@stoneagedan: Microsoft definitely play things a bit closer to the vest of late. Over the last two years they seem to have become a lot more guarded. I'm not surprised at anything they chose not to show, save for maybe Halo Wars not appearing at the presser.

The newest Splinter Cell is the curious one for me. I would have liked to hear about it-- at least, perhaps, confirmation or denial of the rumor that Ubisoft scrapped the game completely and are rebuilding it from the ground up.

I'm not surprised at the Microsoft no-shows. They've recently seemed to have taken an approach of only showing exclusives that will be released fairly soon after (Gears 2, Fable 2, for example), perhaps as a result of the fiasco which has dogged Too Human from it's first E3 showing. They didn't show much of what we can expect for 2009; here's hoping their big absentees (A.Wake, Splinter Cell, and Bungie's two-or-more things, if the weekly update is to be believed) were kept back until the current crop of exclusives is out of the door. I'd rather announcements came as last minute surprises, than deal with Sony's constant tease-and-delay method.

On the plus side though, Dawn of War 2 did show up, and I like to think that the Eldar Teaser was hinting at Tyranids. Logic dictates Chaos, but I want to take something... exciting? from E3.

Old e3 really blossomed for the presses and the public that could attend. 05/06 they had giant sections for Nin/Son/Mic, along with other software companies. Although a bit hectic, they were chock full of stuff.

I don't have a PS3 but that game was a lot more enticing towards a purchase for me than anything else Sony has coming up.

Well, Sony did a piss poor whatever you call it. This is coming from a PS3 owner who has played MGS4 for the past month.
Overall the E3 has been a disappointment this year as if the major publishers and companies have realized that E3 is dying.

@der13manner: I used to paly tabletop back in 2nd Ed, and Chaos were a bit overpowered then. Felt a bit cheap. Main army was Eldar actually, but they were too micromanagement in DoW for me.
I did have a small Tyranid army, but of all the forces it's the one most improved in later versions. Nothing like a swarm of over a hundred 'gaunts taking on twenty marines.

Team ICO: I can't say I'm surprised there wasn't anything about it. They'll show us a few nice screenies when they're good and ready - and that may not be for years.

Most disappointing no-show? For me, Sierra/Radical's Prototype. After the profoundly mediocre Incredible Hulk game that was basically just movie merchandising, many of us looked back fondly on Radical's Ultimate Destruction, and forward to what seems to be its spiritual successor, Prototype. Was I the only one who watched that GameTrailers TV episode? This thing is shaping up to be all-kinds-of-awesome.

Maybe I've just got a shitty memory of things, but... Didn't Nintendo have BIG shows in the past at E3? Or were those always at other events (Spaceworld RIP)?

Another vote for White Kaniggit Story... I sent Crecente an email about this one a few days ago, asking if anything was shown. Never heard anything, so I ASSumed that either Level 5 didn't show up at all, or it wasn't shown for whatever reason.

Still, this was being touted as one of THE reasons to buy a PS3 and it's name wasn't even mentioned this year. Kinda reminds me a bit of a certain Polyphony Digital game for my PSP in that way... Odd. Hope nothing has happened to it because I was looking forward to seeing more of this title. As it stands now, I think Valkyria Chronicles has now surpassed it in terms of my anticipation.

I think some new screenshots made their way out a few weeks back, but I didn't see it mentioned here on Kotaku. Before emailing Crecente last week, I did a search for White Knight Story news on google and the screenshot news came up as being released roughly 3 weeks ago, but I don't recall which site it was on. It could have been old stuff and that site was just very late in posting it, I suppose...

I was really, really dissapointed at the lack of anything Beyond Good and Evil among other titles, but it seems like many of these developers don't see E3 as the event to show that kind of stuff anymore according to what I've heard around.

I dunno why...but one thing's for sure I guess the phrase "Nothing good comes out of E3 anymore" is pretty much set in stone.

Well the one good thing to take out of this E3 is that the critisism of the event and the individual conferences isn't coming from just a small niche group of gamers that they could pass off as just the whiny minority, it's almost universal critisism. All manner of blogs and even (in the form of hints often) major gaming publications online seem to be pretty critical of E3 this year so if anything at least these guys will know that it was unarguably crappy.

Definitely, the absence of Beyond Good & Evil 2 was pretty disappointing. I was watching the Ubi conference and at the very end of the conference there was this "omg" moment, when they announced the final trailer. I kept my fingers crossed and I begged for another BGE2 teaser, but instead they shown the first ever "I Am Alive" trailer.

Don't worry, we still have some conventions ahead of us. Let's see if they will show anything in Leipzig. Last year the whole conference was about about casual stuff and their "Games for Everyone". I remember how disappointed I was back then :P

I've got my hopes up for TGS as the event at which Kid Icarus among other 'core' Nintendo titles will be announced.

Given what Miyamoto said about E3 not being suitable for core announcements, I doubt they will leave wait till next year's show to let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.
