There's One More Unannounced Blizzard Game
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 12:20 PM on July 2, 2008
Sure, they've laid Starcraft II and Diablo III out on the table in recent months, but is that all Blizzard got? No, it is not all they got. Speaking at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, Rob Pardo has told OnlineWelten that "there is still one unknown project" under development at Blizzard, being worked on by "another development team". Ooohh, whatever could it be? Your guess is as good as mine, though it's probably not as good as my dream, which can best be summed up as Lost Vikings vs Capcom.

All you can know at the moment really is that it's some sort of "Next-Gen MMO."
http://imapcsite.com/blog/2008/07/02/blizzard-secret-project/
That really isn't that descriptive though being most of Blizzard's titles are MMO's of some sort.

It's going to be something brand new because, let's face it, when was the last time Blizzard made a new IP? Seriously... when?

@Danin:
Original IP? From Blizzard? They haven't done that since Diablo and The Lost Vikings. I would wager that's a practical impossibility. Even all of Warcraft was completely based on another game. Diablo and The Lost Vikings is about as original as they get, aside from Rock N Roll Racers.

I'm going to say Diablo 4, or Starcraft 3. I'm also going to say please, Diablo 4, and please, Starcraft 3. That way, whilst the incontent masses spend the next eight years grumbling about "Blizzard have so much money from *successful game here*, why don't they make a sequel to *other successful game here*!", I can say I got here first and I started the trend.
Yes, let this moment be archived in history. The whining about a lack of sequel to SC2 and D3 began today.

Am I the only one that feels like World of Diablo would basically be WoW with far less variety?
I don't think Blizz. would go that route.
I could see World of Starcraft, Warcraft IV or, hope beyond hope, a new Lost Vikings.

My bet would be on either a Diablo MMO, or Warcraft IV leading into WoW II (Electric Boogaloo).
As much as I would LOVE for whatever catastrophic events close out the WoW storyline to be influenced by the players I can understand the desire or need to have an independant character driven story lay the groundwork for
WoW II much like Warcraft III did for WoW.
The same goes for a Diablo MMO, whatever events unfold in the core game and it's inevitable expansion pack could very well lead into a cross faction war for Sanctuary allowing Blizzard to keep the familiar "Alliance V. Horde" aspect that's done them so well.
The only reason I'm skeptical about the idea of a starcraft MMO is simple that everyone assumes and wants it to have cross faction play but it's simply not likely or feasible to do so.
Any Human, Orc, Tauren, Night Elf, Blood Elf etc...can wear a Green Iron chestpiece.
The same could not be said for equipment and armor for the Terrans and Zerg.
I guess it depends on what new story and character developments come out of Starcraft II.

Star-war craft: Diablo's lost roll.
Why the F#%$# so many ppl want rock & roll racing back? I mean... come on! Who the f#$% cares about this game anyway.
Now about lost vikings.
The 2d aspect of the game made it the game it is today..
There is absolutely NO chance at all that blizzard will release a 2d platform... A possible 3d version would change the game completely and i don't think they want to harm the name of such a memorable franchise.

There will be no World of Diablo simply becouse it allready has a multiplayer system embedded which works quite well. So making a MMO out of it whould be kind of redundant.

@A8acus:
World of Warcraft isn't holding the attention of the entire gaming audience. While its numbers are large, they are not covering the extreme majority.
If a Starcraft Online was released as a MMOFPSRPG for example, that would gather a lot of people to it that otherwisely wouldn't care about Blizzards foray into MMO developments. On top of that, Blizzard tends to become very stale with their MMO development. Being months upon months before anything new other than a few new items are added in. That's what Warcraft is started to suffer from right now. A lot of players wanting to look to another game because they are sick of playing fantasy based characters, or sick of Warcraft entirely due to the lack of things to do.

