Rock Band 2 Preview Shows Journey, Foo Fighters, Motörhead And More
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:20 AM on July 2, 2008
Eagle-eyed members of the ScoreHero forums have given us some insight into the track listing for Rock Band 2. The alleged new additions were spied during an X-Play preview of the recently announced Rock Band sequel and dissected by the ScoreHero community. The new selections are strong to say the least and include new songs from acts like Journey and Foo Fighters. Even better? An indication that even more songs from The Who are en route, as "Pinball Wizard" looks to make an appearance.
The list, with a best guest at the performing artists is after the jump.
"Panic Attack" by Dream Theatre or Finger Eleven
"Chop Suey" by System of a Down
"Give It Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Everlong" by Foo Fighters
"Kids In America" by Kim Wilde
"Ace of Spades" by Motörhead
"Hello There" by Cheap Trick
"Anyway You Want It" by Journey
"Pinball Wizard" by The Who
Keep in mind that these things may not be set in stone and are subject to change so consider this ru... OH GOD! JOURNEY! MOTORHEAD! AAAAAHHH!!
Small Song List on X-Play for RB2 [ScoreHero Forums - thanks, Max!]

While we're doing "Kids in America," why not add a little "Walking in LA"? I loves me mah silly 80s musics.
Whoo! Everlong! Awesomeness... Here's hoping for more Foo tracks on disk or for DLC! I'd personally like to see some of the acoustic versions of their songs in the game.

Hmm, good songs.
Chop Suey's a bit overrated, though... and Ace of Spades is almost played out by now (still a good song, though).
Judging from these songs and Guitar Hero World Tour's artist list it looks like the inevitable songlist battle will be one of epic proportions!

Maybe it's my OCD talking, but Rock Band 2 would be perfect if they could find a way to let us rip or download the songs from Rock Band 1, so we never have to quit and change disks, even if we get Wave of Mutilation stuck in our heads.

"IGN: Here are ten bands I want to see in RB2:
Agent Orange
The Beatles
Built to Spill
The Buzzcocks
Journey
Led Zeppelin
Modest Mouse
Pavement
The Replacements
Tool
Based on this list. How do you think I would rate RB2 on a scale of 0-10 (ten making me a happy reviewer and zero making suicidal).
Teasdale: Not only have you named some of my favorite bands, but you've also named some of the bands that are on the Rock Band 2 disc. "
Well, this confirms that one of the bands listed in the IGN interview article that is in RB2 is Journey. Here's hoping Pavement is another one.

@massnerder76: Notice the "2" next to the new songs. Now notice the "X" next to the songs that we know are Rock Band DLC, and keep in mind that there is no difference between DLC for Rock Band 1 or Rock Band 2. Also, this aired when XPlay was previewing Rock Band 2. Using some inductive reasoning, it should be safe to assume that the songs listed are from the Rock Band 2 disc.

Panic Attack - Finger Eleven

No comparison.
However, the list is sorted by difficulty, and I'd actually put the Finger Eleven song in the same bracket with most of those. Which is a shame because it's terrible. There are plenty of older, better Finger Eleven songs to choose from. Back when Scott Anderson was bald and singing ditties like First Time.
Anyhoo, here's hoping I'm wrong and it is Dream Theater.
The rest of that list is awesome.

@PeteCarrollInACage: Hell yes!
Despite how much I love RB1 and how it has revolutionized the music games with its dlc and drums (yes I know about drum hero), A lot of the "classics" just don't do it for me. People bitch about there being too much new stuff but I feel it's quite the opposite. At the risk of getting majorly flamed I would really love some linkin park, more muse, some thrice etc. As far as song selection goes, world tour seems to have more my kind of music so far. Although the investment in all new periphs and losing probably 60 bucks in dlc, might make it not worth the switch.

With my musical taste, both RB2 and WT are shaping up to be eargasmic experiences. I'm just glad that 'Anyway You Want It' is finally becoming a band experience, other than it's solo effort in GH.

Well now, that certainly seems to make up for Pinball Wizard's absence from the Who pack. Hell yeah to Kids in America and Ace of Spades too. Actually, I want lots more Motorhead, when somebody gets around to it.

