The codes were released yesterday, the game wasn't released until today. Why would the codes work BEFORE the game was even released? The answer is that they wouldn't.

Sometimes I wonder if people stop to THINK anymore.

I pre-ordered with eb games online and have not received my code via e-mail. I just now spoke to customer service and they said "We are having problems with the codes and are trying to resolve the issue with Microsoft... I should receive the code in the next 24-48 hours." So a typical customer service "Non Answer" to a question. Did those that already have a code get them at the store? Oh and the free Pub Games promotion does not seem to be on the eb games website any more!

Typically those kinds of codes don't work right away. The CoD4 ones had the same problem for about 24 hours.

I'm sure this is just a case of the code batch being "activated" in some way. It's only what, 7:20 a.m. over on the West coast? I have a feeling that by the time us Eastern time zone folks are home from work the codes will be all set to go. If not, who cares? Bionic Commando is out today!

I just got off of the phone with the assholes down at my Gamestop (South Park Meadows, Austin, Tx.) and the guy told me that "yeah, we got five cards in on Friday and they were gone by Saturday."

Great, dickhead! Now how's about you go find more cards for the people who actually expect to get them AFTER the release date!

He actually told me I could call around to other stores to see if they had any more! I said, "No, I'd rather just cancel my preorder." To which he replied, "Do you want me to call the other stores for you?" To which I replied, "Yeah, that sounds like customer service to me. You go ahead and do that."

So, we'll see if I get a card this week or not. If not, that preorder is going bye-bye.

I tried entering my code last night, but got the "Invalid Code" response - not a big worry yet as I've seen that happen before right when a new item appears in the MP that coupons have gone out for - they usually have the codes working within a day or so. (as an example, the Gears of War pics that Gamestop gave out long before launch for showing up to a Friday night event and a few other things I can't recall atm all had the same problem)

So far from me and the few I know who have it pre-ordered there have been no problems. Probably just a bunch of folks trying to get on at 12:01 this morning when it wasn't up yet.

I was told that they had just received an email stating that the codes should be there by Monday morning, possibly Friday afternoon. The clerk told me that she'd call me when they arrived to ensure that I get one.

I've preordered Forza 2 and the preorder car code never arrived and GTA which was supposed to have a gamerpics code as well as one for 400MS points and neither of those turned up either. All my mails to customer services naturally go unanswered.

Preorders from a Game store however have always coughed up the goods.

My code didn't work in the first 5 minutes. So I hopped onto Microsoft's forums and saw there were other people with the problem. Then, on a whim, I tried the code one more time... and it worked! So they're activating the codes as we speak.

@elpierce: As I was told by the manager of the GS I go to, the cards were supposed to be there by the 11th. Nothing was said to the effect of "I can't give you one until then". Fact is I got mine on Friday.

And after you threatened to cancel your pre-order he didn't have to offer anything. The only reason the employee offered to call stores afterward is because he didn't want his pre-order quota to go down, because that looks bad for him and the store.

The big question is who were you dealing with at the store, a manager or a peon?

It sounds like Microsoft is dealing with their fair share of issues with the codes as it is. It's probably safe to assume the retailers are just as disorganized. So, patience is your best bet. It'll iron itself out, I'm sure.

I preordered on EBGames' website for in store pickup on Monday and received the code on Tuesday evening (I also opted to order the limited edition set.) Figured I'd give it a try at the time and it didn't work (not a surprise since the content hadn't been released yet.) Tried again once I arrived home from work today and had no problems. No one in their right mind should actually pay to be able to play these games, but it's not bad as a preorder bonus.

First off, realize, there are MANY other people expecting the same amount of time as you, and just 10-15 of those people and thats an entire shift, not to mention the other tasks that MUST be completed, and all the trades, etc. But ignoring all of that, for you to try to say it broke a street date?! Let me tell you first hand, the pub games code cards are *NOT* street dated. They wouldnt work at all until the game was available in the first place, after which they activated the codes. But never mind that, you are talking about "first buy, first get" rule... Do you not realize its not that way, and even if it were, were you the first to preorder the game at that store? Doubtful.. It is first come, first serve, which means if there are 100 preorders and they only get 50 cards, the first 50 people to come and claim the card, who have preorders, get the cards. Not to mention, its not like they wont get more, they generally get enough cards to cover preorders, staggered, until release. Just depends on the game, etc. Didnt notify? You might want to check your phone number is up to date on the same name/info that your Gamestop puts your preorder under, as ours called the customers to let them know it was in, it was the computer chick Aris I believe.. And lastly, consequences? .. Are you imposing jail time for your not getting immediate bonuses for a preorder, because they didnt have enough stock, and pretty much stating you come before everyone else, just like I orig. stated about people who act like this.

As far as the codes working, I didnt have any problems using my card today, and havent heard any complaints from customers yet at all.
