Pokemon Platinum Dated For Japan
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 2:00 PM on July 11, 2008
DS title Pokémon Platinum details are divulged in the August issue of CoroCoro comics. Besides announcing official Japanese release date is September 13th, there's a bunch of new details like a new "Wi-Fi Club" area that's able to hold up to 20 folks at once, a new Team Galatic member, new international police member, a "Battle Recorder" that allows trainers to record and share battles, and Dialga and Palkia appearing simultaneously in story.

@muffinmcmuffin: I guess it's a nice addition, but- unlike Starcraft, you could basically sum up Pokemon battles in text form. I've tried to watch Pokemon battles online, but I usually just end up fast forwarding to the end... I don't find it fun unless I'm playing
To each his own I guess.
By the way, does anybody know what the "Wi-fi club" is all about? Is it just, like, a hub?

Although it'll be awhile (a long while) before it's absolutely necessary, I'd love a revitalization of the Pokemon series. Sure, an MMO would be nice, but for the "core series" something fresh could end up being fun.
Oh well I'm not complaining. Besides, I'm most likely gonna buy this one anyway, seeing as how I've missed out on Diamond and Pearl.

It's probably like Pokemon Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. There just all add-ons. Aka its Diamond & Pearl with a few extras. That's it. Same game, more crap. =)

You can always count on Pokemon to put out an awesome portable RPG, so yeah, I'm pretty excited. Platinum looks different enough to get me hooked once again, which means a few months stuck in my DS. Becoming a Pokemon master is always fun, so it's probably worth yet another purchase.

I want them to make a 3D pokemon game, like use the engine from Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, and have battles in 3D with nice animations. Now it's just "use tackle, shake, cause damage".

@zkotaku:
I'm not really understanding your post. I don't understand what you're saying about Gameboy, and I don't know if you're asking if Platinum is for Wii. It's not.
What I'm getting from your post is that you want a full Pokemon game on Wii. Portability is a always nice. Pokemon on the go is a must for many, although it would be cool to play through the entire game with Wii graphics on a TV. It might lose it's charm and feel, though. I can see battling/trading with friends rising as a potential problem if one of you doesn't have wifi. I say keep it portable.

Meh, I'll buy another Pokemon game when they actually put some effort into making an evolved and immensely improved game.
I have Red and Diamond and I'm satisfied with them, though there were still barely any meaningful core gameplay improvements between those two, despite the ten year gap. Not that they're bad or anything, but it'll take one hell of a big step forward for me to buy another.

@Murgatron: Well I knew platinum is coming to ds. Pokemon was originally on gameboy, but the name change to ds. I can't play video games while the car is in motion because i always get little motion sickness or should i say dizziness. Did final fantasy lose it's charm on snes, ps1, ps2, ps3, psp, gba, and ds, well it did not lose its charm at all. can't you use ds wifi for nintendo wii as well, I thought you could. It's kind of getting repetitive playing same pokemon game on portables. I owned every pokemon since red and blue to gold. that was end for pokemon for me. no more pokemon stadium i dislike as well. Well sorry, that is all I have to say about. Maybe I should tell gamefreaks company to stop making pokemon on ds and move it on to the wii. It just repetitive

Yeah, I'm definitely not getting this. Diamond was the first Pokemon game I had bought since the original Blue, and I was utterly stunned to find that it was the *exact* same game as Blue. i love the pokemon game cuz the rock-papers-scissors mechanics of competitive play is really deep for this game. sure some of the same moves are used over and over but the total combinations and the stats of those pokemon makes it really unpredictable. (except when u play wit banned uber-tier pokemon)

@Vanguarde: Ah, that animated GIF never gets old.
Seriously though, if any Pokémon title is released for the DS it'll do considerately well, owing to the fact the handheld platform is insanely popular in Japan. Even if Nintendo release a game where all you do is brush Pikachu's damn fur - it will STILL sell like hotcakes.

I love the pokemon games they got my girlfriend into playing computer games and because they don't rely on twitch reflexes it's a level playing field for me to play against my daughter and my partners mother.
However I am getting annoyed by the fact that there is no way in the UK for us to get "all" the pokemon. The last event was a mew one in about 5 cities and really badly advertised. We're still waiting for the Darkrai or deoxys events and there hasn't been a peep out of Nintendo about when they will be.
All nintendo has to do is open up the chance to get them over the wifi as an event. The possibility is there I can't understand why they will not use it.

Supposedly, you can search for trades on the GTS by country now, which means the Japanese players will be very happy (have you seen what they ask for trades? For... small things?), and there's a new Battle Frontier as well.
Eh, I'll probably buy it, it seems to have enough to suck me in again after beating Pearl, and it'll add some motivation to go back and catch some more stuff in my GBA games.

The "Platinum"..in the title sounds like its really going to be a good game. IMO, that's like the best title to give a Pokemon game.

I totally agree with the whole "Speed up the battle system" idea. They need to also speed up the game in general. I love D/P to death, but the battles are getting as long as the Stadium games, where a 1v1 battle with bidoofs can take over five minutes.