God I hope they put more indie up for RB2. As has been said, Modest Mouse and Built to Spill would be amazing. If we could get some Dinosaur Jr. in there I might just shit myself in glee.

What I want to know is what sets this game appeart from RB1?
i mean here i am having a great time n' all, and outa nowhere comes this announcement for RB2 in TWO months. WTF?!
How do I know this is not just a scheme to take our money just for a new list of songs and more room consuming peripherals? Theres gotta be more to it. Sure the drums are more "realistic" and silenter- but how will they play now? Is it still only 4 pads? Shit c'mon.

It better be Panic Attack by Finger Eleven because that song is my favorite, until they sold out with their latest album. Eww... System of a Down and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rock Band and Guitar Hero really need to stop copying off each other.

Oh man, I must have cursed myself by thanking the Lord that System of a Down Syndrome wasn't in Rock Band, guess I will have to put up with their wizard-y posturing bullshit in order to complete the game.. Hopefully they will never put Nickleback or I will have to quit playing!
PS. Wizard-y - see Gedde Lee, Gowan and Yanni.

Note also that this is the "solid" section, ie late-mid section. There'll be at least 2 sets of harder songs above these, and 3 or 4 below... and there's 9 TRACKS standard in the tier. So, if there's 7 difficulty segments, there's 63 tracks, and none of them are marked as bonus so there'll be about 20 more there. There could be 90 tracks on disc!

Someone on ScoreHero who allegedly got to playtest RB2 posted this list, but it was deleted by ScoreHero admins quickly after because it broke the NDA or something. Dunno if it's real or not, but a few of the songs match up with those shown on X-Play, and Harmonix did announce that they were doing playtesting now...

Awesome, awesome songs....makes me wonder what else they have in store.
Call it wild speculation, but I wonder why decided to use a "2" icon for the songs in RB2.....rather than just some simple stylized icon for in-game songs like in RB1. Would that mean there's also a "1" icon for songs in RB1? Could it be that they'll allow an import for all the songs in RB1? *droool*....if that were the case, Harmonix wasn't kidding when they said everyone would just play RB2.

Ugh...I'd rather have something a bit older that those, myself. Images and Words and Awake are their best two albums IMO.
Anyway, I will be genuinely surprised if this turns out to be DT's Panic Attack. My money is on Finger Eleven. Which is really too bad.

@Maxyboy13: I thought something about that pic looked odd. The difficulty is now rated out of SIX instead of nine.
@Ber'Zophus: Call it even wilder speculation...but could HMX be looking to release the RB2 song list via the Music store?
Thus you have the choice of spending $60 for updated features and a full assortment of songs...or sticking with RB1 and downloading a few here and there you want from the RB2 set.
That would explain the "2" marker. It's the store's way of saying: "Hey, you can buy this song. But heads up it's in RB2".
No wait, that doesn't make sense...as there's a score sitting next to it. WTF?

They probably didn't get mentioned because they are both DLC for RB1. That was probably some DLC from the first game that transfered oh-so-seemlessly into the second one.

@Ber'Zophus: If you look at the Icons next to 'More Than a Feeling' and 'All The Small Things' they aren't the same of the others, there a almost star like, unlike the number 2 in the others. So, it seems Harmonix have managed it. :D

@Ber'Zophus: I'm guessing the "2" just means its a second tier song. The screen tells us that the songs have been sorted for difficulty AND that these are "Solid" level songs. Right now, "Solid" is tier 3, but if they are condensing the tiers from 9 to 6, its reasonable that Solid could now be the name used for the tier 2 songs.

Surely that Panic Attack can't be Dream Theater . . . although their stuff has been sorely lacking in GH or Rock Band thus far, Panic Attack would be literally impossible with a single kick pedal. those little triplets in the intro alone would be bloody hard with a double kick!, but ONE?!?, well, there was only one john bonham, and he certainly won't be playing rock band 2, unfortunately.
So although I would love for there to (FINALLY) be some DT on one of these games, i don't see how this could be passed as playable, if expert has a note on each hit, like it should, there would be better choices im sure, even on the same album, the root of all evil would work better, especially for the drums,
just listening to panic attack now and theres no way on earth you play that with one pedal. . . unless they plan on releasing a kit with two!
