Midnight Club: Los Angeles Misses Exit, Slips To October
Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:40 AM on July 4, 2008
LA traffic can be a real bitch, so who can blame Rockstar if there two newest Midnight Club games are a little late getting there? Originally scheduled for a September 9th in North America and September 12th in Europe, Midnight Club: Los Angeles and its PSP companion Midnight Club: LA Remix are now scheduled to pull into stores on October 7th in the states, with a European release three days later.
The press release doesn't explain the reason for the delay, or for that matter even call it a delay. In happy PR land this is just a new release date, possibly even better than the last! I'm assuming it's the usual last-minute bug-stomping, extra polish sort of thing. That or they just really like October more.
Rockstar Games announces new release date for Midnight Club: Los Angeles on the Xbox 360® and PLAYSTATION®3 and Midnight Club: LA Remix for the PSP® system
Open-world street racing series debuts on October 7th and 10th in North America and Europe, respectively
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO) today announced a new release date for the fourth installment of its critically-acclaimed and genre-defining Midnight Club franchise, Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Set for release on October 7th in North America and October 10th in Europe and developed by series creator Rockstar San Diego, Midnight Club: Los Angeles will give gamers the unprecedented freedom to race through a hyper-realistic LA.
Rockstar San Diego has created a beautiful rendition of Los Angeles to race through at break neck speeds and explore at your own pace. With no tracks and no load times, Midnight Club: Los Angeles offers the ultimate freedom to play however you choose.
Also scheduled for release simultaneously, Midnight Club: LA Remix for the PSP® system will provide another incredible portable racing experience. Developed by Rockstar London, the game will take full advantage of the hardware to deliver the unrivaled sense of speed and style that the best-selling Midnight Club series is known for.

I'm glad they will have more time to add some polish to the game. It doesn't really concern me though. I was looking forward to the next Midnight Club game, but this will probably end up as a rent. After some thought, I don't really like LA. It is okay at night, but in the daytime it is way too sunny. The only fun part would be the highways.

So joystiq is like the Duplo blocks to Kotaku's Legos.

Shoot, I forgot to say something relevant to the subject material. My apologies.
I'm bummed that it's getting delayed but the game looks sexy and I could always use more fuel for the PS3, even if it's a ways downstream.

@DarthHater1137: The nose is at max 1.5 inches out, so I don't think that's too big of a deal. And better to have it up the collective ass of Rockstar Studios than, say, George Lucas.
Yea, I said it.
Yea.
What.

Midnight Club have been fun games. Especially well done on the PSP. Just seems they need a few more weeks of polish, or possibly finalizing localization.

To bad rockstar makes some of the greatest games gameplay wise.... Most of which take 2-3 years to develop.

@DarthHater1137: Don't be a troll. The guys at Kotaku aren't on the Rockstar payroll, and they're not drinking the kool-aid. There's just little to do about this story-- what do you want them to do, burn down someone's office? They don't even know why the game's being delayed. And the game's still a few months out anyhow-- in that sense, one more month's really not a big deal at all. You need to stop your whining before the banhammer finds you.

How bout YOU GUYS?!? If this were any other company you'd be crying and bitching about it. I swear, you guys have your noses so far up Rockstars bumholes it's ridiculous.

I'm looking forward to this game. The last-gen ones were all pretty good-looking, and had super-easy driving mechanics, so I'm keen for a bit of unskilled racing. But I'd really prefer having it sooner than later.

Usually, a last minute delay like that means either they didn`t judge the game was ready, or they failed their master submission and got rejected, which forced them to resubmit it at a later date :P
A laugh in both cases, really.

A big meh towards this delay. I don't think I've seen gameplay footage at all yet, which is saying a lot.

@DarthHater1137: Your opinion wasn't an opinion at all so much as it was just flaming. And you're certainly entitled to it. But in these parts, they ban people for posting stuff like that. If you'd had any evidence to back it up (at all) that might've helped. Or if you hadn't tried to assert yourself by trolling, that might've helped too. I don't honestly give a shit what your opinion is, son, and I'm not going to suggest you change it. What you think is up to you. But you either back up what you say when you slag the writers, or you'll wind up on the bad end of a Monday afternoon. We don't like trolls here. That's it.

Why do companys do that ? Don`t release a date until the game goes gold thats what i say. They keep releasing dates months ahead then push them back just makes people upset about it.

@DarthHater1137: Claiming that journalists, or bloggers, or whatever, have a pattern of behavior regarding one company isn't an opinion, though. Like if I said, X guy likes to have sex with chickens. That's not an opinion, and if I'm willing to make that claim, I'd better be willing to back it up with facts. Instances of just what I'm claiming. Because otherwise that is trolling. It's no different than the people who cry is this news at every post that's less than scintillating. If you want to make a comment that has absolutely nothing to do with the story and assert that Kotaku has a pro-Rockstar bias, you need to back it up with instances of said bias. That's all.

@wild homes is weathering cephalopod trouble!: I completely disagree. I have posted on Kotaku before and have never been called out like you did today. Only when I disagree with the main topic or general attitude of the poster do I get deemed a "troll." Note I said DISAGREE, not Derail, because I didn't derail the conversation. Calling someone a troll for stating a fact in a way that is contrary to your own is childish and a bad form of argument.
GTA IV IN MY OPINION is not that great a game. The driving was horrible, the game was slow, much of the fun of Vice City was sucked out of it. IN MY OPINION. And kotaku seems to just let that sort of thing go (horrible, show stopping bugs like dancing tugboats and assets blinking out) but call down the thunder when other games do it (remember when the Saint's Row 2 developers admitted that there MIGHT be bugs in SR2? Kotaku jumped all over that...) Admittedly, video game journalism is a joke, but I felt the need to call them out again.
Needless to say it won't happen again.
Awaiting my banishment...

I really only have 1 thing to say.
"Probably just polish".
Really, it is very rarely polish. Often, the issue is the Dev team is slow to fix things, so my money is on Bug problems. They are anticipating a bottleneck because of the dev team.
