There are some exclusives for the 360 that I just don't understand. Like that Naruto game. All consoles get the random yearly fighting version, but only the 360 gets the "adventure" style game. Whats that about?

I hate this response from Sony, and I've read other Sony executives trumpeting a similar party line. When they say that they don't pay for exclusives, or don't look at developers working for other consoles, they're telling me (the consumer) that they're not working as hard as they can to get great games on their console.

Complete disregard of game developers work on different consoles is not just a slap in the face to the console, it's an insult to the developers whose work is instantly dismissed by Sony.

Aftonbladet was pressing the same question repeatedly, unhappy with the response he was getting from Kaz. Unable to persuade him to cough up a satisfactory response, the interviewer slug out the "gun at your head, forced to make a choice situation." Such a situation would never occur over the issue of selecting a 360 exclusive, of course, so Kaz responded with an equally as ridiculous answer.

All things considered, I feel The Kaz gave a suitable response. Rather than being a jab at Microsoft, it felt more like a hint for the interviewer to stop pressing the same question and move on.

MS were very open about the fact they have a 'list of games we want', which had included GTA IV, FFXIII, RE5, and clearly still has MGS4 on.

Yes, the Playstation 3 doesn't need any Xbox 360 games...that's exactly why I haven't touched my PS3 since my 360 came back from repairs. (I bought my PS3 when my 360 had to be sent in for repairs, seemed like a good time to expand my gaming horizons...I regret it immensely.)

Hmm. Notice how "news" is only one of the three types of content Kotaku writes on their site. I personally take that quote to mean something a little broader; something like "Game-related content gamers may find interesting". Sony Computer Entertainment's President & Group CEO says he'd rather get shot in the head than take an exclusive from a competing company. I find this interesting; I'm sure many others do as well.

Third, show some respect. Kotaku's editors don't write articles for us to complain about the type of articles they write. Yeah, there's money involved, but I'll bet there's a part of each editor that writes these articles because they enjoy it. Don't accuse them of having a lack of judgment for material appropriate for the site they work for.

Fourth, lighten up. Kotaku's free. The lack of "news" you speak of in this article isn't hurting anyone, and no one paid for it. Other's may like to read this game-related article, whether it's news or not.

In summary, maybe you could try hitting "back" instead of "submit" after writing your complaint of non-news sometime. Word on the street is that you may be able to find something considered "news" on Kotaku's main page.

If you look at it as more of a Japanese businessman's way of looking at things, the company he works for is his lifeblood. It's what he's supposed to wake up for in the morning, to make sure it (the company) lives on, thrives, so that in turn, he may as well. So 'living the company line' is probably much more embedded into his outlook than it might be in other, less insular cultures.

So while his western counterparts would probably look more like assholes had they said something like this, I think Kaz can at least get away with it simply because of the business culture. Now, had this been a more candid affair and the question was posed more like 'Say you had the opportunity to have any title that's currently on the 360 exclusively come to your system, are there any titles that impress you or would have any benefits to the PS3 and it's user base?', and he still decided to say something like this, I'd probably call him an ass too.

Well... I guess all I can say is, I'm sure glad Kaz doesn't make all the decisions over there. Don't get me wrong, I love my PS3 and what (few) exclusives it does have. Ratchet & Clank is always fantastic, MGS is MGS and I can't bloody wait for my copy of Siren to show up - but that doesn't make me blind to awesome content elsewhere.

On the 360, there's one title that always made me jealous of of the Microsoft gamer: Bioshock - and I'm really, really pleased it's coming to the PS3. Good thing no one asked Kaz if it was a good idea, 'cause he would have given the wrong fucking answer.

Just as BioShock came to the PS3, so to will Gears of War, after the contract with Microsoft expires.

So Kaz does not have to make a choice, build it and the games will come to your platform as long as you keep eating away at the opposition's market share. Currently, the PS3 is only 7.8% behind Microsoft. In another year's time that margin will be reduced further and there will be less reason to have Xbox 360 exclusives or PS3 exclusives.

Most of the worthwhile games on 360 (to me) have/will come out for PC, and usually involve improvements. Those being Gears, Mass Effect, and Bioshock. NG2 is the only one I can think of offhand that I wouldn't mind having a port for PS3. All the rest.. well, either multi platform, or just plain average to me. On the other hand, the PS3 games that I enjoy so much (MGS4, Uncharted, Ninja Gaiden Sigma) won't ever see the light of day on PC, otherwise I'd buy it for PC as well.

I'd still like to pick up a 360 sometime but.. for now I've got my bases covered.

