Leonard Nimoy took the stage at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas this weekend to iup the recently announced Star Trek massively multiplayer online game, Star Trek Online and introduce Cryptic's Jack Emmert.
I don't want to bring anyone down but I feel a little sad to see all these actors I grew up with getting so old; I begin to start thinking dark things I don't want to even consider... sorta like with my aging parents :( Any ways, that's something that will happen to all of us and seeing them like this, still active in the things that excite us about them highlights how important it is to leave (even live) a legacy if you can. Sorry for being such a downer :(
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Man dude. You are a deep one. I'm only 24 and since I lost my granddad I have been preparing for the worst type of pains life can bring you.
To be honest I fully understand that it is part of life and yet I know that when it touches close to the heart your emotions take over and all the preparation in the world might just go out the window. I only pray that when the time comes I can control some of those ghastly emotions.

@hezz05: Why do they all feel the need to state their names before they ask the question.
Is it just me or everyone having a ship seem weird within Star Trek Online? The vast majority of GREAT characters didn't have ships, they helped along. Why wouldnt I want to be Riker, Data, Odo, , or 7 of 9, or Geordi, or Spock, or Bones, where is that friendship going to happen. it's as if Kirk contacts Spock and says, "we. have. toexPLOre. that orange planet. right-over-there!... bring your ship and your crew, BTW"
I know Im not designing it, but, is it just me?

They're trying to do waaaaay too much. You can also tell from Emmert's comments that they're still in the design phase, much of which sounds great on paper, but just won't work in the game world. I'm anxious to see more, but I think it's very likely this is will be a fail.
Did anyone else think it was kind of cute seeing Mr. Spock correct the audience member on Shabbat? I forget that Nimoy is Jewish. I (unfortunately) always think of him as a Vulcan instead of just an actor. Just imagining Mr. Spock lighting a menora, spinning a dreidle, his pointy ears accentuating his yammukah. It makes me happy. :)
"Shalom, Captain. The Klingons are being illogical. And schlemiels..."
All kidding aside, he does seem like a heck of a nice guy. The Simpsons/Futurama people talked about how warm wonderful he was to work with each time he came out to do voiceover on an episode.

Leonard Nimoy is what made Civilization 4 go from being great to being fucking awesome.
I went to go see him narrate a concert in the DC Area, was a lot of fun. Seriously, has anyone ever not liked something he narrated? The old History Channel series he used to narrate were the best things on that channel. Ancient Discoveries, I think it was.
Funnily enough, I'm probably in the minority here, but I think of Nimoy moreso as the friendly narrator than as the Vulcan.

Is it just me who think that standards of smartness are slipping? Neither Jack nor the Exec Producer bothered to put a shirt on, and turned up in jeans for a webcast broadcast all over the world.
Not very professional, really. I mean I know these guys probably work in those clothes but still, I like it when someone makes the effort to look smart when promoting their games.

The game wasn't announced recently, it was more then 2 years ago if I remember correctly (at least thats about how long I know of it).
It WAS instead recently announced that it would appear on consoles.

@silasthemariner: The guy is wearing a t-shirt for the game. It kind of makes sense. I don't u/s why you'd care what the guy wears as long as he makes a good game, and he is wearing something that covers all the things we don't want to see. If you really care that much about what he wears, you probably aren't part of the intended audience for this webcast.

I knew there had to be a gem in there worth suffering through what seemed like days.. the audience q&a session at the end "How are you going to deal with griefffingg?"
I don't know if they're sticking with the same design decisions from the first time I heard about this game but the original idea was that you would have people playing as the crew. Everyone would have the option to go the command route but it wasn't the only choice.
Of course I haven't been keeping up to date so that may not be the case anymore.

Leonard Nemoy. Awesome guy. His family actually (used to) live in my town/go to my synagogue.
Cryptic seems to be nailing it with this one. Should blend everything perfectly.
