They lied to you, fine. But how does it make the game worse exactly? It's being ported from PS3 to 360 so no worries there, and BD should save you the multidisc "problem." So what's the deal? Warhawk's devs changed their plans also by making it from full game to multiplayer only. Motorstorm devs removed split-screen. Did that change anything in the awesomeness of the games? Don't get me wrong; I really enjoy the God of War games, but any release this big has to generate buzz long before it comes out so they can string everyone along, building up to the eventual consumer feeding frenzy on release day. If a big name game simply dropped with no prior announcement people might not realize it is out.

Anyway I'm looking forward to Kratos killing off the rest of the Greek pantheon, and possibly a couple more for good measure. Once he's done on Olympus he'll probably go give Osiris and his bunch a working over for good measure.

I think God of war 1 and 2 were a little boring (weren't too into the gameplay mechanics but the story wasn't bad) but God of war 3 will hopefully be better. I suspect it'll be great but I want more fluidity in the combat. I don't want to stand still and swing in a circle with blades on chains or anything cos that just seems cheap to me.

I just couldn't get into FF VIII. I hated the gameplay, the summon system, the junction system, the drawing system and.. well.. I hated pretty much everything about the game (but the Lunar Cry cut scene was epic). FF X is OK, despite that debatable voice acting (the laughing sequence is just plain horrible). FF XII is awesome in my book. Not as godly as FF IX or VII, but very close (I didn't mention FF VI because I'm one of those weirdos that never thought it was all it's hyped up to be).

That's fine with me, as the FF series is pretty much always good (with the occasional dud like FF VIII and FF XI), so more people enjoying it isn't negative in any way. And it doesn't make the game any worse. But SE lying for years just made me lose trust in the company and their business tactics. I've lost that loving feeling I had for SE. Not even a PS3-exclusive Kingdom Hearts 3 would make up for SE lying for years to me as a FF fan. If they'd just been honest from the beginning, I wouldn't have reacted to FF XIII being a multi-platform game. So, to sum it up: I won't buy FF XIII. Not because 360 owners get to play it, but because I have lost trust in SE.

Not the same thing. Those were changes to the game. FF13's available on the 360 changes nothing about the PS3 version, other than it's users desire to sing the "I have this and you don't" song.

It's a pretty safe assumption that a major first-party franchise will see the light of day on new hardware sooner or later (and in this case anyone who bothered to pick up Chains of Olympus has known since March). For those games, the Marios, Halos, and God of Wars of the world I see no point in a teaser. Give us a longer trailer which satisfies our expectations...not just a thirty second clip which says little more than "We know you know."

I hated FF XII when I first bought it, and I put it away for a few months after woving to never play it again. When I picked it up again and got into the game, I found it to be immensely enjoyable. And now that I've experienced FF with real-time battles, I just can't imagine going back to the random battles of the old FF games. The plot is relatively slow compared to older FF games and the music is noticeably weaker than earlier FF offerings, but I'd still say it's a very enjoyable game, if you just get into the mechanics of the game.

Look at MGS4 (deserved), Mass effect (partly deserved), even stuff like Wii sports get attention just for being exclusive. Exclusitivity isn't a matter of bragging rights or fanboy greed, it's about purpose. There's no purpose in buying a console if there are no exclusives, why buy console A with no exclusives when console B does the same thing but has some really good exclusive games? Exclusitive games are the measure of the quality of a console. Also exclusive games have a little bit more interest because you know it's a unique experience for your console only.

Er. And regarding GoWIII, I guess (if it's a PS3 exclusive... :P) that's a reason for me to reconsider getting the console, as FF13 had originally been my only real selling point other than MGS4 and maybes like Resistance and Killzone.

And since (I assume?) FF13 will look better on the PS3, then that means I still have a reason to buy the PS3 edition. Wins all around!

So, all in all, two of the current consoles lack games that would make me want to buy it, and the one who's actually got games is still too unreliable for me.

Why do people care so much about exclusitivity? Is it all just about "we have it you don't" and that somehow makes things better? If a company changes its mind, suddenly they've been "lying for years"? By saying that a PS3 exclusive *could* have made up for it, it really sounds like that's really what mattered to you - the fact that PS3 owners had a game 360 owners wouldn't, and that it was somehow something for you to crow about.

@Combichristoffersen: I don't see why it was hated so much, the gameplay was like most other FF's apart from the combat which I'll go into. Summon system was just normal summons with the option to boost there power and get skills from them, Junction system was simple enough to me, I did the junction system when I was around 12 or 13 and found it easy and cool. Drawing was a bit of a nuisance I'll admit but it was just another way of doing things, not everything in the game was perfect I'll admit. I loved the cinematics, the dream sequences were pure torture though.

FFX was to me, as bad as FFVIII was to you. It just didn't work for me at all. XII I've not played much of, story might be good but I don't like MMO-esque gameplay and since it's a grind of battles to level up I can't be bothered. I've not played VI yet but I do have it. VII is awesome ofcourse.

If you don't own it it's easy to criticize it, but any owner of each system can very easily challenge your claims. I say if money isn't a problem, jump in, you won't regret it. That is all. Next gen systems are doing stuff the PS2 could not even dream of achieving. Trust me on that. If you're waiting for them to produce magic then you're in for a LONG wait.

The 360 did at one point have an estimated failure rate of 33% IIRC, which is far higher than most electronic products. It's supposedly better nowadays, but I'm still wary, as it apparently still is more prone to dying than the Wii or the PS3. The only 360 exclusive games I can think of ATM that I'd want are Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and the Xbox Live versions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Duke 3D. Otherwise it just doesn't have much I care for (but it's still more than what the Wii or the PS3 offer ATM as far as I am concerned).

