Here we are, the first trailer for the latest version of EA's footballing juggernaut, FIFA 09. Hope it's not based off the in-game models and engine, because if the ball moves around in the air like that while you're playing, you'll get a better game of football playing NHL 09.
@latinogamer
Not all teams have 2 shirt sponsers.
E.G. Chelsea have shirt deals with adidas and samsung whereas AC Milan have a shirt deal only with adidas so they just have the adidas logo in the top corner of their jersey.

@Fabrice: Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought that. And here I was, thinking I had missed something since it's damn near 5 in the morning......
Not sure what's wrong with the trailer, footballs have been floaty for quite some time now.

@Playstation: If they only knew the definition of "current-gen". PES has of the tightest controls, infinite replay value , entertaining gameplay that is bogged by POS07-08 graphics and 28.8kbaud online play
@Bergerac: That's Chelsea's goalkeeper. He got kneed in the head a while back and broke his skull. Now he has to wear that protective head gear. Yeah, it sucks, but he's a very good goalkeeper.

What's with the goalie's headgear?
All this talk of floating makes me want a kickabout game with a penny floater. LOL That would be incredible. Imagine the physics improbabilities.

this was absolutely brilliant.
The best footie game trailer ever.
Of course the graphics have been enhance, but it's the new features in the trailer that get me excited about the game (pirlo doing a tunnel, the benzema freekick with 3 players...).
Minor adittions, major improvements.

Hmm dunno it looked pretty good but im looking forward to the demo. I hope it uses euro 2008 as a base and just tweaks it to improve things like the goalie ai etc. This is the first year that im genuinely thinking im more likely to buy fifa than pro evo, crazy.

hey i'm sure pc will get again out dated ps2 grafics like fifa 08 because our pcs are sooooo slow they can't take xbox 360 grafics. haha. europe is football world and europe has enough good pcs, not like US.
Hope the Wii version copies PES08's control scheme. That was truly awesome.

@Himiko: FIFA 09 is getting a graphical upgrade on the PC this year.
From EA's website:
"Leading Edge Visual Quality - FIFA 09 on PC now delivers the jump in quality demanded by PC gamers around the world. The latest shader and visual techniques leverage hi-spec graphics cards for a visually spectacular recreation of the beautiful game."
The ball in the game has gotten a hell of a lot more floaty, a lot of players have complained about it, particularly goalkeepers. Fifa was strides above PES this year, so we'll see how they both turn out.
Right, when I see in-game footage of people being able to string together passes like that those one two's between Fabregas and the other player (couldn't recognize him) or strikers go after rebounds and volley like Rooney did.
THEN I will be impressed. Oh and if tackling happens as sensibly as the Roma/Juve tackle and the computer doesn't just whisk away the ball using psychic power as on World Class in 2008.
2007 wasn't too bad but 08? Step in the wrong direction (I'm talking about the PC version btw)
from what i've heard (ign wii podcast) the control scheme is PES-lite control. meaning you can have pinpoint passing but you can't send your teammates on runs. also defensively you can control a player unlike PES, which should be definitely easier to pick up.
i hope they'll change that you can send your own players on runs like PES.

yea, i've never been a fan of PES, but fifa 08 wasn't all too good in my opinion, i'm just hoping this game is better (couldnt be any worse). but never in a million years would i stoop down and buy pes..i like realism..and not having licensed teams or players or sponsors, makes it that much less fun.

Fifa vs PES. I chose the latter. It's almost like an irreversible choice. I'll keep buying PES games no matter how bad they get, and not buy any FIFA games no matter how good they get. Is there something wrong with me or do others feel the same way?
Oh my god...in that short clip there's at least 5 product placements. Samsung, tmobile, nike, adidas, aig, novotel. I've never bought a soccer game before, I'm not about to start now with all that blatent advertising.
I used to only play PES and I switched to FIFA 08 because it is a much superior game. I'll still buy both, but FIFA is leagues ahead of PES in my opinion.

I'm hoping for FIFA 09 to be different, or better rather, from FIFA 08 (and EURO for that matter). It sure better be. I found that the controlled for FIFA 08 were slightly similar to a truck. I'm sure there will be improvement for this one. Picking it up for sure though.
so i'm assuming you've never watched ANY sports game before...
advertisements left and right with stuff like "jack at the half" and the whole "Brought to you by" thing. Sports have always incorporated advertising, taking it out of a videogame would only lead to unrealistic gameplay.

It was Real Madrid and AC Milan who both have Bwin.com as their sponsor. Bwin is an online casino so I'm guessing that's why it was pulled in the ad. In FIFA 08 they didn't have the sponsor on the team selection screen but it was on the shirts in game.
