Is This An Animal Crossing Wii Hint?
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 2:00 PM on July 3, 2008
While nothing's been confirmed, chances are pretty good that Nintendo will announce Animal Crossing Wii. Hey, it may not! We don't know, but like we said, chances are good. In the latest issue of the UK's official Official Nintendo Magazine, there's an image of Animal Crossing for the magazine's E3 promotion. A caption reads:
It's Been A While! It's time to revisit an old friend. How's your village doing these days?
Pretty sure we'd be more surprised if Nintendo didn't announce AC Wii at E3.

I tried playing this on the DS after numerous friends' recommendations and I just couldn't get into it. But perhaps on the Wii I'll give it another go. It will be interesting if they add something via WiiConnect24...

@Thono_Sakurai: okok I got your point, chill out. I share the feeling, this is probably the year that I have played less games since the one when my SNES was squashed with a bowling ball.
But then again I only own a Wii so if I want to play something different from eons-old franchises and shovelware I need to abuse of my friends hospitality...
Just sayin'...of course I don't envy you at all, no sir!

I'd also love for them to somehow put the DS functionality in it. Loved the island thing in the GCN/GBA connectivity.
Hope they can still promise the phone/computer function of sending messages to friends homes. I could go out and eat, knowing my little bro was playing AC (he doesn't have a phone) and text a message to him or something for fun.

Because Nintendo can't do anything besides what they've been doing for the last ten years or so, Microsoft can't release something outside of FPS and MPORG and Playstation contently sells BlueRay players without caring about games at all. Off course I'm exagerating but save a small number of games, that's it. What can I say, I have all three consoles and I end up playing in the old consoles most of the time

I want there to be more options for terrorizing other people's villages online. Likewise, a variety of defensive measures to prevent this. It would add a whole new dimension to the series.

Animal Crossing is a clever series. I'm just hoping they've really come up with some new, compelling experiences for this iteration, because it really hasn't been that long since Wild World came out for the DS. I'm not in favor of sequels just for the sake of sequels. Give me a good reason to make a new Animal Crossing, and I'm in-- and no, console online play is not enough by half. That should be the minimum requirement.

Would they go back to the acre setting from N64/GCN days?
Or would they somehow fit it into a double screen "see the sky" setting again?
Any thoughts?

actually kinda hyped for this, i lost an entire season to fishing and paying off Tom Nook (and looking for NES game codes online). when you think about it, friend codes and crappy online actually lend itself well to a small village of 4 or more, and that's the one thing the game was begging for back on the gamecube - it worked great with my roomates who had varying schedules, but ever since we went our own ways, its roachville.
this could be really cool, looking forward to the announcement.

I hope they also introduce a Wiimote attachment that's basically just a little SD card reader on a three-foot cable so that I can put my DS cartridge in and play in my DS village on my TV with slightly upscaled "480p" graphics.
Man, I really also hope that in addition to friend codes, they force you to enter your friends' social security and credit card numbers -- and even then, just to be safe, they won't let you write letters or communicate through any tangible words.
I also hope they disable use of the shovel in other people's villages, so that someone can't come into my village and spend an hour writing "FUCK" in my garden.
Really pumped about this game! I've already shaved my head and contacted my tailor about making me a full-body suit out of non-lubricated latex!

@minimelo321: I would be happy if they bumped up the visuals. I realize and understand that Animal Crossing has a certain style, but I would really enjoy seeing some more polygons and higher-res textures.
also, I would love to see the towns have much more of an elaborate layout like they did in the movie...with hills, and actual forests, and such. all on a larger scale. ALSO! they need to have the animals interact with each other on a higher level rather than having the odd conversation.
oh, and more Variety in houses. It would be neat to see animals have houses that on the outside reflect what region of the world they hail from, and on the inside reflect their personal tastes, whatever that may be.

If Nintendo can figure out how to make Animal Crossing Wii work with the 24 Connect feature on the Wii, I'm going to be all over this game. One of the biggest problems I had with the DS version was that nobody could visit your town unless you had the game up and running. I'd love to be able to come back after a day and find that friends had messed around with my town while I was gone.

I really hope that they will let you import your towns from the Gamecube or DS Animal Crossings. It shouldn't be to hard to do, I mean the Wii has GCN memory card slots, and it can connect with the DS. My family has spent years (and yes I mean years of fairly constant play) in that town, and I'd hate to give it up just because of a new Animal Crossing.
