Interview: Catching Up On Microsoft's Big Announcements
By: Leigh Alexander and Adam Barenblat
After Microsoft's presser, Adam and I hit the floor to talk to Matt Barlow, general marketing manager for Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment biz, about the announcements — we talked the new Xbox 360 user interface and the avatars, asked how Lips will work, and whether he thinks Final Fantasy XII will help the company's console penetration in Japan.

I love how this guy somehow chains from tough questions back to reinforcing the marketing line. You guys chose the wrong person to ask some of these questions to
The marketing is strong in this one... which would explain his position within the company :D
It's a great day to be an xbox360 owner... and an American.
@ViciousViper:
Did you forget that Microsoft have been doing HD video downloads for around a year already?
Sony have been talking about a lot of things for years *cough*HOME*cough*. Doesn't mean they turn up the next day.
Mr_Ed
Wow, holy softball questions batman! Why even bother interviewing anyone when you could just read their press release instead?
Sebbe
I like how well he is at avoiding saying "ps3" or "wii"
cluster1990
@ThisCharmingMan: Yeah I dont like him at all I get a feeling like he is the kind of guy that tried so hard to be that cool guy and get with that hot girl in bio but ended up raping the girl in his english class.
Allcars
I've had what alcoholics often refer to as "a moment of clarity".
On Tuesday, Bungie will announce an exclusive deal with Sony to counter this FFXIII bombshell.
You heard it here first!!

I came here looking for specific comments. kotaku is either banning anyone who says anything 'lude' about Leigh Alexander or... you have all failed me. I refuse to believe you've all failed me.
Hence, I will carefully hide my misogynistic and hetero-normative talk in the following nonsense. Matt Barlow is not an attractive man. Is there any chance he knows or is related too Lou Barlow? If so I would think about hitting it in order to join the family. Since I have meandered slowly off topic, I'm going to say,
"What's up with those earrings?" He's talking and all I can think of is, English major. Old hag English lit earrings. I know paper snowflake isn't quite as awful as, say, brown wind chime replicas but... still, come on kotaku, if you want us to get excited about an interviewer you guys are going to need to hire a makeup and wardrobe person. Still, she's better than any of the G4 monsters. Gag me with a moon unit zappa endorsed spoon.
I also say eh, to all the ps3 fan boys. "Their gonna play better, their gonna look better." Sure they are. Still, FFXIII is a sting. But SE ultimately has to look at the bottom line. Or that's what once stood for my brand loyalty told me.
Deep down in your souls you all know I only wanted to say/read one thing and even without specifically reading it you remembered all those glorious times you read it before. Saw it captured in a picture on fark or an acsii art on digg. Or heaven forbid you sick sick motherless dogs, read it on 4chan. As always, this has been your ever faithful,
boy who knows that pants are for the week,
-danny
PS: Patcher told me she's a virgin. We will label this one with the rumor tag for now, but honestly, did you see those earrings? I'm just saying, "good job, kotaku."
Squanderdalfast
@jsf49: Because we can see the game in action and based off of the first gears and other fallouts they are both going to be great. Even if they suck they seem to be worth it to me now.
I don't think that singstar..er..Lips (sounds like some sexual innuendo) or an old Eye toy game from PS2 is what the 360 needs. I just don't see what is new or innovative about doing the same thing but with a new look. The dash was fine before. We didn't need a full overhaul to finally get 8 way chat. And we didn't need avatars. Blades were fine. But whatever I'll just have to get use to them.
Netnavi
"Their gonna play better, their gonna look better"
What?
RaepGoblin
Is that guy for real? WTH? He's a complete tool...he makes me hate my 360
Valiant Goat
@Netnavi: What bullshit is that? Neither Gears2 nor Fallout3 have even come out yet. How can you say those are the only ones "worth it" this year? They could end up sucky for all you know. Just more hype machine stuff. Seriously, why do these people's jobs for them?
jsf49
@HikariOblivion: Thank you! I see nothing big about MS strategy. They changed the UI to make it look like they are doing something which can still easily be done on the dashboard anyway. Then we have the avatars that are trying to attract the Wii audience and the so called casual games that came out for PS2 years befoer. FF13 is not that big a deal. It's not like it's exclusive all of a sudden to 360. I have only seen 2 games that are worth it this year (so far, I hope there is more) Gears 2 and Fallout 3.
