Wrath Of The Lich King Beta Sign-Ups Open
Posted by Mike Fahey at 7:00 AM on July 4, 2008
Now's your chance, World of Warcraft players! The Wrath of the Lich King beta opt-in button under account management on the World of Warcraft web page is now eagerly awaiting your forceful mouse button click. Yes, just one click is all it takes to throw your name into the very large hat Blizzard will pick from to determine beta participants. No word on when the beta itself will start, but I doubt they'd make the opt-in button live and get everyone excited if it wasn't happening anytime soon.
What are you waiting for? Head over there and signup! Considering the number of WoW players located in the United States and Europe, you might want to stop by the gas station for some lottery tickets while your at it, just to experience more favourable odds.

@Final: You should not be playing MMORPGs. Also; stay away from booze, drugs, and cheap prostitutes.

My account was "resurrected" by a friend this week. I have as much a chance of getting a beta invite as I do winning the lottery to afford my WoW addiction.
I like dem odds!

So I was able to sign up for the Beta even though my account has been deactivated since December '07... If I get a spot, I'd feel a bit bad, but hell I'll enjoy it! lol Not getting my hopes up though.

My name is Jason and I am a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game addict. I've been clean for a year but it's hard. Work, bills, wife aggro they all get to me and I want to play again.
It started with Star Wars Galaxies. Creature Handler and TKA, you know a super tank, but then SOE started to water down there own goods so I needed something more. I tried City of Heroes because I'm a comic book guy but it just lacked content. So then I come to WoW. It started with just a few hours a week, soloing my hunter on a PVP server taht was already established. It was only when I started my Druid that I got into trouble. It was on a new server and I didn't mind healing. Then came the Guild and Vent. I go from 30 minutes every other night to 5 hour raids... on the week nights. At my lowest point I was raiding 12 hours straight on the weekend and stealing from my kids piggy bank to buy gold.
I still get that urge. That voice that laughs at my tier 4/5 hybrid. That voice it's telling me I could have done more. That I could have been somebody. That I could have seen the sunwell, Downed Illidan and battled at Mount Hyjal.

It says my account is not eligible for the beta opt-in. Would that be because I have not played WoW since way before BC was released and all I have is one level 60 mage?

No way I'm getting it, especially not with it being such a random chance. If it were more like the WAR closed beta, they should have us sending in our Dxdiag reports and pick depending on toon lvls AND system specs.
Just my thought on it, anyways.

@Ethyn:
:) Not gay as in homosexual...Sorry I'm not too politically correct. I meant stupid. Not fun. Annoying to see sooo much info on it.
It amazes me that a game can drive people to spend real life currency just to get more in-game currency, or that people would go to the lengths of hitting someone with a keylogger to steal their password and "rob" their account. That, is no fun.

Hmm... I figure I'd have a better chance if I was still playing on the account I used during open-beta.
Alas, that was sold a few years back and I've been playing again recently but only since the start of TBC.

Well, I've bought and registered every single Blizzard product, sometimes multiple times (WC2 Bnet edition, "misplaced" SC discs, etc), and have never made it into a single Beta. I've even ranked on ladders with my accounts in some of the games (like WC3 pre-TFT) and have never been invited to the betas. I'm not sure who's dick I need to suck, but I'd love to get in one of their betas for a change.

I have been tempted though! Many a time... but have resisted.
I'll leave it up to fate to see if the hook catches me again.
Probably not though. My highest is a 63 on PvE that I gave three levels after the last expansion came out. A year ago.

@Jayl3w: That has to be, by far, one of the most idiotic, and offensive things I've ever come across. Because the only thing worse than using "gay" in a derrogatory and homophobic manner, would be sticking up for its use. It is not something to be "accepted." It's not the rain or fucking rush hour traffic. It's an insult to a group of people that did absolutely nothing wrong to you. It's an insult to them that they're equated with the word stupid, and it's an insult to them that you stick up for it.

@Jayl3w:
Um, no, people don't have to accept that.
It's ridiculous that a term to describe a group of people is being used in a derogatory manner. Your acceptance and perpetuation of it doesn't do anyone any good. It certainly doesn't do the person saying it any good, because it merely exposes that person as an immature tool, and it doesn't go gays any good, because it continues the stigma that being gay is bad, which makes it tougher for gays to get basic rights like the ability to marry and start a loving family.
So no, you don't have to accept it. In fact, it would reflect much better on you if you didn't.

@Ethyn: Okay, in today's 'net, you have to accept that the term 'gay' or, as I like to differentiate the two, 'ghey' doesn't apply to one of homosexual orientation. It's generally used as a term of dislike or disapproval, regardless of wiether or not you agree with that.
And to anyone of a homosexual orientation who has a problem with that: Are you ashamed of who you are? No? Then stop giving a frag what everyone says about you, it's your like, not theirs.

@Bishmon: @MykalBloom: And here comes the group who strives for everyone to have a right to an opinion and choice, yet demand everyone think exactly the way they do because they don't like the way things are.
Yes, you do have to accept it, you don't get a choice in the matter, sadly enough, since all the ranting, moaning, and QQing you do is going to meet that perminant brick wall called It's Not Your Damned Place To Choose How People Talk. You don't, in fact, that makes you as small-minded and anal-retentive (heh... I made a funny) as the people you claim are wrong. Interesting way to see it, isn't it?
Do I personally use the word gay? No.
Do I think people have the right to say anything, I repeat, ANYTHING they want? Yes.
So, which one of us is the bad guy?

@Bishmon: It's a perversion to think that nobody, even those of an opinion different from mine, should be censored?
Wow, good to know intellectual idealism and thought is so alive and kicking.
It's always been better for people like you to plug your ears and say everyone else is wrong then it is to listen to a conflicting point of view, and thats fine, I can understand not wanting your ideals challenged, but don't claim I'm perverting anything because you don't like it.
Welcome to reality, we have pie.

@KirbyMorph: Email them and tell them, dude. Companies tend to appreciate long-time fans. I should do the same, I've got every game of theirs since WC1.
I got stickers from Rockstar Games just by emailing them and explaining how I wanted a couple stickers for my car, and explained how I've played their games since the original GTA.. :)

Urgh, there go the current forums. Sucks that the forums need to be wiped, not only is the population quadrupled, but the forums become bastardized with idiots who just keep spewing in and making posts about how broken and unfinished the game is. At least with this the NDA will finally level out and people will shut up.
Enjoy!

New character classes are exactly what WoW needs to keep going. I've put many hours into the game since launch, on and off, but the same old classes are getting a little stale. Can't wait to try out the new ones in the Lich King.

There's only one and I can almost guarantee you that the class alone will not keep you interested for long if you're already sick of the current selection, it's more of the same - except a bit more boring imo. It's the content you'll be hooked on, trust me, plenty of lore filled quests and goodies to be experienced!

@unmarkedone: I guess. I'm just insanely sick of playing in the same static world. Sick of Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff.. you know? I've had a WoW acct since June 2005... played as both Alliance and Horde (mostly Horde especially now). I wish some worldwide changes would occur. That's the big problem I have with MMOs (and any modern games), the world itself is always effectively static, with some dynamic stuff layered on top. The world needs to change, plants need to grow, cities need to expand/collapse, the habitats of creatures should change... That's my #1 big criticism, I guess. Maybe my expectations are high, but... things are progressing verrry slowwwllyyy ...! :P
