Double Fine: 'Brutal Legend Is Fine'
Posted by Leigh Alexander at 5:20 AM on July 30, 2008
While fans wonder en masse about the fate of Brütal Legend amid the new Activision Blizzard's worrying talk of "reviewing our options" and "improving efficiency", developer Double Fine's Tim Schafer has been fretting over his South Beach diet and finding a weevil in his Kashi oatmeal.
In the latest post on Double Fine's site, though, Schafer admits people have been hounding him for more details — and he complies, providing a full-size closeup of the dead weevil. Hover over the image with the mouse, though, and get the answer to the question we really want to know:
"Brütal Legend is fine", says a simple sentence.
We've contacted Double Fine in the hopes of gaining more details, and will update with any comment we receive.

Even if I love him, we need to stop Tim Schafer's bug killing rampage! D:

Wouldn't it be ironic if both of these games (Ghostbusters and Brutal Legend) were both picked up by EA or Ubisoft and made boat loads of cash?!
I really don't get Activision's strategy here. Not sure with Brutal Legend but the GB game were getting a lot of good previews and press coverage.

I like the way he did that.
A very clever way to assure his fans that everything is all right (except the weevil).

For the love of God, THANK YOU! Brutal Legend is one of the few games this year I was looking forward to the most.

YOU'RE ALL SICK BASTARDS!
Talking about a game when my weevil is in the hands of that murderer!
I'll have him sued! And during Shark Week too!

@AceKicker: Exactly. Schafer answers to no-one. I don't want to wait more than a few minutes for BL to come out, but if Tim says wait, wait I shall. Schafer is a genius, and companies should be showering him with praises in the hopes that he MIGHT give them some of his mental table scraps. Those scraps would be better than 99% of the garbage that's out now.

@boopadoo: It's not just fine, Brutal Legend is like a good dog.
It's good!

This pleases me. I didn't think it'd be canceled, but all the same Tim Schafer should have his games published without the distributors even having to ask about them.

Of course Brutal Legend is fine, its creator just avoided DEATH BY WEEVIL.

Hmmmm... we're closer to an answer about Riddick.
I'm leaning towards them saying it's been canned though. [goes into corner to sulk]

Whew....
I was getting worried that someone at Activision might have come to their senses and realized that Brutal Legend has unique artistic vision, tongue-in-cheek satirical humor, and isn't just another cookie-cutter game that will appeal to the new breed of "casual gamers" and hardcore Halo junkies alike. It's a mystery to me how they're even letting this one get published.
Let's all hope that the marketers don't get all confused, like with Psychonauts, and mis-manage a great title into obscurity.
...then again with big names like JACK BLACK and LEMMY KILMEISTER, Activision will surely need to make a return on the investment.
Alright...I'm done... \\end cynicism

Yeah... considering Double Fine's talent for getting into trouble, Brutal Legend won't be 'fine' until it's actually spinning up on my console.
Glad to hear it, of course, but if the next post is from the county health inspector explaining how everyone at DF died of mutant e-coli and were eaten by cereal weevils, it will not be a huge surprise.

@silenthill4vid:
Only ever so slightly. I say that because I've played three Tim Schafer games (Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango), and each time I was just ever so slightly disappointed by the end.
But I figure Tim Schafer + metal = low chance of disappointment. It'll be cool if there's more than just heavy metal/NWOBHM in the game. Some thrash would be nice (especially since the inspiration for the game came from a Megadeth roadie). And maybe some death metal too, though that's probably pushing my luck.
