More On Bioshock's PS3-Specific Trophies
Posted by Mike Fahey at 5:00 AM on August 5, 2008
It seems that BioShock PS3 designer Tynan Wales' last post on the official PlayStation Blog left gamers with the impression that all of the achievements for the PS3 version would simply be the ones from the 360 version. Not so, says Tynan, following up said post with another, revealing two gold trophies unique to the PS3 version. The golden pair, both of which could be unlocked simultaneously, are "A Man Chooses", received after beating the game on Survivor difficulty, and "I Chose The Impossible", which is received for doing the same, only with Vita-Chambers turned off.
See? They plumbed the very depths of their imaginations to deliver these two platform-specific trophies. Amazing!

Those aren't achievements; they're "trophies."
That's not a gamer profile; it's just "profile."
This isn't Xbox LIVE; it's the "PlayStation Network."
Just admit it's a port, and release the damn thing!

@Amazon_Chris:
I'd like a harder mode. I got the Brass Balls award almost entirely using the a powered up and unbalanced wrench.
This might be worth a rental in this case.

I think I might have to pay a second visit to Rapture...
I don't think they should charge 60$ for this though. Considering what it costs on other platforms.

My thoughts are this; This is a game every gamer should play. I'll be fine with my 360 version (may pick the PS3 version down the road) I am just glad the PS3 people can finally play this amazing game.

@rapt00r: It's part of the PS3 exclusive DLC "Challenges". Basically they are seperate from the story part of the game, and make the player utilize different plasmids and such to complete the challenge.
I believe this one involves getting to a Little Sister that's on top of the ferris wheel. Could be wrong on that part...

@Killa_Charlie: Unless somebody beats me to it, I'll say that's probably one of the non-story mode challanges...maybe you remember the "save a little sister from the crazy ferris wheel gone INSANE!"...sort of a bunch of puzzles you access from a menu screen.

@rapt00r: There was some mention of additional puzzle-type levels (you use your plasmids to move items/solve puzzles/etc.) being included in the PS3 version, IIRC. Probably something from one of those levels...

lol Just release a touched up 360/PC version for the PS3 at $29.99 or even $39.99 with Trophies and then get to work on the sequel. I am glad it's coming to my PS3, but like a lot of other PS3 owners we played it on a 360 or PC...well about a year ago. Call me a negative Nancy or whatever, but I just don't see this doing too well on the PS3. Just worries me they might be using this version to gauge interest and profitability of the sequel appearing on the PS3.

I will be glad to play the game on my PS3 but why hype the 'not too much effort in coming up with new trophies' deal. It would have been better left unsaid as the trophies are not much of a big deal. it's not like they added more levels or made some uber-effort at something for us.

@DeadlyCyclone: I disagree. Although the world of Rapture was hauntingly beautiful, with a deep and thought-out history, the game play itself was junk. I thought the AI was bad, where they just ran straight at you (treat it like Mass Effect, and stand in a doorway/narrow hall and kill them as they come to you). And the guns were just crap.
I bought the game, played for a week, stopped it to play something else, and never had the urge to put it back in.

@hlfx: I agree that it doesn't sound that thrilling -- but I didn't think that Portal sounded all that great on paper either.
I'll probably pick this up at some point just so I can experience Rapture on my HDTV as opposed to my small PC monitor.

@Killa_Charlie: It's the DLC they announced. It's a level where you need to get a Little Sister in the top cart down by moving the ferris wheel with whatever electricity you can get to it, i.e. electrified bolts, electric buckshot, electric gel, and the level has very little ammo around.

@Providence: Fear for 90% of the 360 userbase as well.
@Mitch Cumstein: A sequel and a port are two completely different things and I doubt anyone would use a port as an indication of whether a sequel would do well on a system, IMO that's just plain idiotic. Compare the two:
>Sequel to one of the best games in the last decade, brand new, just released.
>Port of one of the best games in the last decade, a year old, plenty of opportunities to play it elsewhere.
Simple comparison but still...

i have to admit... i got bored, never finished it. obviously it's just me, though, the store i brought back my copy to was like "sweet ! this will sell in the next five minutes!"
I thought the story was moving vveeerrryyy slowly, and i don't like the 'frustration' kind of plot (come here, ah, no, first you activate this random shit in order to progress in the plot). Very atmospheric, and wonderful at describing rapture, but i thought not much was happening (though i heard the ending was great). i stopped the level after the 'artist'..
and i fucking hated the plumbing.

I'm pretty sure this isn't part of the plasmid challenges. They mentioned adding a carnival room and one other room I can't remember right now. So I would assume this is part of the carnival room, also, both those achievements/trophies exist in the 360 version. They're called something else, but I just beat it and went back to try it on hardest difficulty and no vita-chambers...and it's hard...really hard...