Sony has to show me better games. That's all I care about. Not the UI and not the casual aspect. Just give me the games.
Netnavi
I know why I want to punch him in the face now. He didn't say A THING. He just kept repeating himself, "Blockbuster, Music, Family, Xbox 360, Live, Friends." Over and over. He didnt' really answer Leigh's questions. At all.
MykalBloom
I really want to punch that guy in the face. Don't know why.
On the other hand, I like the shiny Kotaku graphic in the corner and super cool KotakuMics.
MykalBloom
i cant take more of this guy >:( i couldn't even finish the second part of the interview because of how fake that douche bag is. He makes it seem like M$ is there for the consumers needs, give me a fuckin break! they care about raping your wallets :P They should at least hire a video game otaku with marketing skills rather than this car salesman attitude douche bag.
amped602
Damn..microsoft beat Sony to the punch by partnering with Netflix and offering HD video downloads. Even though Sony has been talking about HD video service on the PS3 for about 3 years now.
ViciousViper
@slomo788:
That came exactly to my mind when I read what he said.
Xcite79
Best part of that whole feature is the kotaku mic, very professional
Bob6k
@HikariOblivion: The rules of the internets console wars are bizarre.
As far as I can surmise, when Sony loses an exclusive, MS "wins". When Microsoft loses an exclusive, Sony "is playing catchup". Ah yes, the magic of double standards.
Datheron
Too bad Finally Fantasy 13 will be total shit compared to Final Fantasy 6.
Vanguarde
@Chupakun: Hm, I feel like the Wii and Nintendo in general, though, is over-reliant on the same brand names and they've been getting a free ride by dropping familiar names with the same gameplay that people get more hyped for and remember after, not because the games were better, but more because "it's Nintendo".
You know, games like Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros. Brawl, they get mentioned and hyped a lot more than stuff like Uncharted and Burnout. I personally enjoyed the latter two more, but I feel like they're at least equal games, but it's perfectly OK for Nintendo to rehash pretty much the same game with revised Wii controls and it keeps the fans happy until the next iteration of Wii Mario/Mario Kart/Zelda/Smash. If Sony was to exhaust their Twisted Metals, God of Wars, Icos, and Tekkens to such an extent so quickly, I'd be annoyed as well.
Datheron
I'm the only person that didn't think he was a douchebag?
AZRoboto
announcement? pretty qool for the xbox fans out there
guy speaking? doooooooshbaaaaaaag. he sounds worse than xbox fanboys on forums
dislexiq
microsoft just promoted getting hammered on the couch with your friends...im telling.
DCPlayaPride
Why does he keep saying it'll be better on the 360? You're on DVD, MS. Get Blu-ray going and then we'll talk.
FoxyGaz
Oh my, I always thought Leigh was a guy,
moidsch
why didnt she ask any questions about Bungie?
aleams22
@slomo788: Hey, Microsoft need to get their act together, seriously. They have what, two major first-party titles? Gears if you include second party.
I agree with an earlier commenter - They seem to be too busy buying up exclusives and un-exclusives to put those resources into something that would draw people to their system without hard feelings.
I don't mean to shit on anything, I'm just being critical of the fact that they just still seem to be in the gutter compared to their alliegance-shifting 2006 keynote. Y'know, the E3 that spawned the whole Wii60 thing in the first place? Not as terrible as their 2007 showing, but they're still lacking that SOMETHING that would make people want to gravitate towards their system in the future.
HikariOblivion
@Chupakun: Good night to you! Great discussion!
slomo788
way to side-step the questions like a pro.
DarrenIndeed
@slomo788: Zombies are always good hehe. Anyhow, I bid thee a good night and hope to see you on the comments page for the Sony Press Conference.
