Rare - No Viva Piñata DLC, Maybe New Banjo Kazooie?
Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 6:30 AM on August 30, 2008
Viva Piñata fans hoping to get an extra dose of paper animal wrangling after VP: Trouble In Paradise will be disappointed, according to a recent web chat with the developers.
"We don't have any plans for DLC. As far as the team is concerned we are taking a break from VP for a while to make something new. But things change quickly in the software industry so next week it may be a completely different story"
But what could this new game be? I spoke to Rare's Community Manager George Kelion, who said that the team were keen on a fresh challenge after spending so long cooped up with just sentient Piñatas for company.
"With VP2 out the door and Banjo in its vinegar strokes, we're focusing on getting the Avatars all finished and done for the New Xbox Experience", said Kelion, "After that, it'll most likely be a mix of new projects and hopefully a Banjo sequel.. maybe? Fingers crossed, anyway!"

I love Viva Pinata. Still not sure about Banjo, but if I can get the code to download the full original Banjo game on XBLA by only putting 5 bucks down and not picking up Nuts and Bolts I may do that because I want to see how it handles on the 360 controller and if it has aged as bad as I anticipate it has since the N64 days.

.....did he just use the phrase vinegar strokes when talking about a bear in blue pants and a loudmouth bird?.....

Oh... we just need more rare games in General.
I've been chomping at the ruddy bit for years for them. I need my regular N64-style fix for frigs sake.
YES to a new decent platformer mascot. Yes to another perfect dark (N64 style). Couldn't really give a rats ass about another killer instinct or battletoads. There were better games in their genre.

@kylenalepa: So does this mean a sequel to a spin-off?

I could die a happy man if Rare would make another Blast Corps. That is seriously one of the most underrated games of all time.
Also, if Rare is going through their back catalog for ideas, let's pray they don't make a sequel to Taboo: The Sixth Sense... [www.seanbaby.com]

Despite my previous comment, I'd also like to back development of a Kameo sequel.
The Kameo soundtrack still ranks as one of the best I've heard and the composer is a genuinely nice chap, so I want him to get more work!

@Ryumeka: Meh, at this point, I'm considering Nuts and Bolts to be a spin-off from the real Banjo Kazooie series. Doesn't necessarily mean that it will suck (although I'm not particularly optimistic), just that its gameplay seems to be fundamentally different from that of the previous two games in the series.
Of course, I'd take a Kameo sequel as well.

I will wait to play the new Banjo before I clamor for a sequel to it, but I am hopeful that Nuts and Bolts will be awesome and that it will warrant another entry in the series afterward.
I am dying for a good mascot platformer on my 360.

A Banjo sequel to a game which is the third in a series? Is that proper wording?
Anyway, I do hope they take Banjo back to his roots. Or at least, bring powers back.

Kameo sequel plz. There's enough sitting on the cutting room floor from its development hell to make a new game right now

As much as I love Rare's more family-centric games, it must be said:
RARE! MAKE A REALISTIC FPS AGAIN!
We need a fully fledged, fully realised sequel to Perfect Dark. Without heavy reliance on a cartoonified art direction.

Not surprising, but disappointing. Viva Piñata's only DLC was unlock codes. Hopefully the framework is there if they have a change of heart.

I hope the next title still has vehicles in it just less of them. A nice mix of vehicle puzzles would be great but basing the entire game around it might not pay off.
Majority should be on foot IMO
Also a new Killer Instinct, Battletoads, or PDZ sequel would be awesome.

Considering how Rare is internally viewing Banjo in these expressions, I got a funny feeling that it truly IS going to be a grand ole time with a controller. I'm still excited.

@Infil:
Oh I'm sure it looks great, I was talking about what actually matters in the aging process, the gameplay. At the time it was a lot of fun because of the clever writing, diverse worlds, and numerous things to do, but by today's platforming standards, from what I recall, it was nothing more than a huge collection, usually in 100's in each level, fest and that's something a ton of modern platformers draw criticism for. I'm wondering if it was just the times that made the game compelling or if, in a world of superior 3-D platformers, Rare knew something about collection quests that modern developers seem to have forgotten.

@Ryumeka: You got me there. Probably depends on the sales of Nuts and Bolts, although if that flops and the release of Banjo Kazooie on XBLA is a hit, I'd expect a sequel would return to the traditional platforming gameplay.
