Bomberman Blast Blows Up Your Miis Online
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:40 AM on August 27, 2008
Hudson has just officially announced Bomberman Blast, an all-new installment of the classic franchise created exclusively for Nintendo's WiiWare line that not only allows you to compete online along with seven other players - it allows *you* to compete online. The game will allow you to bring your own Miis into the action, letting you watch tiny superdeformed versions of yourself being immolated by explosives. Joy!
"The Bomberman franchise is one of Hudson Entertainment's most popular," said Sabine Duvall, Vice President of Product Development at Hudson Entertainment. "We're driven by the support of the fans and strive to provide unique new gameplay features with each new Bomberman title to please the longtime fans, as well as make the game accessible to newcomers."
The game will support leaderboards as well as online Bomberman tournaments, including one that will kick off with the launch of the game. When is the game launching? *scans press release, finds nothing* Eventually.
Bomberman Returns For Digital Download on the Wii
REDWOOD CITY, CA - August 26, 2008 - Hudson Entertainment, the North
American publishing arm for HUDSON SOFT, today announced that they are releasing Bomberman Blast, an all-new Bomberman for digital download for WiiWare on the Wii. Retaining the classic features Bomberman fans have come to love such as online multiplayer battles and numerous arenas, Bomberman Blast also incorporates new gameplay elements, including the use of Mii support and 8-person online multiplayer - the first time for Bomberman on Wii!"The Bomberman franchise is one of Hudson Entertainment's most popular," said Sabine Duvall, Vice President of Product Development at Hudson Entertainment. "We're driven by the support of the fans and strive to provide unique new gameplay features with each new Bomberman title to please the longtime fans, as well as make the game accessible to newcomers."
Fans of the popular series will be able to compete either solo or as part of a team against the best Bomberman players worldwide, as Bomberman Blast delivers 8-player multiplayer battles online. By using their Miis, gamers will have the opportunity to definitively prove who has the best Mii by sending them into a Bomberman Blast arena, then blowing away the competition! Now who has the best Mii?
Bomberman Blast is the perfect party game, allowing players from around the world to join in on the fun. Up to four players on the same Wii can hop online. Even more, an online leaderboard shows just how good you are! Bomberman Blast is exactly what players would expect from a Bomberman game, with more ammunition, more online battles, and now, the support of Miis!
With the release of Bomberman Blast on WiiWare, Hudson Entertainment will offer several online tournaments, including one that coincides with the game's launch. For more information on the upcoming tournaments and to register, players can visit www.Hudsonentertainment.com.
Bomberman Blast is rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

@dae_giovanni: its no typo. with dr. mario rx having online and tetris having online when its released, hudson would have to be stupid to not add online play, considering the ds bomberman games had online play.

Funny that Nintendo is more liberal with their avatars than Microsoft.

Effing excellent! Good job, Nintendo--way to get over yourselves, a bit! Bomberman is a perfect candidate both for Mii integration and WiiWare! I will definitly be buying this game. The fact that it includes online play.... well.... well, i still have to wonder if it's a typo...
I could care less about Mii integration, but it is indeed a good fit. I think Nintendo should reverse course and treat Miis like Mr. Bill dolls-- any chance they get, they should have them blowing up and dying in a multitude of other horrible ways...
Now all we need is a release date.

Fuck YEAH! Why no Bomberman for the PSN yet, though?

@saigumi: I think you're thinking about Microsoft's Avatars. I don't think we know Nintendo's developer restictions for Miis.

Why can't they do 8 player local play with GCN controllers? =( Guess I'll stick to Bomberman '93 on Virtual Console.

Wait a minute. Wasn't there a press release or something a few months back that said Nintendo wouldn't allow Mii's to be killed or injured?
I guess it is a little lax because you could hit their Kart with a koopa shell, but flaming them with a bomb seems kind of exactly what they said they weren't going to allow.
Or did they mean more of a thing like no allowing a Mii in Soul Calibur?

If there ever was a game to take advantage of the supertoony Mii avatar system, it's the artistic style that is bomberman.

This looks cool. I have been interested in newer Bomberman games but I wouldn't want to pay more than $10 for one. If this thing is $10 - $12 it is a buy.

I love Bomberman, but why Mii integration? Does it improve gameplay? The only time I actually thought Mii integration was cool was Wii Fit, and that's because I would always pass my girlfriend while jogging.

