Legendary Gets Release Date, Preorder Bonus, Graphic Novel
Posted by Mike Fahey at 9:20 AM on August 2, 2008
Gamers eagerly awaiting the chance to chop off a werewolf's head in the middle of an annihilated New York City will be getting their chance next month, as Gamecock Media Group announces a September 30th release date for Spark Unlimited's fantasy horror shooter. Along with the release date comes news of the pre-order bonus, an attractive Legendary art book, complete with a DVD filled with trailers, behind the scenes looks, and general eye candy.
Even more exciting that the art book, Spark Unlimited is also releasing a 96 page graphic novel detailing Deckard's fight against the Black Order, written by none other than Legendary comic book writer Mark Waid. See what I did there? It's a double meaning. Accentuated with a capital letter. Is the weekend here yet? Look for the graphic novel to hit around the same time as the game. Look for the box art after the jump!

I'm going to be cautiously optimisitic about this one. Hopefully they throw a demo up on XBL and PSN to get a taste for it.

That box art is practically SNES-bad.
Look. Hire a designer. A real one. That's precisely the kind of box that doesn't stand out when you're looking through the game racks at your local store. It's muddy, busy and not even the goddamn title pops out at you.
The covers on the other thingies in the first picture is much, much more likely to make someone pick it up and look at it, at least.
Gah.

Where the hell was I when this was announced? Also, is it me or did that 'Skate 2 amateur vid' article just vanish from the site? Finally, am I just losing it or what?

another FAIL by atari, this needs to be a third person shooter, perhaps like underworld, even give the guy a sword or something.
but watching the vids it's another lame FPS oooh but with warewolves.....riiight, if they had made it a horror game that would be good but it's like an FPS version of gears of war. put dante in there and bump up the gothic horror and I'll buy it, but as it stands it looks meh.

Video game devs are becoming more and more like gangsta rappers every day, which is awesome.

Every time I hear or read about Gamecock, all I can think of is how rude and unprofessional they were when Ken Levine was trying to accept that award for BioShock.

@ddollar: At the Spike TV video game awards Ken Levine was giving a speech for his Game of the Year award win for BioShock. The Gamecock guys, dressed as chickens, crashed the stage and took over his mic to promote their company.
From the blog of Sam Kennedy (of 1up):
"There was one really annoying moment in the show, though, and I'm curious how it'll turn out when edited for tonight's broadcast. I had seen some of the Gamecock guys walking around in costume earlier in the night and was wondering what the deal was with that (apparently Spike allowed them to be there because they had some cosplayers at the show and these guys sort of fit in with that). Anyway, just as the final award for the night was being given out to Bioshock for Game of the Year, the Gamecock guys rushed up on stage and hijacked the mic for some self promotion. So not only did they steal the limelight from the very deserving 2K Boston, but it threw off the pacing so that Ken Levine didn't even get a chance to say anything (as he approached the microphone he was already being ushered off stage). Gamecock's anti-establishment attitude can be cool at times, but this was a pretty dick move."

Yeah I'm definitely wary of this one. I heard about this about 6 months back when i was hyped for TP:FoL (because I just love Alt-History settings). That game was so bad I couldn't play past the fourth stage.

Excellent! I've been really excited for this title. Every video I see about it just heightens my anticipation. Now it looks like I'll have to pre-order it, natch.
Just what I needed for September, though, as if I didn't have enough on my hands with Too Human, Infinite Undiscovery, and Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise and Tales of Vesperia to deal with. Maybe I can take a whole month off of work...

I've been looking forward to this game, and I can't give a real reason why... It started when I looked at the AI trailer though. I liked how the werewolves would throw up their arms when shot, and roll behind cars and debris to flank you.
I also like the idea of a shooter when you're up against few big creatures, instead of the "normal" slew of mostly human-like enemies.
Here this is the trailer that sold me the game. [www.gametrailers.com]

Turning Point is one of the worst games I have played in a while, and an IGN podcast labeled Legendary as a bad game, so please don't buy this crap.

Turning Point was a different team.
Lots of developers have multiple teams inside of them, which is why you may love some games from your favorite developer and then occasionally get one that makes you scratch your head. (It certainly happens where I work!)

I have never seen anything from this game - not footage, not writeups, not anything - that said "I can safely preorder this game".
I won't touch it until the reviews are out. I'm not entranced by werewolf acrobatics, and I could give a rat's arse about some of what I've seen - but I love the concept behind the storyline and the setting.
And Turning Point was awful and broken. And it was deemed as releasable. A company should take the credit for the products it does well, and the blame for the ones it does badly; and right now, they're not so hot in my books.

Yeah the fact that Spark is developing Legendary is kind of worrying after there work on the atrocious Turning Point but I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. The producer had stated in EDGE magazine that they had to make Turning Point in 13 months, so obviously it was a shit game. Hopefully they've had some proper time to develope Legendary as the creatures and story looks and sounds cool.

It's not that bad. It's just a little too gritty, like most games are trying to be these days.
