Are You A Flash Game Developer? You Can Win Monies!
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 3:00 PM on August 23, 2008
Calling all flash game devs! E4.com is sponsoring the Golden Joysticks web games thingy and is looking for flash game entries from around the globe. Maybe your entry. Who knows? The game doesn't have to be developed specifically for the competition, but it has to be developed by you. Yes, you. The winner gets £5,000 and the first Flash Game Developer Golden Joystick. We're pretty sure that the Golden Joystick isn't real gold, but we haven't bitten it so we don't know. Though, £5,000? That's pretty good — especially with the crummy US exchange rate. Full details in the link below. Click on it.

@tdreher:
Monies, Monies, Monies, you really should get a trademark on the word if it is YOUR word.
If I recall, the flash site, Newgrounds hold monthly contests for money aswell which can be worth entering. Needless to say the prizes aren't as grand but money is money.

Aww... I would totally enter this if I made flash games, but no go. I've made GameMaker Games, Flash Videos, and TheSimsCarnival Games, but no Flash Games.
Though I don't know why they don't just give it to the Flow developers and declare the contest over.

I've actually been working on an entry for the past few weeks. I dunno if I can be arsed to finish it however because the competition will probably be all amazing.

I was just suggesting it to a friend who developed a pretty good flash. (Search for Amorphous+ on Kongregate or.. most other places I guess - yay plugs when I'm too ignorant on how to put in links).
The rules are very contradictory there. The FAQ says you can live anywhere, but special terms and conditions do say you have to be a UK resident. Wonder which it is?

Monsters' Den: Book of Dread wins anyway. If they apply. Or maybe Brotherhood of Battle. Or anything by biclops.
@ShiningIdeal: Just paste a direct url in, once you submit the comment it will make a shortcut automatically and even shorten the text to just the main url. So you might paste a really long url but it will just show up as a clickable shorturl[dot]com for example.

@Emiat: monies are monies.
;D
This contest should significantly increase the amount of value/replay/playability flash games have these days.

Ashcraft/ Kotaku it would kick tons of arse if links open in a NEW window on this site - is there a way we can set that up or is it strictly through y'all?

Eh, people are more likely to submit their existing games than make something new in a short time so I don't see how it can improve games. Flash games have enough value($0?)/replay/playability as they are, just look for the good ones, they've far advanced from offering pong clones you know. Unless you want some Final Fantasy-esque RPG or something, flash would be hardly the best platform to develop such games for, though I guess there are decent attempts around anyway.

There is another competition here for a free HD TV, ipod, or git certificates: [www.flypaper.com]
All you have to do is create a cool story with their program that does it all in flash for you. Its simple drag and drop with Flypaper.

Hey Some of you have noticed the contradictory message in the E4 Grand Master Flash competition terms and FAQ. All I can say is: humman errer. The competition is open to all, not just UK residents. I have removed the reference to the UK from the terms.