As for MGS4, it's a great game, but I've already watched a mate of mine complete it, so I don't feel the need to play it. And Ratchet.. I played the PSN demo, and it looked like being not much more than a polished version of the PS2 games, i.e. the gameplay was exactly the same, but the graphics were obviously better. Not very exciting. Uncharted looks sweet, same goes for GoW III. LBP doesn't interest me much, though.

@Combichristoffersen: The 360s reliability problems are, as far as I know, no greater than the reliability of any consumer product. I haven't heard of any dying out of any of the 20+ people I know who have them, nor have I heard them talk of their friends 360s dying. It certainly did have a major, inexcusable, horrendous problem, but it's a fantastic system, and if you buy now and it dies, MS will warranty it for three years, free of charge, for the Ring of Death syndrome. Both systems have some stellar games, and it sounds as though you like what the 360 has to offer a bit more, so don't hesitate - if you have the cash, buy it, and you'll be happy. By the end of the year, you'll have Gears of War 1 & 2, BioShock, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Fable 2, etc. etc. If you want a PS3, go get it, too. Uncharted, Ratchet, MGS4, God of War 3, Little Big Planet, etc.
Go buy one, and stop complaining about systems you don't have.

@Combichristoffersen: Square never lied to you for years. By all indications this was a very recent decision and quite possibly an agreement which was met collectively by Square, Microsoft, and Sony.

I didn't want to see Final Fantasy go to the 360, at least not in this manner. But it's true that the possibility with this one was always there. To date, the PlayStation 3 is the only next-gen system (including handhelds) which has seen no games from Square released on it. Hell, Yoichi Wada has publicly stated that Sony needs to get their shit together (his phrasing was more eloquent) regarding the PlayStation 3.

Anyway, looking at the circumstances it would appear that all of this transpired not that long ago and that all three companies were aware of what was going on. I'm not happy about the blow to the PlayStation 3's rep, but I'll still buy, play, and enjoy the game when it's released.

Square had no way of knowing that neither next-gen platform would exactly take off like a rocket this gen and that ultimately the only way to turn a profit on such an unruly project would be to push it across both. Perhaps if Sony was nearer to closing that 5 million console gap in North America Square might have reconsidered, but" shoulda, woulda, coulda".

And once again, in the case of the N64 Square had no way of knowing that Nintendo was going to make the ass-backwards decision of sticking with cartridges. Hell, Square tried to work with the medium and it simply didn't take.

Circumstance dictates action, and as much as it may piss some us off Square did what it felt was most prudent. For now I feel like I've blown off enough steam on the "bombshell"...and replacing outrage is a general attitude of "if it gets the game out sooner, then great...maybe having two fires lit under Square's ass will do better than one." As long as Microsoft/Square don't pull some "Last Remnant" bullshit with this game I'll grudgingly put up with the changes. After all, what choice do any of us really have but to accept it?

Hell, in a way I'm actually relieved. I knew damn well Sony was going to lose exclusive dibs at the main numbered series sooner or later. And now that this particular band-aid has been yanked off my hairy arm I can move on. Doesn't mean I can't say "Fuck Microsoft" when it happened...but then short, violent outbursts are to be expected when one is unpleasantly shocked or surprised ;)

This will make my girlfriend happy. Shes a huge God of War lover for some reason. And Heavenly Sword and Conan for that matter.

I think they are by far the strangest games for a girl to get really into. Pure hack n' slash. Makes little to no sense to me, but hey, if its her cup of tea, its her cup of tea.

I guess GoW is Sony's Halo... It doesn't have it's awesome 3rd party exclusives anymore, so it's got the franchise it owns to draw another million PS3 users... I wonder if they'll fix their mistakes when the make the PS4?

Yet ANOTHER God of War.Sorry guys, this franchise is starting to get really stale.I don't care how well it's done, it'll be the same game as it has been 3 times already with prettier graphics and little to no additional depth.I just can't get excited about it.Looks like the only RPG's the PS3 is getting ,are either regurgitated 360 titles or games also appearing on other systems as well.

I do think Sony's missing a bet by not releasing a "blooper reel" starring Kratos.

It's a shame development costs are so high these days as I'd love to see more developers put their serious characters in gag games.

@Combichristoffersen: If you've looked closely or rather followed Squaresoft or SquareEnix, you'll notice that they've always bee going for the console that is most popular and the one that sells better. It wasn't a huge surprise. It was just a rather disappointing inevitable moment. =(

On the other side, yay for GOW. I was waiting for what happened since the last cliffhanger (literally hanging from a cliff for those who remember) in GOW2. ;_;

this is the announcement I've been waiting for can't wait for this. since every other God of War game has pushed it's console to the limits (Ps2 and PSP) I can't wait to see what they can do with this.

I don't think it all that "hammy" really. Chaos is the father of all the gods and one of the titans that Zeus imprisoned. Not to be a spoiler but at the end of the game (#2) Kratos and the Titans were climbing Mt. Olympus to kick some ass. The trailer seems to be a fitting continuation of GoW 2.

Cratos face model was highly detailed, but the rest of it was very brown. Yeah, same color as poop. If previous GOW games graphics had all colors of the rainbow, this one is so close to being chromatic that it isn't even funny. Let's hope Sony doesn't screw this up or they will get hell from at least one Kotaku commenter.