Chupakun
@HikariOblivion: Jeez way to shit on everything everyone's excited about! Most of those things were rumored, not announced. And confirmation of great things ALWAYS feels good.
slomo788
*Only way to play the game with full content, blargh, i need to check these things
HikariOblivion
@Chupakun: Yeah that one. But I don't think the Google Maps is going to play the role everyone is expecting. Unless they really reproduce the whole globe... Because the images' resolution was too high for satellite shots. In an interview some KZ2 guy said he also used Google Maps to recreate cities in the game. But any game with zombies should be great. And the top-down view should warrant a casual style of gameplay, instead of a hardcore shooter.
slomo788
@CCCombobreaker: Fallout DLC is nothing new - Oblivion was the same. Plus the only way to play the game is on PC anyhow. Netflix I... suppose, but it's sad when the biggest thing is non-game. Rock Band 2 was already announced, timed exclusives are nothing new, the fact that they needed a new interface in the first place is sad.
I'm interested in Portal but it's hardly something new, Geometry Wars 2 could be interesting, but it's hard to improve on perfect simplicity. Hard to improve on Galaga.
Also, how are Banjo Kazooie 1 and 2 exclusive? Did they get a time machine to steal exclusives from N64 or something?
HikariOblivion
like guy seems to odd. Does guy even play games, he seems to ramble on great games over and over.
zkotaku
The Last Guy is the Google Maps/Earth one right?
I hope they make a spy game with that concept :P
Chupakun
@Chupakun: Ah now I see what you mean. Yeah in the "casual" department Sony is taking an unusually long time. LBP should be interesting in terms of pick up and play gaming. There's also that mysterious The Last Guy... Here's to Sony delivering tomorrow...
slomo788
@slomo788: By all means, a valid - oh dear, Kotaku should have a more direct way of dealing with individual post replies lol. The last post was for your previous reply whereas this is for your first one on Page 2 hehe.
Anyway.
By all means, a valid reason. Nintendo may be shying away from the "hardcore" gamers and I've berated them for that myself, but they also have a handful of pure gems as well. Games or non-games, they do make some fun stuff.
Chupakun
@slomo788: Yep mentioned those games a few posts back sans Socom and MS2 though. MS2 is definitely worth mentioning. Although, getting excited over a(n) (awesome) racing game for having splitscreen multiplayer is an unusual thing. Pity that both DiRT and GRiD lacked such.
I think I it's not just the obvious games that I desire. I'm think of the Wii's Virtual (something) and the XBL Arcade. Short, punchy games worth nibbling over. PixelJunk Eden and Elefunk are a few of well, not many.
But of course there are more to come.
I hope Sony have some surprises up their sleeve. I would love to hear them talk about their Autumn/Winter lineup but let's see them really wow us. I guess a proper working version (beta stage?) of Home would be a good start.
Chupakun
@Chupakun: Personally I just don't like how Nintendo is more into non-gamers than gamers this generation. They care more about my granma than myself! I think MS and Sony are being more active with gamers, but that's just my humble opinion...
slomo788
@HikariOblivion:
Fallout 3 DLC expansion(s) exclusive to 360 and GFW
Netflix streaming exclusive to 360
Rock band 2 coming to 360 first
The new interface is a huge deal
The XBLA games are a huge deal. Banjo 1 &2, Portal Stay alive, Geometry wars 2, Galaga legions, ALL EXCLUSIVE.
CCCombobreaker
@Spartan1308™: But PSN isn't huge on videos either. But I perfectly understand what you mean. Hope Sony finds a way around that, because this is the major reason for Home to be installed on my PS3.
@Chupakun: Sony has at least 4 great first party games coming this fall. R2, Socom, MS2 and LBP. PJ Eden should be nice also. I think that's a pretty good lineup, without even mentioning the multiplats. There are many games to enjoy on PS3 right now, even without Home. Even without the perfect "Live Experience."
slomo788
It's funny when people are surprised/upset that the head marketing guy is giving total PR answers.
CCCombobreaker
Avatars, mildly smiling for this feature. I can see why MS would want to do this to gain/win the casual market.
