How To Make Money With Fable II Pub Games
Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:20 AM on August 13, 2008
The Fable II Pub Games are dropping this week on Xbox Live, a series of gambling games that will allow you to make money for your Fable II character before the game's October release. Definitely a nifty idea, but how does it work? According to Eurogamer, who got the down-low from developer Lionhead. Basically you choose a persona to gamble with using the Pub Games. Create one or create several, it really doesn't matter. Play the games, make your gold, and then - and this is important - buy Fable II when it comes out. The whole process falters if you skip this step.
Once you are safely playing Fable II, initiate a gaming session with a Gamemaster at your local tavern, or one of the conveniently wandering types found throughout the game. Start up a game, and you'll be asked if you wish to merge your in-game persona with your gambling persona. Once you agree, your Pub Games horde will be at your fingertips, and you'll be able to outfit your dog in the latest doggy gear at your leisure. Simple!

@BR4DL3I9H: Well I know that every house, dungeon, etc. will be for sale in Fable 2 so I bet getting alot of gold in the Pub games will pay off, maybe enough to buy some houses or so but in the big scheme it won't be enough to buy everything.

Is there anything stopping people from playing the game continuously and starting the game with enough money to buy everything? I personally will not be buying it, but i do plan to pre-order the game, so maybe if its free with a pre-order then i might play it.

I don't see how anyone can say this is not a good idea. Free games (with pre-order), free achievements. I bet if this was some new Card Game thats featured in the next Final Fantasy it would be big smiles and woots!

Does anyone know if you have to preorder before the pub games are released in order to receive the free doanload, or can I preorder anytime before fable 2 is released and still receive the pub games free?

OH by the way I picked up my download card and it says you unlock 15 items and 15 pieces of game art by beating the XBLA Pup games. So that is cool too. Not to mention I bet it has achievements too. For 10 dollars when you pre-order you get them which goes towards the purchase. This is a no brainer.

Is that something Peter promised? Maybe you get too much gold and then have to go to the grocery store and spend it on dog food, but the dog eats too much and dies..then your character feels saddness and goes on a murder rampage and kills his future son in law.I don't know,it's possible.

I remember wasting tons of time playing that dice game in Suikoden II, racking up scads of cash for my party. Enjoyed it so much that I started playing it in real life with a couple friends, as a drinking game. What the hell was it called? Anywho, these pub games seem like a great idea to me. Better than say, microtransactions.

I'm still torn on this. Don't get me wrong; I think that it's a brilliant idea from a marketing perspective. I'm just curious if the ability to get tons of cash in Pub Games before the release is going to tweak the in-game economy of Fable II. In a nutshell, will the fact that players will be able to effectively start with tons of cash mean that all prices in the game will be inflated? I don't particularly want to spend the points on this (800 MS Points, I thought I'd seen) if prices will be fairly standard and relatively easy to afford. But, if everything goes to a Lifestyles of the Rich and Adventurous pricing metric, it'd kind of piss me off.
Then again, I could just be thinking waaaay too much into this.

So basically, play the pub games and then play Fable 2.
Looks like I won't be doing that as I don't see the point in the whole "spend 10 real life dollars to have some extra fake life dollars in Fable" thing. I'll just make money as I play, as it should be.
I'm all for being creative, like ToV offering experience points for purchase. That's a cool new idea. This, not so much.

Though in theory its a nice idea, it could spoil the gaming experience for people. Part of the fun of playing an RPG is struggling for equipment (translates to cash) at the start of the game.
Though the Fable 2 team has been saying again and again that its up to you how you manage your game. Like for instance, since co-op is allowed at any time, if you choose to bring a level 50 partner into the world of a level 1, its your players decision. So I guess it makes sense

I have my code sitting next to my 360 just waiting for tomorrow. As others have said, it's free when you pre-order as long as the store has cards left to give out. I couldn't pass it up. I don't see myself sitting down just to play the pub games all that often, but free is free.

Interesting idea. I'm not totally sold on buying it stand-alone for XBLA, but I'll probably pre-order the game this weekend so I can get access to the games for free. I've been planning on getting Fable 2 anyway.
I'd think you would have to spend a whole lot of time with the Arcade title to really break Fable 2's economy. If the first one was any indication, there is going to be a lot more for sale than just gear such as houses and whatnot. Starting out with some extra gold could be pretty nice.

I like the idea behind it. I don't really consider it cheating in any way, though, because you're spending time in-game "working" to make the money. In theory, you'd be able to do this if you just purchased Fable anyway.
It's a neat little preview of what's to come and the fact that it carries over to the actual game is novel. I wouldn't want to see things like this for every upcoming game, but it's still a cool idea.

I wouldn't be too concerned about breaking the bank in the pub games. The odds are significantly in the houses favour and even the cheap houses in the game cost 15.000g The castle costs 1 million. You'll be lucky if you start with enough money to buy a house and a sword. There are unique items you can unlock and buy in the pub games like dog tricks and new weapons. Worth it for the 12 unlockable items.

I remember making Money in Fable... it wasn't that hard, and there where many different ways to do it.
the first one I tried was the realty trick... buy a house, put trophies on the wall (ups resale value), sell the house, break in to steal trophies, buy house again... etc...
The best one was the jewel trick... you run around and buy as many of one jewel as you could find... then go to a market and sell those jewels... once you have a stockpile of jewels, you can keep buying them and selling them to the same vendor...when you sell them, they will be worth big bucks because the vendor has none, when you buy them, they won't be worth much because the vendor has a ton of them...

What happens with this after Fable II comes out? If I just want to chill and gamble a little bit without hunting down the Fable II disk will my winnings (or losses) still go to or from to my in-game character? If so that would be kind of cool. Plus I'm always down for some gambling.

QUESTION. I pre-ordered Fable 2 at Gamestop through the website. It says they'll e-mail me the code to download the game. Do I get this e-mail after I pre-order or is it something I'll see in my mailbox when Pub Games comes out?

That's if you order at the store. On the website it says "Online / In-Store Pickup Customers: Codes and instructions for Pub Games will be emailed to you. Please provide valid email address at time of order. "
Just wondering since I've yet to receive any e-mail. I assume at this point they'll send it out tomorrow.

@Nside: Yeah, the Fable economy was just as broken as most RPGs. At the very beginning, you're struggling to scrounge up enough for slightly better armor and weapons, but around the middle of the game you have piles of money and not a damn thing to spend it on. GTA IV was the same way.
Hopefully PM's claims about how much it would cost to buy everything proves true, so that there is an incentive to make more money.

You don't get it for free unless you preorder from Gamestop? Well, that sucks for anyone outside the US. YEAH NICE ONE GUYS! CHEERS! I'll just pay the best part of a tenner for it then. Might as well buy some WoW gold whilst I'm at it, even though I don't play it any more.
That reminds me, I need to buy some more copies of Monopoly so I can take the money from that, keep it on my person at all times and have the edge if someone challenges me to a game, ever. It could happen.
Think I'll make my Fable 2 currency the old fashioned way... prostitution.

Ya, I understand what a lot of people are saying here about having a mass-amount of gold from the start might ruin the experience. But, if you guys remember, your characters have a limited amount of time to live before the grow old so grinding the quests for gold may damper the quality of life for your char. Anyways, if you want to own every building in a town, I don't see it happening without using Pub Games to get gold.
