This is Capcom's big E3 trailer for Resident Evil 5. Loads of gameplay, loads of the same alien bug things you grew to love in Res 4. As for the rest...the voice-acting at the start? Awful. The desert zombie biker gang? Awesome.
BTW... is that "El Gigante" at the beggining? So...those are the samples that Wesker took? And who's the doc at the beggining? Wesker gave him "Las Plagas" samples? Wesker is trying to bring Umbrella back?
Are we going to see Wesker? xD
Awesome game... long wait

@sanyo: Wouldn't be an RE game without a ridiculously silly villain though would it?
My favorite was the crossdressing aristocrat from Code Veronica. --- It looks like this has more open spaces which I like, though with the hordes of zombies and apparently the same control scheme, I have to wonder how the player will keep from being overwhelmed. Guess that's part of the fun.
Game looks great and I'm looking forward to kicking ass with Chris again.
That being said, I'm somewhat disappointed. I miss the old Resident Evil games, tank controls and all. The atmosphere just isn't there anymore. I mean come on...buying ammo? Would rather find it and for it to be sparse.
Would love to see at least one more traditional RE title, but with the success of 4 and the soon to be success of 5, I don't see that happening. Guess I'll just remember the old times while enjoying this game for what it is.

Can't say I'm very excited or impressed. RE4 was great, but this looks like all it did was make the graphics better. And it's not like the graphics even look phenomenal. Also, I don't think I'm the only one that wants RE to return to it's survival horror roots. I love the new camera and aiming system, but what's wrong with a little ammo conservation and morbid fear?
Sigh.... Resident Evil is now so far from scary and thrilling that it makes me yawn to even see that trailer. Here am I, hoping it will actually channel some scares. Resident Evil 4 was a great game, but nothing in it was scary. It was just generic action.
This looks like it may be able to get a few gasps if they utilize the enemies correctly.

Its not racist game because they are freaking hybrid zombies trying to it your brains.
Man, I hope they aren't calling this game survival horror, because this looks as far as you can get from it. Besides that, this game looks like more of four, and that isn't really a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. Still, I do wish that Capcom would make another traditional Resident Evil, because shooting shit up isn't terrifying at all.
You know what the scary thing about Resident Evil 4? That you were a mobile, ass kicking mofo and you could STILL get swarmed and torn apart like it was nothing. That's what's horrifying.
When you die in a survival horror game with awful control it's easy to say "This is bullshit, my character sucks." When you're playing as Leon and sniping people's brains out, kicking people's heads off, and whipping grenades like a pro and STILL can't escape or kill that freak with a potato bag on his head and his chainsaw, that's scary. Resident Evil 5 seems to continue that trend and I'm glad.

@Aethyr: THANK YOU! Those that said RE4 had zero scary moments? Ah yeah, the chainsaw ladies pretty much freaked me out pretty well. Not to mention when you thought you killed the Del Lago, at the last part it was going to pull you down with the anchor? Yeah, that freaked me out as well, so don't give me the BS that RE4 has no horror to it.
@DashTheHand: I have to agree with this sentiment. I know, I know, progress is a good thing but I feel like this has entirely left the original premise of the series. No, I'm not being silly and asking for tank controls again nor am I saying that the ability to aim is a bad thing. However, what I thought was completely captivating about the first Resident Evil was how deliberate the game felt. It was as much a game about discovery and exploration as it was about trying to stay alive and conserve your ammunition for when you needed it most.
What I see in the comments which I find really annoying is the prolific use of "Straw Man" arguments. DashTheHand's comment was pretty heavy handed but the replies that I've seen to him carry no more weight than his. The replies are borderline troll material. Enough of that.
What I want back is the atmosphere of the game. RE4 made me feel like Superman. Run around shotgun some people and move onto the next room - the game did not elicit the same creepy moody feelings that I got from the first of the series. Feel completely free to disagree with what I'm saying here (as I'm sure there may be many) but RE4 and RE5, to me, feel so far flung from the original Resident Evil that perhaps Capcom should've just started an entirely different IP.
@gamadaya:
*exciting
And I forgot to add a were in there somewhere, but that's not worth a correction.