PURCHASING CLOTHES AND HAIRDO'S/HAIRDON"TS. Lets hope MS don't charge extra for clothing... but you know MS will.
nerdBOY01
@slomo788: Perhaps I haven't made myself clear (and I haven't, which lead to much conjecture). (in regards to your response to kumuasata)
I only namepicked MGS4 simply because it's an exemplar title. Perhaps I should have made a laundry list of original IP but I thought it wasn't necessary.
And there's nothing wrong with Italian plumbers. They're jolly fun people. Yes, our plumber is Italian. And no, he doesn't have a moustache.
There are fun games abound, but I appreciate Nintendo's effort for turning around their gimmick into gameplay. Perhaps that's where it's doing "more" with it's product.
Chupakun
@HamThePharoah: It is? Maybe I did, and all this talk of a new interface and FF13 is clouding whatever amazing things they did announce. Because I see nothing, just a few casual/XBLA announcements, a new interface, and this massive out of proportion mess about FF13
Maybe I missed something?
HikariOblivion
@slomo788: They can control it by simply not allowing you to share anything other than the videos from PSN b/c the videos could either stream or there could be some other way to divide those videos. I'm thinking those videos will have copy protection and so they can work it out so that only those videos would have the share capability. You can't regulate Bittorrent, b/c you can't just sue teh internets but other companies aren't going to simply stand by and watch people share videos through a network owned and operated solely by Sony. In that case, the other companies such as Universal have a target for their suit. Sony. Just like Viacom and other companies with Youtube.
Spartan1308™
@slomo788: That, I'm highly looking forward to. I salivate for LBP and despite my rather tepid viewpoint of Resistance, the sequel looks good to me. And there are strong multiplatform releases coming up as well. The waiting game is never nice.
However, I want to see Sony put more weight behind the actual PS3 as well. More definitive updates, more content in the PS Store, Home living up to its lofty goals (the war room for Warhawk promises the directions I hoped that they would take). But this part - in general - is more optimism on the part of the gamer than tangible reward, sadly.
Chupakun
@kumuasata: That's why the first thing I asked was "are you including the Wii in those other 2 products?" Because seriously if you're lamentating about the PS3 library but you find the Wii one more attractive, I don't know man. I guess if games don't have a 3 or 4 at their end or don't include an Italian plumber they don't exist...
slomo788
@HikariOblivion: That's really funny!!!
HamThePharoah
I would surmise that it was twofold. Square-Enix are looking for further proliferation into the West and MS are looking for ways to enhance their lead with the Xbox 360. Perhaps some money exchanged hands, but there must be a degree of mutual agreement as well.
Chupakun
@invictus: "I wonder if MS slid some money to SE for release on the 360 or SE just wanted a larger user base."
360 has *only* 5 million more users than PS3, which is catching up. That said, most of the other SE games are at least timed 360 exclusives. Why do you think they would care so much about userbase suddenly? And why would they keep the PS3 version on hold while porting it to 360 even after it's done?
slomo788
@slomo788:
Your the one assuming that he said, "PS3 Has No Games but Wii Does? Ok Yea Right."
He has a valid point, but I think in the long run, a ps3 would be worth its purchase.
kumuasata
With the new XBOX 360 dashboard will people have the option for hi-def (smaller text) instead of the HUGE text on my 42"? Will 360 owners have the option of keeping the old dashboard?
ALSO, please please have the preview movie in the dashboard, I don't want to be taken out of the dashboard.
nerdBOY01
@Chupakun: Yeah well the next months look very promising in terms of releases for the PS3. Even if Sony does not announce anything tomorrow their lineup is incredibly strong this year.
@Spartan1308™: Well maybe there will be limitations for videos with some sort of restriction, but if say you download a porn video through Bittorrent or you pirated some movie how can they really regulate that? It's just like music imo, and that seems to work. You have a radio in your appartment that blasts music for everyone to hear. The same way you have a TV that plays media everyone can watch. The only thing that is really controlled is (of course) the games.
slomo788
@SilkRevolver: I second that comment.
nerdBOY01
erm... "big" announcements? did i miss something? they didn't actually announce any new games aside from casual and XBLA
HikariOblivion
I'm very surprised that the Final Fantasy 13 is coming to Xbox360, And the line up of games is going to be amazing I'm currently impressed with Gears Of war 2.
