E3 Titles Showcase Quality, Innovation and Accessibility on New Properties and Popular Franchises
E3 Media & Business Summit 2008
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today unveiled the games it will feature at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) at the Los Angeles Convention Centre (LACC) July 15 - 17. The games — scheduled to ship on multiple platforms in 2008 and early 2009 - include riveting graphics, deep stories and online, socially connected experiences. EA's portfolio covers many genres and platforms for core gamers and new players alike. Veteran players will love the feature innovations in our core titles; new players - women, young people and adults - will have a wide selection of highly accessible games like MySims™ Kingdom, Hasbro's LITTLEST PET SHOP and FaceBreaker™ a new arcade-style boxing game from the new EA SPORTS Freestyle™ brand."EA's 2008 lineup is our best ever," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. "This is the year that our core franchises leap forward with stunning innovation and we introduce more brand new games than any other year in our history. Sports lovers will compete in an all new holographic mode in Madden NFL 09 and experience the online evolution of their players in NBA LIVE 09. Action fans will be able to destroy everything in sight in Mercenaries 2 and be scared witless in our new Sci-Fi horror title Dead Space. We've got casual family titles like Hasbro's LITTLEST PET SHOP and genre-defying experiences like Mirror's Edge and Spore. EA has never offered consumers a stronger, more innovative and diverse line up of new games."
"EA's 2008 lineup includes titles that are going to change how people purchase, play and socialize in games," said EA COO John Pleasants. "Spore - scheduled for release in September - can be experienced as a single player or in an online social network that will form its own galaxy. Battlefield Heroes brings comic-styled warfare together with multi-player fun in the first free-to-play First Person Shooter. MySims PC brings multi-player interaction to the universe of MySims. Warhammer Online promises realm-versus-realm gameplay, unique in the scale and consequence thousands of players can experience together in a game. These games are great examples of the many titles that will allow consumers to interact with their friends and with EA's content in new ways that bridge the gap between games and social networks."
EA will kick off its E3 presence with a press conference hosted by CEO John Riccitiello, and spotlighting many of the creative leaders as well as featuring new titles from EA.

It looks a lot to me like Ubisoft and EA have traded places.. The former was quite cool a while back but have started to resort too much to shovelling shit onto Nintendo platforms. EA, however, are developing and backing a lot of interesting things these days. There is SW there, sure, but consider their lineup in comparison to a few years ago..

Left 4 Dead is a no-brainer (so to speak), but Dead Space concerns me. I want it to be awesome in the worst way, but I can't help but shake the feeling EA's gonna drop the ball on it somehow... Hopefully positive word on it (from those not on EA's dime) will start to come out at E3.

Posted 4:53 AM 11/7/08
Several things in EA's booth this year really appeal to me. Left 4 Dead is an easy pick, because Valve are fucking brilliant, and Mirror Edge just looks better every time they show us anything. Dead Space looks pretty cool, too. EA might wind up taking this show just on volume alone, even if their sports games are mediocre.

I only see a couple decent games. The problem is I've come to expect too much out of EA and their "acquired" franchises. They usually end up disappointing me, which is why I'm worried that RA3 is going to turn out like garbage. The only redeeming ray of light this series has left is Frank Klepacki return to do the RA3 sound track, so he might have some things to say on behalf of ex-westwood employees.

Way to not even mention NHL 09 - the follow up to IGN's 2007 Sports game of the Year. But plenty of info on that steaming pile of dog poo, NBA Live. Hockey gets no love...not even from their partners.

No mention of NFS Undercover. Good, let me focus on Midnight Club LA.

@Nosignalinput: That was supposed to be 'not always the developer'.

@rwhp3: You have to stop assuming that EA develops these games. EA is the publisher, not the developer.

You think that's a lot of good stuff? Believe not a single one of them will be worth the price. It's EA, dont' you wonder why so many titles at E3? Simply cuz EA are there to make a quick buck. Orange Box, anyone? [orangeboxpetition.com]

Why is it that no one in the comments section seems excited for Lord of the Rings: Conquest? I think that game is the best upcoming EA game.

I think its safe to say EA can save their money, I don't think they will need a bigger website. Only a couple games are really worth any hyping and EA already released information on them.
Pretty much all the anticipated games from EA have sort of fizzled out after they have launched, or plagued with bugs.
For me that deflates any excitement I may have otherwise had for their games.