@Aethyr:
@zomgYGGR:
Even if that's the case, and you did find RE4 scary (and I'll admit I was scared by U2 and Verdugo), it wasn't scary in the same way. With the original, you constantly tense, worried about shit that could happen 4 hours in the future due to the fact that you used one too many shotgun shells in your previous encounter. That's what made RE scary to me. It was the surviving. I would actually feel a wave of relief wash over me when I got to a room that had no enemies and nothing exiting that could hurt me. I was safe for a brief, fleeting moment! In RE4, the emphasis was moved to killing, and it totally lost that original quality that induced total fear, not just scary thrills.
I havent been keeping up either but it definetly looks like Las Plagas (or a variant of them)
This would also make the title of "Zombie Bikers" incorrect even though saying zombie is much easier to say and explain than humans controlled by a parasitic organism that were dug up by an religious cult called Los Illuminados @Faíru:
@neojames82: I personally didn't say there was no horror, I said there was nothing to be terrified of. It kind of takes out the whole frightful ambiance of what a traditional survival horror game is about when you can mow down a wave of enemies with the right upgraded gun, and collect gold off the ground to acquire better weaponry and health.
Resident Evil 4 has little sense of putting escape over fighting, and simply doesn't have scary enemies. Hell, the environments were scarier than what that game throws at you. Pseudo zombies speaking Spanish creepily in the dark with some absurd farming tools and medieval weapons? C'mon. Even the mutated enemies like the Iron Maiden's and Garrador weren't scary because they could be easily dispatched depending on how you came to the fight. Your arsenal, wealth, and reflexes gauges how afraid you should be in RE4, not the game itself.
To be honest, Resident Evil as a whole was never truly scary to me, but the earlier ones were better at eliciting fear due to it's emphasis on: puzzle-solving, small item storage, limited saving, on site procurement (i.e not purchasing weapons when you run out of ammo), being less confrontational, no context-sensitive controls, no foreboding music to indicate danger, no laser targeting to secure accurate shots, and relying more heavily on suspense than action.
Resident Evil 4 is a great game due to its overhaul and freedom it gives to the player, but those very same freedoms and overhaul take the feeling of helplessness out of the player and makes them into a formidable action hero, not a survivor working with what they can find to survive within a dangerous situation beyond their control. It's not a bad game at all, the direct opposite in fact, but it's not scary to me and I doubt this game will be too with what I'm seeing.
I will never understand the people who want the old RE back. If they want a less action packed, more suspenseful game, sure, but the old RE games are the absolute most overrated, horrifically unplayable, sadistic pieces of trash I have ever played. Sure, they're scary, sure, they had good graphics and sound (when they came out, at least), but they ARE NOT FUN. Shitty controls, having to micromanage tiny inventories, limited saves, getting killed because you can't see what you're shooting, or can't dodge an enemy, random ridiculous puzzles that make no sense at all, and excessively high difficulty made worse by everything else I said. Try going back to play those games now. You'll see what I mean. If you still disagree, then fine, you are entitled to your opinion, even if it's a backwards one that would sacrifice good game design for a slightly scarier game.
I didn't know they got mike tyson for a voice actor.

Resident Evil is no longer a suitable name for this series. Biohazard makes 100 times more sense ever since RE4.
Anyhow, I don't think the voice acting in the beginning was awful, I think the facial expression of the guy just did not match the voice. He was not nearly animated enough, his eyes looked calm, he just opened his mouth idly when laughing, etc. Hopefully they brush up on that before release (as well as the people bouncing all over the place in the co-op demo they showed).
Looks crazy though. A bit disappointed that it looks like it doesn't have much to do with Wesker or Umbrella or anything, but who knows, the second half of the game could look totally different like RE4.

