Here's Four Minutes Of Infinite Undiscovery
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 7:30 PM on July 3, 2008
Yup. Four minutes of Tri-Ace's Infinite Undiscovery. Looks like the very first four minutes of the game, too, so don't press play expecting to see some kind of pre-rendered sales pitch or innovative new feature. If you're after some stodgy animation and a lot of Japanese speech, however, go right ahead!

I haven't bought a JRPG in a while, but this may very well be the first, also Last Remnant sparks my interest as well.

@gogators88: Actually this one ships (should be in stores a few days later) on September 2nd of this year, with Tales of Vesperia coming August 19th, The Last Remnant in "winter", and Star Ocean 4 in 2009, so thankfully they're continuing to be timely with their RPGs.

The art direction is a lot like FFXII - not a bad thing by any means.

Hopefully this get out in the States before the end of the year. The JRPG's so far haven't been too bad on the 360. Lost Odyssey has been the best so far, hopefully this can supercede it.

Real-time combat? Sweet! If the reviews are good, this might be my first JRPG in many, MANY years.

Looks great otherwise. Hopefully we will get to keep the Japanese voices in the US version.

I don't want to be trolling here, but beside the number of poly's this really looks like a last-gen game. Of course, this in WIP footage so I'm sure it's gonna get better. One thing that won't get better though, is their art-direction. Looks quite generic if you'd ask me.

Glad to see them taking full advantage of the 360 hardware with flat low-res textures and half-assed animations. As much of a JRPG fan I am, I can't sit here satisfied when you could so much better on the 360.

I don't like real time combat that much in RPG but it doesn't look too bad and it'll probably be more fun later on when you have more skills, better weapons and cooler enemy. I'll keep my eye on it but Tales of vesperia and Star ocean 4 will probably keep me more interested. Kinda interesed in Last remnant (need to see more footage) and I am going to be getting chrono trigger on the DS so I have a lot of JRPG coming :3

@Tarutaru_Pantsu: The real time combat is probably the smartest thing they did here, considering it's on 360 and they're trying to "Americanize" this title.
@Starsky: I don't see how you can decide that so quickly. Why's it awful? Because there were moments where the player character just stood still? That was obviously the player's doing, to show how combat and counters work.

Why do all of square's games look the same? What happened
to the innovation? Im tired of playing as some Japanese
preteen who looks like he could be in a boy band. Don't
all these games look like they're starting to just mess
together, and somehow they all have powers to take on
the evil that is conveniently near them?

Not impressed, the targeting icon just seemed like it covering too much of the objects it was on, but I did like the real time combat. They need to show other characters abilities, and if they can rename the title.

Isn't this the first now-gen game Square decided to use a third party software to make this game? The unreal engine I think and I was kinda wondering why it don't look like gow with all that plastic looking armor and fuzzy dark backgrounds.
The camera shifted too quickly and I wanted to see if the guy blasted at the end was still laying flat on the stairs.. but that's what I'd see in most games before rag doll, though Japan is still a little slow on the new stuff. Going with that new rag-doll software, GTA4 really knocked it out of the park and I was hoping Japan would get the clue to use it.

This is a game I had high hopes for, like the battle system, not liking the art, textures, animations, cutscene direction or the jerkiness of the camera.
Hopefully the gameplay really makes up for it, I don't mind Disgaea's low-fi graphics, the game is mad fun, unfortunately I'm not seeing that mad fun part yet, hope I'm wrong.

@insane_cobra: Thanks for the link. The escape sequence in the second part was pretty interesting. When it comes to graphics this game obviously won't win any awards but I know Disgaea 3 is going next-gen yet it's graphics could work on any handheld. Still the previous iterations where heaps of fun and I'm sure Disgaea 3 will deliver. I learned long ago that graphics don't mean a thing when the gameplay can't back it up *cough*Haze*cough*. Disgaea is an example of fun gameplay and crap graphics. Hopefully I can refer to Infinite Undiscovery in the future whenever a "graphics determines everything" argument comes around.
Back to the game. Only gripe I have is the sitting down when in the menu. Especially with an active combat system. I don't want to slowly sit down and stand up when in the middle of a battle.

I'm shocked. Nay, appalled. Perfect opportunity for a panty shot in a Japanese game... and she's wearing black biker shorts.
Anyhoo, seriously though. While I prefer turn based w/ random battles, Action RPG's like Star Ocean & Tales series are good from time to time. The sitting down during the pause menu is a cute touch, I just hope it still pauses the game so you don't have to worry about getting attacked while going through the menus. (though, I suppose w/o random battles, if the foes are all fairly stationary that's less of an issue.)

The real time combat looks interesting, I mostly just hope it plays well in practice though.
The graphics certainly aren't amazing, but calling them PS2 graphics is just out right incorrect. The only particularly unimpressive aspect is the quality of the textures.
The PS2 never rendered actual real-time graphics that well and it never could.
I am definitely interested, especially because it seems you actually fight in the environment you are in rather than the screen breaking away to some half assed approximation like it so many other "action" JRPGs.

@Majpain007: @kidko: In Other words: I like Action games but not really RPG's, so give me an Action game with some RPG elements. (A.k.a. action RPG)
@Bokusatsu_Tenshi: No audio or English. Putting in Japanese audio is a waste of time and space. I don't understand it so they may as well save their money (and disk space) by not recording speech in the first place.
Oh. And one thing. IF you can change armor... then you better actually look like you've changed armor. I've had it up to here with Japanese developers copping out and failing to have equipment effect how you look. If you must take the easy way out, or are so in love with your static character designs, that you simply don't want to change the way the characters look, then simply don't have armor changes/upgrades. Have bracelets, or magic necklaces, or something.
