Death Tank To Roll On Xbox Live Arcade!
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:00 PM on August 13, 2008
Germany's rating board, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, may have let an Xbox Live Arcade announcement out of the bag a bit early, as it has rated Death Tank for the Xbox 360. Should you have gone without a Sega Saturn and copies of either Powerslave or Duke Nukem 3D, Death Tank is a 2D multiplayer tank shooter with a deforming landscape, similar to the Worms series, but with more tanks and more death.
The game has yet to be officially confirmed or announced, but with the Leipzig Games Convention right around the corner, we're hoping to get our hands on a playable version very, very soon.
OH #%!& SON, IT'S 'DEATH TANK' FOR XBOX LIVE ARCADE [GamerBytes]

Like Scorched Earth... but its not turn based. Weapons take a bit to charge, then FIRE! The ultimate party game and best way to make a room of friends go mental. Winners keep winning, losers feel like they're being picked on even when they're not and throw the controller across the room. i have friends that have sworn off this game forever. AWESOME!

Hey, I've got a Death Tank inspired name! I've been going by "DeathTankZwei" on the internet for years now. Recently, my GameFAQs account by that name even got banned. :/
I've been playing forever and spreading the word of this game for as long as I can remember. I've got Powerslave and Duke Nukem 3D on my Saturn, so I've played both Death Tanks. I even played Asheron's Call for a time solely to see the Death Tank inspired enemies.
...and in case you want to know, I am a ninja with jumpjet and hovercoil, and that blue tank in the sky is the azure bane of me not holding back. XD
I also like to say "I serve... A higher authority..." right before I obliterate somebody with a laser. I liked SMRPG. ;)
So, I'm totally psyched about the game that has, along with NiGHTS and several others, managed to keep my Sega Saturn on the forefront of my gaming activities for roughly the last decade, returning for XBLA.
I don't have an XBox 360 yet, and I definitely have wanted one, but this is the final nail in the coffin for me. Microsoft officially wins this generation, game set and match. XD

Yeah, it sounds a hell of a lot like Scorched Earth ("the mother of all video games").

Man, this takes a little of the sting away from having a Saturn copy of Duke Nukem 3D shipped to me last week, only to find out that the manufacturer FORGOT TO PUT THE DISC IN THE GODDAMN CASE!!
Still, that's really cool.

So it's Scorched Earth Redux?
Question to those who may be more knowledgeable: what separates Death Tank from the likes of Scorched Earth and all its tank-based knockoffs?

Essentially, you could get this on the Saturn as I recall, one of two ways...blow up all the toilets in Duke Nukem 3D or have a save from another Lobotomy release (Quake) on your Saturn (which is how I have it). either way, it is good fun.

I usually don't yell out loud FUCKYEAH at 5 in the morning, but this game is the most awesome easter egg ever, I loved me some powerslave but when me and my brother discovered this one, we played it until no end!

Holy foook!
This is the best news I have ever heard. Even a few weeks ago I was trying to explain the beauty of this game to folk and how it'd make the best Xbox Live Arcade game.

It is hard to explain the amazing thing that is this game. This, if just even an exact copy of the Saturn version will go down a storm.
SO happy right now! :)

This is quite awesome. I was still playing this game as little as two years ago; this and Saturn Bomberman was one of the cornerstones of many game nights with my friends. Hopefully it's got online multiplayer for 7 player action.

For those in the know, it was/is the best multiplayer game for the Saturn. It's Scorched Earth only in real time (not turn based) and with up to 7 players (on the Saturn version, no idea about the XBLA version) Graphics looked like crap compared to well, anything after Atari 2600 graphics for the most part, but the fun factor was beyond almost anything. Alliances would form and then crumble as your former ally nukes you in to particles, and you return the favour as your friends try and toast you. I just recently hosted a Death Tank marathon. People were astounded as I dusted off the ol' Saturn and hooked up 6 controllers to the multitap.
Groovy!

yay - That saves me having to get off my arse and finish my version :-)
Basically the key feature of Death Tank over other tank games was that it was realtime rather than turnbased, which ups the mayhem somewhat!
(Assuming I won't get kicked for blatant advertising, google "Hell Tank" to find my incomplete version, which plays pretty similar to the original)

@benjymous:
It was you that did Hell Tank!?! And didn't finish it.. Hang your head in shame.. Man, I've had your website bookmarked for years...
Anyway, for those who've never played Deathtank and keep saying "is it a scorched earth clone" - NO, Scorched earth is absolute tosh compared to DT. Forget every other bomb-lobbing game on the planet, this is the best.
I rate it next to some of the all time greatest games, and we still play it regularly in the office.
I hope ezra is doing it... (Crosses fingers) and they put a "remix" and "original" mode like in all the other games.

My brothers a little older than me, and prefers the simpler Atari type games. I've been with him when he's gone to a Gamestop and asked "got any tank games?". For him, this console war will be won with the tank game, so I guess the 360 will be getting the gold.
And as for me...Hell yeah, all consoles need a friggin' tank game.

I've got fond memories of all-night death tank sessions with mates. Not sure if it'd be quite as enjoyable when played over the internet with strangers, but I'd like to give it a try!

I loved Scorched Tanks on the Amiga, this should fill the gap nicely! Thanks for cheering me up a bit after some beeping idiot nearly went in the side of my car when I was already in the middle of the roundabout during the trip home from work (I've been swearing for the last 20 minutes).

@Jazhuis:
That is a strong claim but it is completely justified. I've played both for hours on end and Death Tank trumps Scorched Earth hands down. The frantic nature of play when you get 8 players into the same round is completely nuts. As a couch game it is rivaled only by Bomberman. Being able to play Death Tank online can only make it better.

Hey guys...I wrote and sang the theme song with Madcap as well as did the load and end game artwork. I know all my old Lobotomy homies will be playing. It is great to hear how many people liked the game after all these years. Thanks to all of you. Troy Jacobson

I love these old 2D artillery games but if you want to play a full 3D realtime version play "Shelled! Online". It has 20 weapons that change the terrain, 8 player online combat with free multiplayer servers, 6 game modes, a custom create-a-tank maker with 30 tank parts, and even a full single player campaign - for an artillery game! Angle and shot power, baby. :) Oh yeah, and it works with an XB360 controller. You can play it now: download the free 30mb PC version at [www.redthumbgames.com] or check out pics and video there. If you love artillery games you should check out "Shelled! Online" in my opinion it kicks these turn-based and 2D versions asses.

Best multi-player game ever! I can't count the number of rounds I have played on my Saturn. One question for fellow players: How many rounds did you usually play in a typical game? My fellow Deathtankers and I settled on 25 for some reason. Just curious. Can't wait for the XBLA version!!!

Oh, redtank commented above me, hehe. He's the one that usually organizes the games. So ... yeah, I usually play 25 rounds too, lol.
He is pretty much the hardcorest Deathtank fan since his username is redtank. Anybody else have a Deathtank inspired name? Didn't think so.
