Sony Online Entertainment Fan Fair Reg Extended
Posted by Brian Crecente at 6:00 AM on August 5, 2008
The 2008 Fan Faire is right around the corner and Sony Online Entertainment just announced that "due to record breaking response" they've decided to... extend registration. Wha?
SOE tells me that they currently have a bit more than 1,100 people registered for the event and that compared to previous years that is a "very strong number". If you were thinking about going to Sony's celebration of all things SOE, Everquest and MMO-ey, hit up the site to register. You can also register on site, though only pre-registered folks are guaranteed the in-game rewards.
The event is being held at the Las Vegas Hilton from Aug. 14 through Aug. 17 and registration will set you back $US 89 for the weekend or $US 39 for a day.
This year's event will include a second annual community address by John Smedley, a Gamers in Real Life breakfast and a chance to pre-order the Everquest 10th Anniversary Commemorative Book.
The full schedule can be found here.

Oh, Sorry. We're all out of tickets to Blizzcon. Hey! Why not take an SoE Fan Faire ticket instead. It's just as good! Really!

That is simply amazing. They got 90% of the SoE subscribers to show up?
*chuckles*

Does the 1,100 people register include the employees of the company? Because I can see the tumbleweed blowing through most of these games when I bother to log in.

I don't know, but I've been told, John Smedley's a dick.
I will never ever forget SOE for Star Wars Galaxies.

@GustavB: You do know that what ruined SWG wasn't SOE's fault right? They *had* to implement what Lucas Arts wanted. But hey, lets keep blaming SOE :)

If your expo (con, faire, whatever) can't outdraw a rural high school graduation, you have work to do.
Lots of work.

Whats amazing aboue SOE is how they are treating EQOA.
Depite having next to nothing as far as a userbase anymore, they still put out patches and in game updates for it, although we'll never see an expansion.
Any other company would have written the game off years ago and never looked back.

Let me rephrase that first point.
1. Source please. I find it hard to believe Lucas Arts is to blame. It does not excuse SOE from doing a horrible job at implementing whatever features you believe Lucas Arts forced down their throats either. I just can't picture George Lucas saying "hai guise, let's try and be more like WoW and lose our core fanbase over the next year"
(then again I can't believe he introduced Jar-Jar Binks...)

wait, look at this:
"will set you back $89 for the weekend or $39 for a day"
hows it cheaper for one day? like if i wanted to go wouldn't i just buy two one day passes? 39x2 is 11 cheaper than the 89 (unless its like 3 days or something ,im not sure!)
anyhow, its kinda a shame no one loves Everquest anymore, that game used to be king of the MMORPGZZZ (the z's are there to described how boring these games usually are)

@MehGinla:
1. Source, and 2. Doesn't change the fact that John Smedley acts like a tool on the forums.

Good question: With the success of Everquest why woiuln't they bring the game to PS3? I don't even play it, but that would seam to make sense.
