The Shocking Coffee-Drinking Habits Of Valve EXPOSED
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 5:30 PM on July 2, 2008
It's OK, everyone. Developers drink coffee too! While filming a vox pop piece in Seattle on the closure of 600 Starbucks stores across the US, local news channel KING5 inadvertently got the scoop on not only where Valve get their coffee, but who's allowed out for coffee runs and even what everyone drinks. As you can see, Gabe Newell does not fuck around, clutching what looks like a Venti Mint Mocha Chip Frappuccino. A mysterious "other guy" keeps things straight with a Grande Espresso Macchiato, while Doug Lombardi - who is surprised, but not shocked at the closures - doubles up on beverages, while lying on camera that it's for a "co-worker" to make him feel better about his cheeky afternoon "seconds".
Starbucks closing hundreds of stores [KING5, thanks Ryan!]

Eh, Valve is based in Bellevue. Us Seattle-ites take our coffee for granted. You off-worlders may be shocked, but I'm more shocked to find out that KING5 News did a story about video game developers.

I wonder if that shoulder-hunching reporter knew that he was talking to a man who is, relative to that of a local reporter, way more famous than he himself will ever be.

"I suppose so."
"Can you start by giving me your name?"
"My name?! Don't you know who I am? DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! I'm mother f****n Paul Lombardi!!" *he backhands the reporter*

Haha, coffee is the drink of ye gods for developers given the hours and concentration needed. I've been to a few software companies, midsize and startup, and no expense is spared (we're talking >$2k easily) to get a world-class coffee/expresso machine.
Although sometimes, it's still nice to make a Starbucks/Peet's run.
Freaking caffeine.

I have a friend who works at Starbucks HQ..He wasn't surprised at all by the closings..I mean come on, when you have a Starbucks facing a Starbucks then you know you have to many Starbucks! FFS it's a sign of the end of days when they finally build a Starbucks inside of another one.
..Oh, and it appears that I've actually met Gabe without knowing who he was.
I feel ashamed.

We all have our own stories of how it all started, mine? Well Back when i got my first Web Dev job we got a great cup of coffee from across the street every Friday, Mocha FTW. Moved on to another company and always picked up my drink of choice (Mocha) from a Pret in Glasgow city center before heading onto the underground. Now in my new work I'm drinking 3 cups a day of instant crap and looking forward to my Friday coffee trips to Nero, good times, good times.
@Bernard McGraw: Nice pic, I applaud you my good man.

People are really blowing this out of proportion. Everyone knew it would happen with the state of the economy and the rate in which starbucks grew.
Also, yes they are closing 600 stores, but guess how many starbucks there are in the US alone? about 7,000. I think there are 14,000 worldwide.

YOU CANNOT HAVE A GRANDE ESPRESSO MACCHIATO!
Damn it!
I work for them, and it's a cheap ass way of ordering a Grande All Foam Cappuccino, which is a lot more expensive than an espresso macchiato, which only comes in a short cup!
Stop bringing my work place into this haha

And anything involving coffee is great too. People love coffee and can relate to buying it.
Someone needs to get a candid shot of Jade Raymond pumping gas or Ted Price buying ice cream at the supermarket. Ask him if Resistance 2 will come out before the expiration date on the package.

Oh and Starbucks...WHEW! 600 closing only in the US. Canada is safe! I need my coffee in the mornings and evenings.
