New Expanded Lego Universe Behind the Scenes Video
Posted by Adam Barenblat at 5:00 AM on August 23, 2008
Last Month we got a sneak peak at how Lego Universe was coming along and today we get another ticket behind the scenes. In this expanded video we take a look at Net Devil's 2nd LUP or (LEGO Universe Partners) event where 49 adult fans got together and focused on making worlds in the game. I don't know about you guys, but that actually sounds like it would be a great experience. The game will be available for PC sometime next year.

@Maudite: That may be true, but I've found that kids who play kid-friendly games tend to be friendlier kids. It's the 10 year olds that pop up in M rated shooters and AoC that are often of the terrible variety.
That's not to say there aren't bad apples, but I never had to boot a kid from my Puzzle Pirates crew nor my FFXI (not entirely kid-friendly) linkshell, whereas in SOCOM it was all I could do to mute and vote off the little bastards.

@Toasticus:
those *are* little elves...
in elaborate, lego constructed human suits.

It could very well be ruined by the fact that it might be geared towards children.

On seeing the thumbnail for the video I was momentarily weirded out by the realization that Lego products are made by regular people. It's like some childhood preconception that Legos are made by little elves, or a Willy Wonka factory manned by child geniuses, has persisted into adulthood unchecked.

also, it's not that I think this'll be a bad game... I just don't think it'll be my cup of tea.
I think LBP will satisfy all my "create shit" desires.

Finally an MMO I know I don't want to buy!
I can only imagine the level of little anonymous "turds" that will be occupy this gameverse.
Have they mentioned whether or not they're going to incorporate any form of PVP?

Actually looks like an interesting game. May not be the most action-packed game of the decade, but the simplicity in it combined with connectivity makes it a game rarely seen in the market nowadays. Nice to have a break.

@Chewbenator: If they let you build Lego sets with other users then I'm in.

Is it like spore, with block people and no primordial soup? That could be pretty cool.

I'll have to keep an eye on this. I really want to see how much user control they will allow people with their user created content.

This is the stuff these people dreamed about as kids! I'm not even a Lego fan, but this sounds like the most fun job ever!

@Elly: That's a great point.
I look forward to this. I loved playing Blockland when that came out, and I'll love this even more. I'm not a fan of monthly subscription fees, but if this game has one I may pay up.

This seems like an awesome game, and one I've been waiting for.
I love LEGO, and hope this will come out well.

I like the one guy's job title: Certified LEGO Professional.
I'd imagine that's a good conversation starter...

Sounds similar to another game I like, The Sims 2, only with Lego block people. I miss playing with my Legos...

@Blah8: There is a whole community of them running around, they get all the cool prototype robitic stuff. There was a great read about them in I think "Wired" maybe a couple years ago. I would have been so jealous as a kid of this guy's hobby space. Floor to ceiling bins full of legos.

I use to run a mod for an unlicensed Lego-esque game, so I'm definitely down for this game!
