Bethesda just announced that the Penny Arcade guys have created a series of comics based on their upcoming RPG (Bethesda's not Penny Arcade's funny guy) Fallout 3.
Over the coming months the strip will tell the story of Vault 77: One man and a crate of puppets.

Better make sure there's no references to "Orphine-May" or any other kind of proscribed "Ug-Dray" coming up in the storyline, or the OFLC will have a fit.

Hey, guys, do you know this isn't even a joke? Perhaps the next ones will be but these vaults really do exist in game lore.

Gotta love the PA. Grab volume 5 last week, loved it.
I think the problem some people have with PA is that they lack the context in which the comic was written. If you don't get the comic, you need to read the entries for that day to get the context. If you still don't get it then PA isn't your cup of tea and you probably think CAD is funny.
(CAD isn't!)

@dv8godd: Yeah, a thousand virgins sound nice for a while.
But frankly, after some time, I'd be craving for a pro.
@jsf49: Soo... basically, you don't get the comics because they don't follow the basest of all joke formats (PA often does buildup/punchline/extension instead of buildup/buildup/punchline) and you get lost? Or because you don't find an introductory comic hilarious in it's own right, despite it being used to set the scene for the next comics? Or maybe it is that as a topical comic, it's based on referencing extra events instead of being self-contained?
Throw me a bone here, I'm not sure what's the problem.

@jsf49: "Those people"? Why in gods name are you even on Kotaku if you don't like geeks? I mean...if I didn't like knitting, I wouldn't read a knitting magazine. So if you don't like geeky stuff...why the hell are you here, bothering to post?
Clearly you're anti-PA already, judging from older posts. Also you've been bitching about Kotaku editors, and god knows what else. So the evidence suggests you're just some troll. You know the "justify your game segments"? Well, justify your existence on Kotaku.

@dv8godd:
You beat me to it.
Virgins are highly overrated as desired sex partners. Who wants to hear a woman/girl who has no experience utter the words..."You want to put what where??". Not me, not ever. I'd rather have the adventurous type that likes to move around instead of laying there on her back like a dead fish wincing in pain.

nope, it would make it something else entirely...something that would involk a new level of horror...not yet known to man...
thankfully it wasnt though! and since it was puppets and not puppies, made me larf my arse off!

Those Interplay comics are gold. It's strange they actually had to be explained to people - i.e. gamers - on Kotaku. Do you know your history?

@PsycheE: Pffft. Virgins.
The last thing any man needs is a thousand virgins to deal with. Christ, that's a nightmare. That'd be like gaming with nothing but newbies... fun to frag for about 10 minutes, but after the honeymoon, it's all "where did you get that?", "what's this thing for?", and "damnit, that hurt!"
Ugh.
What you really want is just one woman who knows what the hell she's doing, not a thousand fumbling newbs.

Posted 10:34 AM 24/7/08
@jsf49: Dude, the humor is that they're comparing Interplay to a rat-loving hobo, which is just about where the company was at the time of that writing. the second one is that interplay is so desperate they're selling the rights for a dollar, and that to them it's as valuable as the spit. The one they did for Fallout three is funny because the vaults ARE that crazy. A vault with one guy and a bunch of puppets in a post-apocalyptic world is the punchline. Go watch the twilight zone episode Time Enough at Last. It'll give you an idea of the parody

@Gantz: Your Trusted Friend in Science.: Thank you for explaining how these are supposed to be funny?
From what I've surmised, the top cartoon is supposed to be funny because the word "puppets" was used.
One of the linked cartoons is supposed to be funny because of references to masturbation.
And the other linked cartoon, I have no idea what's supposed to be funny about that guy's jar of spit.