While I think that all this PR talk is worthless BS, I kind of have to agree with him. For me, personally, there are no real MUST HAVES for the Xbox that I can't get on the PS3. Halo 3 would be nice just because the wife likes it, but we get along with Halo 2 just fine.

Everything else is similar to something I can get on the PS3, or already has a PS3 version.

I'm not sure if it was a trap, seems like a pretty harmless/common question, but regardless that was a really poor response. Sounds like he was just sick of talking about exclusives all day and got a little snappy. I guess I can understand that.
Any other day he probably would have just said something like 'we would love to have all games released on as many Sony platforms as possible in order to give our players the most complete gaming experience possible', or failing that a complement to a good game while steering the subject towards the PS3 exclusives that counter it. 'Gears of War 2 looks like it has the sort of hardcore multiplayer experience that would go nicely alongside titles like Resistance 2 and MAG'.
I don't like Sony but that doesn't make their people incompetent enough to give hostile responses like that without a reason.

I think the PS3 could benefit a lot more from some of the good XBLA games. A friend of mine was forced to get another 360 after he switched to PS3 because his fiancee wanted her XBLA games back. @FP_slomo788: Actually, I think the way the interviewer asked the question, one could interpret it as asking what game that's on the slate of releases for the 360 would you want on the PS3 instead, and Kaz is simply looking at it in those terms-- what the PS3 has coming out in the future. The fact that he says launch on the PS3 instead makes it seem almost like he's looking at upcoming releases, which is definitely not the same as Kaz acknowledging that Saint's Row was awesome in 2007.

He said that his library is rich enough for him not to feel the need of getting the 360's games. If anything it's a cheap shot at MS's practice of buying exclusives, not a shot at the quality of the games itself. There might have been a better answer, but this was not the worst I could think of. Besides, he has cheered Nintendo before for being successful. I'm very curious what a MS rep would have replied in that case (they already bashed LBP for being "unsafe"). Personally I WANT them to be as different as possible, because I hate having consoles "collecting dust," considering how expensive and powerful they are this gen.

As an interviewer, you give your strongest-seeming questions a couple of shots, but if your subject keeps turning them aside, you move on. Just because Kaz didn't word it exactly the way you might have liked, doesn't mean there's a real 'slam' in there hiding beneath the surface. He's not a robot. He's just a human being.

Its up to the developers, but I think its wrong if people make a game exclusive, then switch it over after it already came out. It makes the whole "Only On PS3/Xbox 360" thing seem... retarded. But as for Bioshock, well, I never wanted to buy an Xbox to get it, even so, its a good game, and I'm glad its being thrown on the PS3.

At the very least, he could have said 'well, we're proud of our highly successful exclusives like metal gear, ratchet and clank, resistence, uncharted, etc, so i think we're at an even playing field. microsoft wouldnt need any of our exclusives as much as we would need them.' Or even a comment that can be turned around to promote a game like 'i would normally say i would love to have a monster exlcusive like gears or halo, but we do! and their called 'killzone 2 and resistence'.

Bottom line, I think the way he answered that question was like a cheap shot at Microsoft, which isnt called for.

Once money is introduced, greed follows, then there will be compromises on so many levels during the game making process, just to fill someone's pockets.

What a stupid thing to say when your "fantastic lineup" consists mostly FPS-games, or games that are still far in the future. We know that both next Gran Turismo and LittleBigPlanet will most certainly be good games, but games like Killzone 2 are so overhyped that I have no reason to believe that they will be anything better than Haze, or Lair, until proven otherwise.

Reggie says that he wants to see GTA on Wii, Microsoft obviously wants PS3 games for Xbox 360 because they are getting those games to their platform.

Exceeding those PS2 numbers could be little bit difficult if he thinks that his lineup is fantastic already.

Any company that doesn't have appreciation for at least something about the competition just doesn't really care about the business they're in. If there were no 360 titles that made money I could understand. But considering Halo3 and Gears each out sold everything on the PS3, the proper answer should have been one of those titles. A Microsoft executive should feel the same way about Metal Gear. If this is the best Kaz can do, he should quit his day job, move into his parents basement, dress up like his favorite character and start a "I heart PS3" fanboy blog.

Good PR is meant to make your company look good and sound knowledgable. It should also promote your product and not cause any anger to others. This failed that tremendously so anyone who says 'this is good PR, what's he meant to say as an answer?' clearly doesn't acknowledge this is fail. I know it's probably a question you have to phrase carefully but he's payed for this shit so he should know how to answer a question without failing.
