Slitherine Bringing Horrible Histories To The PC & Consoles
Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 5:20 AM on August 27, 2008
Horrible Histories is a series of best selling edumacational books that do their best to make learning history fun by focusing on all the most gory, blood-curdling details.
Historical strategy specialists Slitherine — who, confusingly, have nothing to do with that other best selling children's book series — have signed a deal with Scholastic books to create a series of games based on the books and bring them to the PC, Nintendo Wii and DS.
The books lean heavily towards British and European history (well, we have so much more of it) with titles like The Rotten Romans and The Terrible Tudors but former colonies haven't been forgotten with titles such as Revolting Revolutionaries and Westward Wow.

There were some games based on the horrible science books produced a few years back. They were given away on something like a cereal or in some newspaper. I got one for my daughter based around blood.I just had a look to see who it was that made it but couldn't find the disc. I do remember that it was a collection of very bad minigames that my daughter hated.

I have 13 of those books, they were the only books that I wanted to read when I was younger :D...Now I have to go read the boring "Os Maias" from Eça de Queiroz...I don't expect any of you to know what I'm talking about --'.

Ah the books were awesome. I wonder what on earth they're going to do with this? I presume some kind of interactive education game, could make history fun for kids.

I love these Horrible histories books... My youngest brother has few himself.
I remember when I felt warm and fuzzy reading about the Rotten Romans when I was a wee lad.

These things got me into History at age 8. I achieved an A in A-Level history 2 weeks ago and got into Uni because of it. These books have my full respect and praise.

@Midnightchronicles: pretentious, much? Other people do know famous Portuguese novels.
These books and the horrible science books are the only reason I still read today; I'd like to see how they pull the game off without getting 'Wako Jacko Thompson' all hot and bothered though.

These books were awesome, in part precisely because they weren't afraid to get into the grisly details.

Never read the books, but I remember the cartoon being one of the funniest kids shows I've seen in years. Admittedly, that's not difficult to achieve these days, but still.
You just can't argue with a cartoon where the male lead is voiced by Billy West.
