, or a burned-out, cynical husk of a human being like me. If you still haven't seen the last of your dreams being crushed out like a cigarette in an ashtray full of phlegm and broken glass, it's probably a little harder to appreciate the sort of return to childhood that Animal Crossing delivers. What the series does well is recapture the carefree joy of running around on a long summer day, catching bugs and shooting down spaceships just like those forgotten days when school was out and your only job was to catch fish to pay off the racoon that built your house.
Those were the days.
wanion
I had my fill of doing chores for people on the gamecube version. I won't be making that mistake again.
Wolfers
Eugh. I detest ONM UK.
On the AC front, there had better be some decent features to secure a purchase. I felt ACDS was subpar when compared to the GC iteration. I really missed the real life holidays.
Ryumeka
I remember seeing ACWii confirmed with Kirby Wii months ago..
I don't see what's so surprising about this..
CockroachMan
Animal crossing never really sucked me in. I think it was the fact that everything was already done by my siblings by the time I got home, and the fact they'd purposely set the internal clock ahead by one day, at least three or four times a day just to move the game along. I don't play for three days, and all of a sudden my house is filled with freakin' spiders.
trogam
@udiie: Thia might be news to you but it's A KIDS GAME
Crash McCloud
This better not be the "hardcore " game Nintendo was talking about.
Netnavi
ACWii= instant buy. I love AC.
GiantEnemyCrab
This game was announced in the Nintendo Wii's manual. Seriously.
Timooo
Oh god no! Stay away from Animal Crossing, IT CONSUMES YOUR LIFE!
Placentasaurus
Animal Crossing is just ageless. My twenty something friends and I all played the DS one regularly for months.
CarsonB
@TaggarT6: I'm betting the DS Animal Crossing game thats already out will probably have some kind of connectivity.
Jayl3w
@excel_excel: Well, the game is essentially quite childish (humor, design, character models, the character speech --- makes me shudder, target audience, etc.). It's simple, repetitive actions that you can do over and over and over again and it always seems the same. I just don't enjoy it. The characters are so pathetically simple.@NeVeRMoRe666: I completely agree with you. I also own the GC and DS versions, but I've never really got into it. It can't keep my attention.
udiie
I'm not a AC fan, but I think a Wii version will be huge since it will most likely take advantage of the wii's online and DS connectivity.
With that said, I'd expect a DS AC game sometime next year that connects to the Wii version.
TaggarT6
Living with several other people who all love to play Animal Crossing, this is exciting news. I await for the chance to plant pitfalls all over town, send hate mail to my housemates and teach townies swear words.
AdmiralRupert
Reason # 250,000 why E3 is pointless.
mva5580
I'm very much excited for this. Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo's best franchises. I just hope it's being released because they've thought of really interesting new stuff to do with it, and not just because Nintendo realised they need bust out another surefire sales bonanza. I was disappointed in Wild World because it really didn't add much to the formula, semi-decent online play aside.
Nintendo, give us some excellent upgrades for this franchise, and we'll be pleased as punch. Oh, and a new Pilotwings, please.
wild homes gets retconned!
@Shiryu:
Dream harder! DREAM HARDER!!!
AndrewG009
This will be cool, pls be some sort of online.
BrotherNick
I'm not quite getting the hate goin' on here... Animal Crossing in one just one step below WoW on the video-crack ladder. :P
Anyway, I've pretty much "known" AC would be shown at E3 forever, it's just so obvious. I'm just hoping they drop the N64 look, and go with cel shading.
Primed
Now, if only F-Zero/Pilowtings/Starfox also show up...
Please, please, let me dream...
Shiryu
I can't wait for all the videos, the news means something to me, but not as much as gameplay and cinematics! :)
AndrewG009
Don't underestimate Animal Crossing's power to sell hardware (as if the Wii had a problem with that). All those 'virtual world' junkies that populate Habbo Hotel or play offline with something like the Sims eat it up. ACWW was how I got my girlfriend to get a DS. Now she's further in GTA4 than I am.
Tonx
Animal Crossing on the Gamecube was entertaining... for awhile. But, sadly, the game does get quickly as dull as day-today chores in real life do, and thats what it ends up being: a chore.
Not that I can't see why people still like it, it just doesn't have a constant appeal to me. It'd be interesting to see what they do with the Wii's controls with the game, though.
Jayl3w
I actually enjoyed AC for the gamecube, yet...I don't own a Wii... : /
Hobb3z
@udiie: Same, I think its the rather simplistic design of the game. You just collect stuff and lots of it. Plus the town really isn't all that big. Hopefully this new reiteration will be much larger in scope and will not only be worth my money but my attention for more than two weeks.
Don't get me wrong, I have it for GC and the DS, but its the same game over and over. Maybe if they had more things happening in the game. But I know alot of people who love it so...maybe its something I'm missing out on.
NeVeRMoRe666
It's inevitable though, right? It's not like Nintendo can deny the announcement of such a franchise like Animal Crossing for the Wii in at least the next 6 months or so. That's more money in the bank for Nintendo.
There not THAT dumb, people.

Considering that my mom stole my Gamecube just to play the first one, I don't think that I will be getting this one.

@udiie: and the mature awesome writing is lost on you of course!
oh my fragile heart be still....this is the best news....EVER!!

"Since we've yet to see any ONM subscribers excitedly spill the details from the mag"
Actually, their teaser for next month's issue has been making the rounds on the web for a few days. Heck, it might have even been posted here.
Espiox
This is why E3 sucks now. Theres going to be no suprises, everything is leaked early now. Damn internets.
P.S. Animal Crossing is trash anyway!
immikeulate
Animal Crossing gets old fast for me. I think its the childish character design.
udiie
