More On Yakuza 3 And Its Idyllic Summer Getaway
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on July 3, 2008

A third, proper Yakuza game? For the PS3? Exciting stuff. So let's go over a few of the game's finer details. While we already know the game will be an immediate sequel to the second, featuring the same characters and the same storyline, what we didn't know was that the game's going to be taking a pleasant break from the streets of faux-Tokyo. While the game will still be based around Kamurocho, it'll be adding a "second city": island getaway Okinawa (or, at least, a fictional take on Okinawa). Toshihiro "Brown Man" Nagoshi talks up the addition, saying the addition of the island's resort lifestyle and touristy atmosphere - coupled with its "darker side" - will stand in stark contrast to the gritty, urban atmosphere of Kamurocho, and as far as the story goes "fits the bill perfectly". No doubt the location testing will also fit Nagoshi's sun-bathing bill perfectly, so it's a win-win situation for all involved.

Just remember that to get from Kamurocho to Okinawa, you have to take the 4:53 to Happy Hour.

So, we stil don;t have Yakuza 2. I guess we wait like eight more years for that other one, and then sixteen years for 3.

@AngelMayLaugh: Yes there is... for PS2. Well, this PS3 versions pretty, also the one for the ps2, but it lacks a little in content and gameplay. Lets hope it comes better.

Well, yakuza 1 isnt that big. Yakuza 2 may be better... but where he is? What would be great, would be the Shenmue remake! together with shenmue 3.

I didn't know there was a Yakuza 2. : (
Okinawa is an interesting place for the setting. I'd love to slash up some girls in bikinis and all of that.

Humm, i think i can't expect that much from this one... I dont know what was wrong with this ps3, but maybe they could send it to the market some year after and leave the dev teams work in games for it. I feel that the console could have more quality games, like happened with the first year of the pS2 :)
Ah, almost forgot that Sony sent the console in the rush to the market coz they wanted to have the "Cheapest" blu-ray player. Ah, right, right... their first objective was to win the format "battle" with Toshiba. :/

Wait, there's already a 3rd yakuza? I haven't beaten the first one yet!

I dunno if it's really fair for Sega to be talking Yakuza 3 when we still have yet to see Yakuza 2 or, more importantly, Kenzan outside of Japan.
But that's just me. I just have a thing for playing as Musashi and stabbing people in the face.

Sounds like GTA 3,and GTA Vice City. Nothing like a change of scenery to make things fresh.

@dead_red_eyes:
So do I.
I love the ones that are more of a realistic setting ... not Dynasty Warriors over the top magic and specials type.
More like Way of the Samurai, Bushido Blade, the new Yakuza for the PS3. Onimusha is as far as I go for more fantasy injection.

Yakuza 2 is coming over here to the states, and better yet ... the original japanese voice acting will be included on the disc!

@EnigmaNemesis:
Yeah, I never got into the Dynasty Warriors series, but Onimusha was great as far as a fantasy game set in the Edo period goes. If the new Yakuza for the PS3 was anything like Way of The Samurai or Bushido Blade ... I'll probably have a heart attack. We need more badass realistic Edo period games, that's for sure.
