PixelJunk Eden Brings Trophies For You And Me
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 6:00 PM on July 24, 2008
Excited about PixelJunk Eden? The PSN game not only looks purdy, but will have oodles of trophy support. Here, let's let Q-Games bossman Dylan Cuthbert explain:
PixelJunk Eden is a short-form PSN title so there are fewer trophies when compared to, say, a Blu-ray title (which can have the esteemed platinum trophy), but we still managed to pack in quite a few. To begin with, you can get a bronze trophy for opening every "seed" in a stage. This is quite a challenge on some of the stages as the gardens are large and expansive. Then there are trophies for a load of other things, such as destroying 500 of the "prowlers," or collecting 15 "crystals" in one jump. My personal favourite is a trophy that you can only achieve in 3P mode, where you have to "volley" a player between you back and forth five times without him/her landing on a plant, a bit like tennis.
Sounds great. Very much looking forward to this one.

Why does everyone make a big deal if games have trophies or not? I don't see a post about achievements for anything...

This game does look fun but - it's all very well and good the odd first party game having trophies, but for the system to succeed they ALL need to have them I feel.

@108: PixelPump should be the name of that game that's making that Half Elf Tentacle Assault game for DS. Sounds dirty.

@gomerkyle9:
There's been a (w)hole thread about it recently. The general consensus was that PS3 being Big and Black, it would probably hurt.

I have to say I somehow skipped all the info concerning this game so far, but I clicked on it now... and I'm charmed. It looks like the kind of game that I might actually allow Sony to penetrate me with their PS3.

It actually does look interesting.
You know, I probably would have bought all three of these games if the name they'd chosen for branding wasn't so . . . . . . . lower-middle-class British-young-adult paperback-novelesque.
"PixelJunk"; I mean, really, what the hell is that? It sounds so tacky. Don't put a word that means "worthless refuse" / "overused to the point of disrepair" in the name of your brand if you're trying to sell us on originality!
Let me try thinking of a name off the top of my head:
PixelTime!
How about that -- like, "it's time for pixels!"
PixelDay would be alright, as well, while we're on the subject of temporal periods.
"PixelPump"!
"PixelFace".
I mean, literally, any of these are better than PixelJunk.
Mathematically better.

Looks very appealing to eyes, although there were some parts of the video where I had trouble seeing the environment. Hopefully the color choices don't screw this game over, because the gameplay looks quite fun.

Im mostly wondering why you came in here and made such a "stealthy" (winkwink) comment directed towards trophies.
Anyway, Im really looking forward to Eden, I need my trophies!

Anyway, I'm waiting for the demo on this one. I watched the guys on the 1up show play it and it looked interesting but I'm not sure if I'd really enjoy it. Also curious about the price.

Ok, so I never played Racers, but Monsters was really awesome. I was seriously addicted to that little game for a while. It got hard as hell too.
So, I was definitly gonna pick this game up when it came out, cause I think it looks pretty cool. The fact that its got trophies and psp support makes it even better.

Aside from MGS4, PSN games are a huge reason I want a PS3. The PixelJunk games, Everyday Shooter, Fat Princess, and Flow specifically.

I'd like an option that opts you out of trophies and labels your trophy shelf to show that.
But that's secondary. I really want PixelJunk Eden and I haven't even picked up any of the others in the series.

Can't wait to check out the demo. If I end up buying this, I'll have more PSN games than disc-based ones. Hopefully the trophy patch for PIxelJunk Monsters comes before I get out of practice.

I love the ambient/dance style music to this game and the muted analogous color schemes - I feel like prolonged playing of this in the middle of the night by yourself (or with mates) will liken to a very aciddy trip...

This game looks fantastic, very reminiscent of the games you find online that can eat into hours of your time. It's nice to see more games like this rather than graphically focused titles with lackluster gameplay.

i really dig the minimal/micro-house soundtrack. i wonder if it's all original or if they licensed songs from Kompakt/Playhouse/Perlon/etc. labels. Anyone know who does the music?