MXs219
I wonder if MS slid some money to SE for release on the 360 or SE just wanted a larger user base.
Also, FF games are usually large. What impact is the DVD going to have on this and is the HDD a requirement? I would assume it would have to be.
invictus
@slomo788: The sharing of movies on Home was really the only part that made me interested. I know that's how they said it would work(being able to share whatever you have), but I doubt they will ever deliver on that. They may make it so you can share whatever you get from the PSN store, but I think they'd run into some serious legal issues if they made it possible for people to share videos owned by other companies over their network. Maybe we'll get a release date for the Beta version from their press conference. Maybe they'll even release the Beta tomorrow.
Spartan1308™
This guy saying the avatars are going to be "really cool" reminded me of like a grandma trying to used "hip" slang. "Yeah, dog! That's really off the clothesline!"
kingofrain
@slomo788: There's no war to be had here. I've not said the games are bad - okay, perhaps I haven't used the word "amazing". However, as a consumer, the console represents my investment and as a gamer it represents my hobby. Perhaps the steam has been picking up recently, but I would like Sony, to augment their product more. There are certainly games on the PS3 that I love playing, but there need to be more.
Just to make sure there are no confusions, I'm only replying to your reply to me (lol) and not anyone else. Peace.
Chupakun
Matt = Used car salesman.
Don't get me wrong, I dig the updates, but he's just sounds fake trying to sell it. Meh i dont know. At least he's not another Cliffy B.
Cliffy B = douche
Shabat0ge
@gamadaya: All Sony's PR people are arrogant. That's a fact. But you will hardly find interviews like the one where Greenberg went rampage. You'll hear smartass sentences like "That's why there's a leader in this industry" but not rants.
slomo788
@Chupakun: I was replying to a specific part of his comment. Read it and you'll understand. And just because PS3 mostly had new IPs so far doesn't mean the games are less amazing. Now please let's not get into a stupid war over this.
slomo788
@slomo788:
Wasn't he they guy that constantly said the PS3 was like going to the movies, while the 360 was like renting a DVD.
Actually, that's not so bad really. I guess I confused blinding arrogance with meanness.
gamadaya
That other box? And what's this stuff about games playing better on XBox 360? If anything, porting this to 360 will most probably downgrade the experience.
HamThePharoah
Okay, this guy is DEFINITELY from the marketing department.
Leave the coffee alone. Put it down, and take 10 steps backward with your hands in the air.
peacefuloutrage
I think they Just Beat PSN HOME to homebase
PresDNA
@slomo788: You're misconstruing the comments. There are plenty of great games on the PS3 but there need to be more. The Wii has run the gamut of it's signature licenses (and is probably preparing for another set) and all of those were rather fun games.
I may have one current-gen console, but I'm open-minded enough to look at everything else going on around me. And the Wii also isn't the topic at hand.
Chupakun
Look at those fancy-shmancy graphics! Very impressive Kotaku, very impressive.
kingofrain
WE CAN'T SAY MUCH ABOUT OUR VERSION OF FFXIII (which will have no advantages), BUT GOD DAMMIT, IT'S GOING TO BE EXCITING WHEN IT'S RELEASED ON THE 360, JUST WAIT, IT'S GOING TO BLOW YOUR MIND (and hopefully this interview will be forgotten by 2012)!
everybest
@Spartan1308™: That's basically Home's major functionality. But Kudos to MS for actually delivering it in the near future instead of a shady Beta promise... In Home you'll be able to share any movie on your HDD (even porn) or in your disc drive though. So far that is.
slomo788
I thought it was called Xbox Live, not Xbox 360 Live. Leigh had good questions - it's too bad that this guy was full of cheese.