@Placentasaurus: Obviously we will not see eye to eye on this matter. Don't get the people pining for the atmosphere of the older RE wrong - they don't want awful controls or horrible "can't see" camera angles.
What they want is the atmosphere that the first game (and arguably almost every game but RE4 - sans Umbrella Chronicles) had. Those games felt very deliberate to me - full of suspense. I can run and gun in a lot of games, even if they don't have zombies.
And the new guy is totally Rattrap from Beast Wars. Don't really care for the accent - it needs a Japanese voice with subtitles (case in point: since when is "oo" as is boom pronounce with a fully open mouth?). Fairly nice design, though.
I actually enjoy the change in the series and can appreciate a franchise taking some 'risks' and changing the tone or style. Why should a series limit itself to one mode of game play, differing only in the story and some minor upgrades (both of game play - as in weapons - and graphics)?
While the story of RE4 may not be the best (Wesker's conspiracies and Umbrella in general are sorely missed) the high-levels of action and overall feel of an adrenaline-rush more than make up for the lack of scares. In one light, each game plays to its strengths of taking one subject and greatly increasing the intensity. For a majority of the series it consisted of anxiety, anticipation and 'fear', for RE4 (and presumably RE5) it's more about action and strategy. And pirates. (There are actually a lot of pirate references, from the dealer, to the little Napoleon guy, to the friendly 'buddy' whose name I can't remember - looks like it's time for yet another playthrough of the game; and yes, I understand the irony of being too lazy to simply do a search as opposed to playing through a 10+ish hour game - it is a damn good game after all).
Think almost of the difference between pre-N64 Metroids and post-N64 Metroids. The approach is different, but each game can be appreciated on its own.
And here's some more worthless rabble about utterly nothing for which I just feel like typing about typing. Woot.
And as 'controversial' as presidentrich's comment may be, in terms of a cult pop culture reference, kudos. Bring on the Mad Max fun!
Ugh, March 13 - Way too close to the dreaded, hated day that is March 15. This is just going to be terrible waiting for RE5 the way I waited for Brawl. The exception is that I'm going to be as excited for RE5 as I am scared of booting the game up. This trailer was excellent, can't wait.
@otimus: xD ooooops..you can play with the gamecube controller on the wii version?..*eats words*..lol..guess if i kept it long enough i'd figure that out..hahahaha..*is dumb* xD
I'm actually.....really disappointed. Sure, the graphics look fantastic and there's plenty of action, but the art direction has to be the worst in the entire series. Ohhh, a war-torn desert city environment! Where have we seen this before? If I was just shown footage of this without the game title, it could be mistaken for any other generic war game. The RE series used to be known for it's unique environments. Now it looks like just another gears of war/COD 4/Resistance/MGS4, except with zombies (and they don't even act like zombies!). At least the setting for RE4 was unique and interesting. Dammit, Capcom, you got me all excited with the original trailer with it's African environment, and then you go and do this. I hope that's just a small portion of the game and there is more variety that we aren't being shown yet.

@Placentasaurus: They were (and still are) tremendous fun, says someone who only got into the series in the past couple of years and has been playing through them all very recently. There are occasions where the controls and camera angles make the game frustrating, but everything else (the limited ammo and saves, the inventory management, the exploration, the puzzles) are what define the series, and are a huge part of what I love about it.
RE4 made a lot of changes to the formula, but only the camera and the controls are unequivocal improvements. Everything else feels like they just threw the baby out with the bathwater - made a load of unnecessary changes that took the series too far away from its roots, as if this somehow equates to "progress". RE4 is a brilliant game and I'm glad they made it, but I'd dearly love for them to make another actual RE game with a similar engine.

Like above people have stated, I don't pine for the horrible tank controls and bad camera the originals have, no more than I'd want to have PSX graphics for RE5.
What I was stating was that the "creatures" from RE4 and now 5, no longer feel like what zombies have always been classified as, ESPECIALLY from what the Resident Evil/Biohazard genre originally portrayed them as. You know what, I would even be willing to accept more agile zombies that could somehow sprint and climb over these goofy beanstalk sprouting zombies. They just feel so adverse and out of place to the whole genre that it should have been its own series based around Scientology.
In addition, the survival horror aspect seems so lost now that it feels like it will never be recovered. Before you got to play as people going into the unknown, not knowing the zombies were there, basically trying to get to safety with their necks intact once they realized that the dead were coming back to life. Now in RE4/5 its like you're going into a bear's den with a steak around your neck and a cattle prod to see if you can get mauled. The zombie infection doesn't seem to be massively spreading across the world (like most zombie genre stories portray a doomsday would be), and Chris and Leon seem perfectly content to be like: "Oh, zombie land? Yea its pretty cool. I'm going there on vacation next week. Want me to bring you back a t-shirt? Yea, the lines are pretty long, but I got a speedpass."
@Mit: Its the standard Zombie-rule. They aren't smart enough to do things.

@Channing: You have to admit that a lot of the "atmosphere" of the first games was because of the horrifically clunky control style and the tiny inventory.
Actually i remember being genuinely freaked out at times during RE4... when you were stuck in that mid-air crate in the dark with that monster, and towards the end there's a part where you're walking up to a refrigerator and out comes a flaming zombie... closest I've ever been to shitting myself.
It looks like they just used the RE4 system and tweaked it a little bit. So it's just new environments with old gameplay system. :(

Here am I, hoping it will actually channel some scares. Resident Evil 4 was a great game, but nothing in it was scary. It was just generic action.
This looks like it may be able to get a few gasps if they utilize the enemies correctly.

@DashTheHand:
I have to agree with this sentiment.

@zomgYGGR:

@gamadaya: This man knows what he's saying.

And yes, that voiceover is freakishly bad.

@Placentasaurus:
Obviously we will not see eye to eye on this matter.
