Hey, You Got Kiefer Sutherland In My Call Of Duty 5
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 4:30 PM on July 16, 2008
Activision's not-E3 presser was surprisingly mundane, considering they're North America's #1 publisher and all. One thing stands out for fans of 24 and Lost Boys the world over, however: it was announced by Treyarch that Kiefer Sutherland will be on voice-actor duties for the upcoming Call Of Duty: World At War. No specifics on which role, but if you presume he'll be a gruff-voiced American soldier and work from there, you should be OK.

Judging by that flower, I am guessing someone made him a bitch when he was in jail?
And smoking two cigs is a great way to not have them stolen in jail.
How do I know this? My Mom, Dad, Sisters, Brother, Uncle, Aunt, and Grandmother are all in jail as I type.
And you wonder why I am so fucking angry all the time.
Cut me some slack.

@dowingba: I know, my original post was going to contain this but I took it out:
Die by the Sword (1998)
Die by the Sword: Limb from Limb (1998) (Expansion Pack)
Triple Play 2000 (1999)
Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm (2000)
Max Steel (2000)
Triple Play 2001 (2000)
NHL 2K2 (2001)
Triple Play Baseball (2001)
Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer (2002)
Minority Report: Everybody Runs (2002)
Spider-Man (2002)
NHL 2K3 (2002)
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Ultimate Spider-Man (2005)
Call of Duty 3 (2006)
Spider-Man 3 (2007
Than I'd say, maybe we can give them another chance (?) I still want to like COD5 though since I'm a big fan of the series and own them all.

Well that is the only reason I need not to buy CoD5.
No celebrities in my video games, please... Or at least get ones that usually do voice acting.

@kylo4: They've made other games other than COD3, you know. They were all rushed shovelware budget crap like COD3, though.

Well, I hope I am proven wrong that Treyarch makes crappy, budget placeholder games because Infinity Ward was hanging out with Playboy Bunnies instead of making games, with Quantum of Solace and Kiefer-fueled World at War.

We can give them another chance, can't we? They seem to be trying now at least with Spider-man: Web of Shadows, what could be fun, Quantum of Solace. I just hope they don't screw this COD up. 3 was so incredibly buggy and like a 2.5 that it was a bit of an embarrassment. I'll buy COD5 if it's good, and I can do WW2 one last time. But they better make it live up the name.

To elaborate, i'd be more excited to learn Cam Clarke would be in this than Kiefer Sutherland. Like Tycho said in a post a while back, "We Have Our Own Subculture With Its Own Celebrities". Instead of trying to jam pop cult celebrities into our games, they should do whats right and elevate the existing talent, some of which is really bloody good.
So many composers, voice talent and sound people in this industry don't get anywhere near enough credit for how they've elevated the artform. This kind of shit just goes to say some of the higher ups simply aren't capable of realizing that they could be making NEW celebrities rather than feed off the existing ones.

Kiefer Sutherland? WHY?
Hows abouts you spend your money on making a good game, instead of populating your inevitably mediocre rehash of a game with a good voice actor?
Besides, using Hollywood talent in a game like CoD is completely ruinous to the fiction of the franchise. There's no better way to break the immersion you've strived to create for 5 games now by adding a very recognizable voice to a character that was supposed to be alive over 60 years ago.
It completely destroys the "immersion" factor when I recognize a voice actor in a videogame. It simply serves to remind me that I am playing a game and creates a disconenct between me and the environment I am supposed to be vicariously inhabiting.
That said industry? STOP HIRING KIETH DAVID. We're all sick of him, as The Arbiter, as a Saint, as whoever-his-otherwise-forgettable character in Mass Effect was. He's played out!
/end of rant
Treyarch should just call it Call of Duty: 24 or Call of Duty: The Lost Boys, and then never, ever make a CoD game again... please.
@Sunjammer:
Exactly.
@yokoland:
Yeah, but he's worked with Joel Schumacher... more than once, and even after he ruined Batman. That pretty much cancels any and all possible cred in my book!