@Dajmin:
Low-poly Miis will look out of place next to the low-poly Bomberman models? I think not, sir.
I beieve they're actually a pretty good addition to the game. Optional, not really out of place. It'll still be Bomberman at its heart, and that's what matters. I am so excited. I haven't bought a Virtual Console/WiiWare game in some time, but this looks like a must-buy.

@Dajmin:
Then don't use them. See the Pic? You can use a Bomberman.
I feel they haven't been tacked on enough. Where's my Miitroid Prime Arena? Where's my Medal of Miinor? How about Killer Instinct Miillenium?

Sounds like another decent WiiWare title then. Just a shame they had to go down the "let's add the Miis into anything we can" router, making it less Bomberman and more BomberMii, which I could've lived without because yet again the low-poly Miis will look totally out of place just like they do in every other game that tacks them on for no reason.

This.. this is going to RULE.
Old school bonberman multiplayer is probably the DS game my mates and I play most after MarioKart. The first DS release was crap, but the second was most excellent. It's pure, unadulterated mayhem, and thus incredible fun.

@Fryfat2: I was just gonna say that, way to one up the mii60's Nintendo... now hopefully we'll see some avatar integration with Gears of War 2.
seriously i don't see the issue with Mii or avator integration with teen+ games, just make them fall apart like lego's and it would be hilarious and only semi violent, cause you can say "Hey they are made out of plastic, get 'em" Though i suppose if you placed your ex-wife's avatar in GTA IV as a random civilian and then proceeded to assassinate her in different, gruesome ways and post the Video on youtube it could lead to some negative publicity. OK now i see the issue.

When Wii came out, I had this idea that these guys would get used in ALL sorts of games... When it ended up being, like, 3 games, I was really disappointed.
This looks really cool. I hope something similar happens with the Home avatars on PS3 (and maybe Sackboy, too)

So . . . Since Nintendo thought of the term "mii" first, should Microsoft mii's be called "Micro Mii's?" Hmm?

Okay, perhaps my anger was misdirected in this case (I have so much of it and sometimes it just overflows). The Mii polycount looks to be pretty similar to the actual Bomberman characters, so it's not quite as out of place here.
It was Mario Kart that really made me boggle. Not that I can say I'm shocked Ninty wanted to use 'em.
But either way I won't be getting this since I already have Bomberman Live and much prefer the unlockable outfits there to a pseudo-me :)

@bobtheduck:
It's more then 3 games.
Wii Sports.
Wii Play.
Wii Fit.
Wii Music.
Dr Mario RX.
Wii Sports Resort.
Mario Kart Wii.
Bomberman Blast.
They have a pretty damned good use rate for a avatar system that's not always easy to work into games. And more games using them coming.
@Dreamwriter:Sez you. I enjoy my Strikers, Brawl, Kart, Chocobo's Dungeon and Dr Mario just fine without it.
@Dajmin:As already noted, Bombermen are not high poly models. What is your issue?
And good, this is a no-brainer for Mii includsion.

Hudson seems to be doing well with Nintendo's online services. Hope they keep it up!

@Foxstar Sixtail:
Not to mention games like Galaxy and Big brain academy that use them to show who used what game save. That's a usueful little feature, just look at the giant floating Mii head to see the game you want.
I like mii's anybody who has played with people who don't play very often and are constantly asking so which one am I should appreciate them. "No dad you are the teeny tiny little Mii Hitler driving the pram!",really whats not to like about that sentence?
Having had a house full of people swapping round playing 5 player Bomberman 93 on the VC this might be an instant buy for me and my friends especially as we all live across the globe now.

Hey I've heard that this Hudson company you speak have this special room called a press office where you can ask them questions about things not on press releases!!!
I spoke to one of these *does Dr Evil* "public relations managers" once and they told me they actually get paid to relay information over the phone!!!
Seriously!

I just hope they have a lot of power-ups in this version. I was super excited for online Bomberman on the DS and then I found out they used the "Battle Pack" system. The goal was good (to allow for compatibility with future games), but it sucked that they limited the items. You really only got the basic items - for example, there was no detonator... that's sacrilegious.

@saigumi: I believe you confusing Microsoft's Avatar Policy with Nintendo's Mii's. Besides, who really cares if your Mii gets a little crispy?
It sounds promising, but I'd like to see the price tag on this before I whip out my WiiWallet. I'll likely buy the game just for the multiplayer support, but if it's over 1000 pts... I might bump it down my game list.
