Fallout 3 is coming to the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 28 in North America and three days later in Europe, Bethesda announced today.
"We are very excited to let gamers get their hands on Fallout 3, the latest chapter in this beloved and highly acclaimed franchise," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. "To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year."
Colour me freaking excited.

With all of these AAA titles hitting before Xmas I wonder how many of them will get lost in the shuffle?
Personally, I'm looking at this and Little Big Planet - the others will probably have to wait awhile.

I still can't believe Bioshock isn't a reduced price release with better games like this -- now confirmed -- launch at the same time as the port. Don't forget about November with VotB, LBP, R2, etc. I'm dropping my Bioshock PS3 sales predictions a little more. See anything can be made into a game! :D

Just bought Oblivion (greatest hits) for my 40 GB PS3 and the game itself feels with a lot of hiccups / slowdown / chugging-while-loading-areas. Don't get me wrong, it looks way better than in my crappy PC but I hoped for something better.
I hope Fallout don't do this as well.

I've already pre-ordered it and thought it was coming out early October. Most british retailers had it down for either the 3rd or the 10th, so I presumed that was the official date.

And that's just for the PS3. Imagine how it is for people that own more than one console. Insanity. Hopefully some publishers move their game into early next year to take advantage of essentially being alone in the spotlight. Like Mirror's Edge, Dead Space and Call of Duty, for example.

if you have a PC capable of playing fallout, get that version!
If Oblivion showed us anything, its that the best stuff to appear in these games is the user generated content! Good luck getting any of that on the console versions...

Judging from the comments. Most, if not all the people buying games are a bit perplexed with the holiday release schedule. I admit they really should space it out. But what can we do? Holiday money is big business. I do hope none of the good ones gets overlooked.
Still, wouldn't triple A games get a bigger slice of the pie say if they release it in May or February? Sure the Holiday money would've already been spent but you're the lone attractive girl in a sea of um locker socks.

i'll be far too busy with LBP, Resistance 2, and Socom to really invest proper time into it anyways.

Man, I hope this game is fun. I'm tempering my expectations, here. I doubt it will live up to the nostalgia factor of Fallout 2, a game I STILL go back and replay on a regular basis.
But if it's just FUN and GOOD, I will be more than pleased. It doesn't have to be perfect, and epic, and a 10. I will accept an 8... even a high 7. (so long as that isn't like the "Alone in the Dark" 7... where the game really got an extra two or three points for effort)

I hate whoever decide to put all these AAA games so close to one another. $10 says that at least one of these games will be delayed.
Anyway, I'm excited for this game, but like others have said, it's not necessarily a purchase that you need to make as soon as the game comes out to fully enjoy it because it's an offline RPG/Shooter. I mean, I just bought Oblivion In May or June, and it's still fine (not going to state my opinion on the game here, but the expereience isn't lessened by buying later.)
Even without owning a PS3, I must say that I don't know what I am going to do this fall. There are so many good games coming out, it's crazy.
Gears of War 2 is a must-purchase for sure.
After that there is Fable 2, Fallout 3 as my B tier (not as in B games, but in order of purchasing.)
Then Star Wars: TFU and Left 4 Dead as my C tier.
Not to mention I still haven't had the cash to purchase GTA IV.
Also, two words: Castle Crashers.

There are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many games coming out this fall. Damn does look like I will have much time to enjoy Fable 2 before getting lost in this game. Oh well I guess that is what the nearly new release free summer is for. Number 1 and 2 on my list this fall released a week apart and during a time when I will probably be working 60 hours a week :(

I was really excited about this game but those recently leaked screenshots have made me a little leery. I was hoping they'd moved away from that ropey Oblivion dialogue but no, that'd be asking too much. Fallout 3 is set in a post-apocalyptic future yet people are still spouting pleasantries like they're some slack-jawed country-troll mage who sells wolf-pelt at the side of the cobblestone highway.
I want Mad Max. I want Fist of the North Star. Not Oblivion with collapsed suburban ruins and old men in cowboy hats.

@exion:
There's nothing stopping them from making the game compatible with user generated content for consoles as well. It worked for Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3.

As much as Im overexcited about this game..
Im just super-geek-in-love with fact that I will have that vault13 bobble-head, ehh.. bobbing, abit earlier then very much anticipated!
Ill flick it with my finger and there will be much glee, and confused looks from my girlfriend.
I feel a "explain love of said game is not crazy, to GF" project comming on...

I just signed up for a World of Warcraft subscription, but I know that I will be canceling as soon as this game hits my doorstep. Yeah, I splurged and got the super dork Survival Edition of Fallout 3. I don't care what anyone says about any thing, this game is going to kick ass! I played the originals as well and loved them but I am even more excited for this game than I was for GTA4.

As somebody that doesn't own nor have any desire to purchase a 360 or PS3, it's refreshing to see a developer that doesn't necessarily buy into the "piracy is killing computer games forever! Viva la console revolucion!" mentality. Nothing against consoles, mind you, they just aren't my thing these last few years.
Further, it will be interesting to see a new take on the franchise from a respected developer like Bethesda. The Black Isle folks left an indelible mark on the PC RPG community with Fallout and Baldur's Gate, and they possessed a subtle, charming razor wit. I think all the snarling and gnashing of teeth isn't necessarily for the gameplay Fallout provided in its first two iterations, although that was definitely superb and revolutionary, but for the ambiance, interaction and experience the game created. If Bethesda can replicate that experience they'll have a feather in their collective cap for certain.
