Those are some nice additions to the lineup. This game started off pretty shaky, but its coming together nicely.

Also whats with all the MK beef? Its not like 3D games were completely horrible. MK: Deadly Alliance was a VERY good fighter and MK: Deception was slightly above average. MK: Armageddon was the worst from last gen.

However, when I think of the best fighting series out there Mortal Kombat is still probably in the top 5.

Actually, Joker's fighting abilities vary drastically depending upon the (comic) writer.

In some cases, Joker's so frail that a single blow is enough to put him down. In other cases, he's able to hold his own even up against a skilled martial artist like the Dark Knight. Apparently, the devs have gone with the latter, at least I'm hoping so.

I would bank on the GL being John Stewart. Hal Jordan's the classic, but John Stewart's the well known one amongst the mainstream. Everyone knows him from the cartoons.

As for the Joker being a fighter, read some more of the comics. He's always been a guy who can actually hold his own against Batman for the simple sake of being so nuts that he has a completely unpredictable fighting style.

Plus, I'd give him a crowbar as opposed to a .45. That's what he used to kill Jason Todd, after all.

there are fatalities in this game. The superheroes have brutalities not quite fatal but very fun. The bad guys and mortal kombat characters have fatalities. The joker will make for a creative fighter he may not be a kung fu master but you can bet he will have tricks up his sleave and some very leathal surprise attacks.

So, yes, fatalities will be in the game, just not as we're used to them.

For the record, there are fatalities in this game. Villains will pull off traditional MK fatalities while the super heroes, not prone to killing, will have brutality-ish finishers that end the match without killing off the opponent.

I highly doubt they'll model it after Heath Ledger's Joker. As hot as that movie is right now, I think the last thing Midway wants is the controversy that would come from letting gamers pound a Heath Ledger look-a-like to a pulp.

For those who say the Joker doesn't belong/isn't much of a fighter - that's not entirely true. Granted, he'll do whatever he can to avoid a one-on-one confrontation, but, when it comes down to it, he's deadly with his hands and always has been. He's dangerously quick and with the right tools (knife etc) he can mess stuff up.

Mortal Kombat 5 was pretty good. Part 3 and 4 were awful from what I recall.

But I do have some good memories about modernization of 5, trying to make it into a real 3D fighter.

It was obvious the game wasn't perfect, but it was done REALLY well for their first attempt. I enjoyed it thuroughly.

@djricekcn: Supposedly it's more rugged now, mechanically. 1UP described it during E3 as being almost a versus brawler, and that the ridiculous string moves have been pared down a bit. So who knows-- maybe this could be a fundamentally solid fighting game.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the characters. Make the roster bigger than you've hinted at it being, Midway! Bring on the Huntress, bring on Nemesis, bring on... oh, who am I kidding. Just give me a character creator so I can at least pretend this game has Marvel characters.