@DaveKap:
1998. Starcraft. Blizzard has dug themselves into a rut by severely overhyping their own trinity of games. While that will make the company financially successful for years to come *since it takes them forever to actually release a game*, it was also bad in that Starcraft can now be compared to Warcraft in storyline. Creativity within Blizzard is going down the drain, while the wait between releases is becoming rougher with the concept of Quality over Quantity.
The problem with the latter is that it takes Blizzard roughly twice as long as it takes any other multi million developer to complete a project. Why that is, I don't know. They say that it's for quality. Problem is that I have seen plenty of absolutely great games that take half as much time to develop from start to finish.
Blizzard will say things such as "Concepts and designs for The Burning Crusade were in development before we released World of Warcraft". While that might seem impressive to many, that only tells me that it took them over 4 years to develop 1 cinematic, 5 of 6 Areas and a lack of Illidan, much less his entire Black Temple. 4 years for that is monstrously slow. An armless orangutan could travel through the desert faster than Blizzard makes games.

Better not be a fucking MMO.
WC4, SC: Ghost, or the next Lost Vikings.
ANY of those would be absolutely insanely positively end-of-the-world awesome.
Also, I really think WC4 should be an RTS that completely ignores WoW (as in making WoW not canon) because really, 40 random adventurers (or whatever the raid size is) taking out Illidan, Kael'thas, Kel'Thuzad etc.? That makes no sense. At all.
But still, Starcraft Ghost, or WC4 being announced close to Diablo 3? The internets would implode and explode. At the same time.

Of course, I'd never believe this might have anything to do with the loss of all of the people within Blizzard that wrote the original content, rather than mutating existing information.

I can only see Starcraft MMO working if everyone is forced to be Terran. 1on1 PVP: Zerglings are too weak and Protoss too strong.
maybe the zerg player represents an entire BROOD that grows larger as he/she levels?
maybe the Protoss is an unlockable lvl50+ race you unlock like Deathknight.

My bet on a new IP. However, if it sucks, nobody here will never hear of it since it won't goes out to public.
Blizzard is mastering MMORPG, action RPGs and RTS. Could it goes in the overcrowded FPS market ? A comeback in the action-puzzle or racing genre. Why not ? Other area of the MMO are also underexploited.
If you ask me, I'm pretty sure that this other title isn't related to Diablo/Warcraft/Starcraft.

@Dennen:
Your point being ??? It takes them twice as long time as any other company to develop games ? Well fine by me. If their games, such as SC WC3 D3 WOW can be played by millions 5-6 years after the release Id gladly give them even more time to develop future projects.
They did not come up with any new IP recently ?
Well why would they if a game they create lasts for a decade ?
That is beside the point as they just indicated they are indeed en route to create a new IP.
Blizzard is by far the most respected PC game company there is at the moment (not anything I made up or not anything that has been measured by anyone)
Just judging from the amount of fanboy hype, troll hype, game press coverage, mainstream press coverage, 3rd or 4rth party programs, tools, songs fanboystuff etc.

@rainofwalrus: You must bear in mind that most WoW classes are based on Warcraft 3's Hero classes, which are all comparable, base soldiers of each army weren't always comparable in might but hero classes were intended to be.
I Know starcraft didn't have hero classes, but I suppose World (Or Universe) of starcraft could well just have a selection of "hero" classes. Though to be honest, I';d rather if Blizzard DID do a starcraft MMO that it wasn't a WoW clone set in the starcraft universe, It should play differently.

I'd kill for Starcraft: Ghost :D or Warcraft IV (but I really hope they just count WoW to be a big amount of "nothing but an alternate dimension" if so)

A starcraft MMO FPS sounds good, but they'd have to create a ton of new stuff to make it deep and appealing day after day after day. Just to list the guns that they could use that already exist in the Terran arsenal, you have the 1) marine rifle, 2) sniper rifle, 3) fire bat flamer even though it looks like they're gone, and then... What? Adding vehicles would be cool, but 3 guns is not enough.
...Or is it? For example, MGS4 has tons of weapons, and since there are really maybe 6 or so classes, how many weapons would really be needed? Just something to think about :)
