I like his viewpoint on making Snake feel mortal, I think it really has payed off a bit because 4 really made me think about the fact MGS came out ten years ago. As a note, Solid Snake notes how he and Link has the name thing in common (in Smash Bros Brawl). While Link is a name given to multiple people with little/no relation to each other, perhaps the same is going to sound true with the next Snake. Who knows, perhaps Raiden is the next "Chicken Fox".

I'm game for what ever Hideo Kojima has up his sleeve. There remember at the end of MGS4 when Big Boss was talking about that its just a cycle, and that this one was over but a new one was eventually gonna start up. I am definitely thinking that was a small hint for a possibility for a new game. We could have a different cast of characters and an occasional old face, but hopefully for sure we can have sunny as the new Otocon.

The only way they can make a 'new' Snake is if they went a completely different direction with him/her. In fact, I would take it as a good idea to use a female for the 'new' Snake, because a new male Snake simply won't ever live up to Solid Snake. Besides, we already have Raiden for a girly-man.

A new Snake for a new era sounds very nice. I honestly don't think any characters existing right now should be considered for this role but rather someone entirely new that'd represent the this new era in it's own light.

Snake's been a neat comic book hero to me. Kind of the same love I have for Captain America and the other greats. So this whole "passing of the torch" idea is just stellar to me.

A female Snake (as long as its not Lara Croft proportions)
Cloned Snake (A clone of Solid Snake, would be a different person, but Otacon would treat him like his old friend, bring up issues. Interesting if pulled off right.)
New Snake (would be branded as the improvement and replacement, but pulled off shelves when people yearn for Snake Classic)

I absolutely love all the MGS gamess, MGS 3: Snakeater/Subsistence being my favorite(s). I would despise if the 'new' snake was Johnny (Akiba), the dude crapped his pants! How could his badassness ever reach Naked/Solid snake status knowing that he has crapped his pants on several occasions? I think that the series should go back to Naked snake a.k.a. Big Boss. Or even the Boss, the two were the 'greatest soldiers who ever lived'. That would be sweet. There is a lot of history with the Boss, the Philosophers, the Boss training soldiers, etc.

I was one of the people who really didn't like playing as Raiden for MGS2, but he became so bad ass as a cyborg ninja in MGS4 that making him be the lead character in a spin-off could be awesome. Granted, it wouldn't be a "sneaky" type sequel, but you could do something with a similar control scheme to Assassin's Creed (yeah, I know it's a hated game around Kotaku but I liked it) and run/jump/climb around and kick some serious ass.

This was inevitable. Solid Snake has been in and out of the series though. Raiden had over half the game in MGS2, Naked Snake had the whole game in MGS3, MGPO and MGPO+, and I think the guy in Metal Gear Acid 2 wasn't Solid Snake either.

A new Snake would give them a chance to rethink the mechanics of the game though, and dump the few contrivances that still hold the series back a little, like set areas with loading in between and the fact that guards just give up searching for you after a while. Keep the cardboard boxes and porno mags though, some things are sacrosanct.

Kojima helped to redefine the way we look at the action stealth genre. just go ask Altair,Sam Fisher,Gabe Logan,(insert name).Yes Splinter Cell is a great stealth game through and through. but does the story or characters have the same emotional attachment that MGS produces? i dunno about that. is MGS over the top? YES! is it quirky,whimsical,and downright odd? YES! but those little things that MGS has done has pushed it to the next level of gaming. Kojima put it best in his interview. Snake is a character that has grown with the times. which gives us a chance to relate to him on a level not attained by most popular franchises. and it also enables the room for nostalgia. when i played through MGS4 i reallized the last 10 years of MGS was being realized in this game. fan service is an understatement. I hope more games in the future can create this feeling of "conception to end".

There is still plenty of story left there that the untold chapter preceding MGS4 could make one last game with David.

Big Boss was very different from Solid Snake and they don't really make the same character.

Big Boss was always the idealist and a man of massive integrity. Solid Snake was more of a do-what-you're-told soldier who was caught up in the system.

A third character would be great. The first two were epic.

I doubt any new Snake could surpass Solid. It would be interesting to see two new snakes at once (both on the same side) and see if two can surpass Old Snake. No idea what you'd call them though.

The next game they make will probably be with Raiden when he rescued Sunny from the Patriots. Let's hope it continues after that and we get to play Raiden vs Gecko.