BluFire
@Chupakun: By two other fantastic products I'm assuming you're including the Wii? So you mean to tell me you can't find games for PS3 besides MGS4 but you can find more games on the Wii? Yeah okay.
slomo788
@hoopesk2: The "xbox party thing" supposedly lets you get a group of friends together and move from one game to another or even to watching a movie on Netflix together. It seems like a pretty good idea.
Spartan1308™
@Spartan1308™: It was the most ridiculous thing when I learned MS sold those, and I was even more shocked to hear that people actually bought them... But of course, you get what you pay for.
slomo788
He said games are better on xbox 360.
darkstar5555
The whole xbox party thing reminds me of Fahrenheit 451, the television walls. I personally think it's a shitty idea.
hoopesk2
Kudos to MS for their business drive. That's the way it should be if you want to keep yourself at the top. They're getting prestige label games, aggressively expanding their online options and keeping things relatively creative to capture the casual audience. This may or may not be MS's year in terms of games but I think they're preparing ridiculously well for the long run.
As much as I love my PS3, I wish Sony would atleast repay that in kind. Piddling updates, hardly any content worth doing the money maths for, an unexciting interface (well, props to them for the customisation though, atleast if the background looks boring, I've got no one to blame but myself :P) and basically, just not enough games. There are good games yes and heck, MGS4 managed to blow me completely away, but I want more. Call me selfish, but there are two other fantastic products on the market giving back a whole lot more to their consumers. Resting on the laurels of piecemeal additions and free online gaming is going to lead to a downward spiral. I need to see real aggression from Sony as a business and creative entity.
Chupakun
@WEGGLES90: First, stop paying for themes. It's so ridiculous. They sell them b/c people are willing to buy them. They offer no added value.
Also, I read an article either here, Gizmodo or Joystiq that stated the themes will still be used in the new interface.
But seriously stop buying them.
Spartan1308™
@SilkRevolver: I hear what your saying...
Chaospluto
How many times did he say Xbox 360?
Spartan1308™
what about all our themes we've bought? will we be issued refunds for them, since they nerfed them? or will we beable to choose between blades or this?
WEGGLES90
Leigh you flower child you
LittleBigPlaneteer
Those things on that other box.
You can play them on the Xbox 360, our console. It's called the Xbox 360, and you can find it in the box on the shelves labled "Xbox 360."
Sparden
FFXIII versus will still be a PS3 exclusive... so call me crazy when i say i will buy it on the console that will have both version. Just like DLC for GTA4 got people to buy the 360 version. Just a thought.
gnudna
@gamadaya: I thought Kaz was pretty civil so far. What did he do again?
slomo788
@gamadaya:
Probably not.
Did anyone enjoy watching Nintendo circle jerk one another at their E3 conference last year? Or Sony's several years of E3 bragging? Very few.
Then again, it's one thing to brag about being #1. It's another thing entirely to brag about having a very tenuous 2nd place while losing in every territory outside of the U.S.
Gitaroo_Dude
@gamadaya: Not just the HDDs, the wireless add-on. I'm sick of using my laptop as my router. How's that "wi-fi ready?" No doubt that they still have some work (well I don't think it's a lot of work really), but today they really shook some ground. I don't think anyone expected that. Too bad they didn't focus more on that "New Live Experience" instead of screwing around the first hour. Barlow had one sentence spot on: it feels really good to own a 360 right now. Hope Sony delivers tomorrow...
slomo788
Hey Leigh... can i have my mic back :)
gnudna
@slomo788:
Are you kidding me? Did you forget about Kaz? Everybody smack talks. Even Nintendo, although I will admit not as much.
gamadaya
@Jun581 likes street fighter 2 but he really hates zangeif, ...:
Yeah. I loved how this guy referred to MS's competition as "that other box." Was he talking about the PS3? The other box with built in WiFi, a reliable Blu-ray drive, and the ability to use proprietary hard drives?
gamadaya
@Jun581 likes street fighter 2 but he really hates zangeif, ...: Oh yeah I totally understand. But to be fair Tretton isn't a nice guy either. However he is the only one in the Sony camp who really smack-talks. MS's PR people seem to do just that.
slomo788
Next time, Leigh, ask him something from way out of left field. I wanna be able to compare and contrast how he thinks and acts naturally versus when he's reciting some memorized junk.
jsf49
@GrandfatherParadox:
Not to mention that they have to make affordable HDDs. All the actions MS is taking seem counter intuitive to what their platform is capable of.
gamadaya
@gamadaya: I did like J. Allard. Yea he promoted his system and that's fine, but it was nice that he said the competitor's name by...you know...thier name.
