Prepare for some intersteller MMO goodness. NetDevil, which is actually a developer 10 minutes away from where I live, is working on Jumpgate Evolution. From this trailer we can see the game is coming together quite nicely.

Duuude, they even used the Homeworld teleport "brumm" sound. This is too similar for it to just be coincidental.
But hey, nothing wrong with Homeworld. Bring it on!

It's actually "interstellar," Mr. Barenblat.
Just a heads-up.
Also, awesome trailer.

@Lightbunny: Yeah, I was pretty psyched about EVE until I learned that it was all menu controlled. What's the point then?

@wandering_nomad:
Seconded. I've been waiting for another decent, joystick-enabled space combat game since I lost my copy of Privateer 2: The Darkening.
It'll be a nice change to play a space game that isn't RTS, or a spreadsheet simulator.

I like it.
Still excited about the beta.

@Gouki4u: Ambient, vaguely middle-eastern music has kind of become a staple of the space-opera genre.

Did anybody else notice the background music sounded really similar to that which plays during the opening of BSG?

well yeah, but for a moment it almost looked like a copy of the movie

meh, I was making videos with a bunch of space ships flying around a long time ago, I want to see some "game" dammit.

It doesn't seem too interesting. Maybe it's because I haven't played the other Jumpgate, I will give it a try if I get into beta though.

Oh my god, so pretty. The massive space battles look so Homeworld-esque. I might just have to buy this on day-one. I've been in need of a good space combat game for a while, one that actually requires a joystick.
@JakeDunn: You know that is a real kind of fish, right? Anglerfish.

BabylonGate 5?
The darkness / shadow parallel is just too close.
Looks nice, but so tired of the same explosion sounds we hear in every single trailer these days.

Uhm, so did they ask permission for using that finding nemo fish or what?

So is it 'interstellar greatness' or 'interstellar goodness'?
From what I've seen it looks like standard MMO type graphics. Er, change that to Warcraft 3 rather... and by that I mean 3d and a bit blocky... kind of unimpressive I think.
interstellar goodness it is.

Really looking forward to this game!
Unless it's subscription based, in which case I won't be playing.

I can not wait for this. So psyched. So pumped. I'm the juggernaut of love for this. The only MMO I can see myself playing at this point (especially if the whole joystick controls and real-time action really are incorporated fully).

@amazinglarry: It's an MMO that simulates epic battles, so the graphics being a bit under par is understandable. Wouldn't want the game to lag to 20fps in mid-battle due to all the explosions, debris, and spacecrafts. ;P
But at least the graphics looks a lot better than other classic space fighter sims like, say, Freespace and X-Wing/Tie Fighter/X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter.
Ever since, as wandering_nomad did, discovering that EVE was a menu-based space MMO, I've been much more interested in this game. And from the looks of the trailer, it's not disappointing me a bit. ;D

Looks great yes, but that doesn't make a great MMO. I hope they take it easy on the grinding, leveling and time intensive gameplay. MMOs need to value player skill gameplay more.
All you people wanting some intense joystick team based space action, the Free Allegiance community is still going strong (the mouse -> joystick emulator on it works wonderfully too, so joystick not required) It's a great example of how 100% skill based (no grind, no levels) multiplayer can be done and value all skill levels. There may be aces that can kill you fast, but new people are vital to the team doing non-combat necessary tasks.

With EVE being the only viable sci-fi MMO on the market, there is definitely room for some friendly competition. That being said, still playing FFXI, so they'll have to really impress me to get me to leave chocobos and moogles for battlestars and interstellar exploration.

I'm hoping... PRAYING... that this game is totally awesome. If the control scheme is just a bit snappier than Eve Online and the missions feel less Mad-Gabs fill-in-the-blank, I will love it.

@Atheist Jew: Ditto. I'm also really excited because this game will hopefully allow me to not have to associate with anybody else playing the game and enjoy it without too much socializing. I'm such a misanthrope.

HOMEWOOORRRLDDD...
I see that I wasn't the only one who thought that :p.
The ship trailings, the hyperspace, the storytelling...
The only thing I hope is that the developers will still use computer - controlled capital ships. It's okay for me to keep the players in smaller vessels, but I like the sound a capital ship makes when it explodes :(

Anyone else notice the very Battlestar Galactica-esque soundtrack. One of the few space related games to incorporate the flight style of the original jumpgate. I'm super excited for this game.

An MMO Space Flight Sim with actual joystick controls is what I've been wishing for ages. I was disappointed with Earth and Beyond and EVE Online because they were essentially Everquest in space. Gimme some good old fashioned wing commander action!