Jun581 likes street fighter 2 but he really hates zangeif, only Ken and Ryu, but finds it hard to be Blanka!
That logo intro had me in awe. I just watched the video again just for that...
XeroTrinity
@slomo788: Yea I know he's not Greenberg. But with Aaron yapping his mouth, you can understand why I said that comment regarding a microsoft employee. But yea, he's no where near Aaron.
Jun581 likes street fighter 2 but he really hates zangeif, only Ken and Ryu, but finds it hard to be Blanka!
Would anyone besides me actually respect MS and their spokesmen more if the acted a little more humble. I know the argument is that they are paid to promote MS, but I think that a little humility might actually do that pretty well.
gamadaya
@GrandfatherParadox: That was one of my first thoughts, as well. Lots of new content being pushed for digital downloads, including High Definition movies, but now with more and more throttling being pushed by the ISPs in the great frozen north, I'm worried that I'll have to start my downloads in the morning before work just to be able to watch them when I get home.
nick.soapdish
What's up with the first guy's eyes? Some people become robots in front of the camera. This guy is one such person. Just talk like you're not reciting some canned marketing material, okay? It'd look less douchey.
jsf49
@Jun581 likes street fighter 2 but he really hates zangeif, ...: Nah Aaron is another ballpark. Barlow was borderline offensive but he didn't go berserk. Greenberg's comments are not PR speak, they're fanboy rants.
slomo788
He looks so excited, I'm actually kind of scared.
everybest
Also, what's this 1 button that we use to watch these movies? Is it A? I bet it's A.
(maybe X)
gamadaya
I notice that MS is still pushing digital downloads.
With companies like AT&T throttling net service regularly, this is never going to happen.
MS needs to step up to the plate and actually start *making* the infrastructure for this kind of service.
NA is literally about 5 years behind countries like S. Korea in internet service.
GrandfatherParadox
FF12 for xbox 360 instead of ff13 will be an icing to the cake of this otherwise eventful day.
venkat55
Final Fantasy XIII is coming to 360?!
...........This is the end of days.........
TheGuilty1
Leigh could totally kick Veronica Belmont's ass in a fight.
+1 vote for new Qore host.
Braham
@SilkRevolver: He and Aaron Greenburg must be drinking buddies.
Jun581 likes street fighter 2 but he really hates zangeif, only Ken and Ryu, but finds it hard to be Blanka!
FF13 wouldn't help 360 in Japan, it's still PS3 exclusive in Japan.
>__>
sean09
@tOPO80: Yeah but it's pretty safe to assume that Japanese gamers won't be able to play FF13 on the 360, right? Unless of course they WANT a 360 so much that they import it...
slomo788

HOLY SHIT. Leigh is a girl!?! I always thought she was a guy with a weird first name. I guess she's a girl with a weird first now, but damn. Today has been full of surprises.
gamadaya
Leigh, you look so excited! Has someone been getting into the happy pills again...?
I kid, I kid. Good reportage! I'm looking forward to more of these as E3 goes on. As well as the Kotaku version of To Catch A Predator, where you lure execs into playing games on rival consoles and then bust them red-handed. Perverts!
freakout
This guy reminds me of a car salesman. Really fake type attitude. But, hey...I'm excited for the game and features, not the person hyping me on it.

This guy is such a marketing tool. Its like I am watching an infomercial. But atleast he kinda sounds like he know what he is talking about.

@Moonshadow101:
Yeah, sorry that Nintendo crushed all the conventional thinking that comprises the industry, and that MS is making a poor attempt at tapping into the new market.
Obviously, this attempt to copy the channel idea with Mii and Home integration will SKYROCKET MS to first place.
